Hardik Pandya caught the attention of the selectors by playing for Mumbai in the IPL. After many years, it was thought that Team India had acquired a fast bowling all-rounder in the form of Kapil Dev. Likewise, in 2016, Pandya made his debut in T20 and ODI cricket.

Pandya's career has not been that great, despite playing heroic innings. He had a mediocre performance until 2018. Due to his back injury and lack of form, he lost his spot in the team.

In January 2019, Hardik was embroiled in controversy. He faced suspension from the BCCI for making inappropriate comments on women on the Koffee with Karan show. Apologized but the board was not sympathetic. BCCI lifted the suspension after an internal discussion.
