Devara’s ‘First Song’, Garners Mixed Feedback from Fans and Critics

    May 21, 2024

The pan-Indian movie ‘Devara,’ starring NTR and directed by Koratala Siva, features Bollywood star Janhvi Kapoor alongside Tarak. Set against a coastal backdrop, the film is being produced in two segments. The first segment is scheduled for release on October 10. In honor of Tarak’s birthday on May 20, the film’s team released its first song yesterday. Presently, the song is eliciting mixed reactions; while some are appreciating it, others are voicing their discontent on social media.

    The Fear Song

The film’s team released the first song titled ‘Fear Song’ on Sunday evening (May 19). This lyrical video was published on YouTube in multiple languages including Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Hindi, and Malayalam. The lyrics for the Telugu version were written by Ramajogayya Sastry, with music composed and sung by Anirudh. As of now, the song has achieved 4.7 million views within the first 20 hours in its Telugu version and is also gaining substantial appreciation in other languages.

    Anirudh’s Elevations

While NTR’s fans were thrilled with the first song from ‘Devara’, other music enthusiasts and netizens have mixed feelings. They are questioning Anirudh’s specific contributions to NTR’s birthday song, pointing out that Anirudh appears more prominent than Tarak himself. There are critiques that the tune was merely repurposed from the title track of the film ‘Vikram’ for ‘Devara’. Comments have been made that the music overwhelmed the lyrics to the extent that only the phrase ‘Devara mungita nuvventha’ was distinctly audible. Following the release of the song, some viewers have expressed that their expectations for the film ‘Devara’ have lessened.

    Is the Song a Copy?

After listening to the ‘Fear Song’ from ‘Devara’, some netizens have noted its similarity to tracks from previous films. Particularly, the Tamil audience has pointed out online that the song bears a resemblance to the ‘Badass’ song from the movie ‘Leo’. With the song also released in Tamil, there are circulating posts accusing music director Anirudh of copying once again.

    NTR’s Role in Devara

With the successful NTR and Koratala Siva pairing from ‘Janatha Garage‘, expectations for ‘Devara’ are high. In this film, Tarak portrays a leader addressing the challenges faced by a coastal community. The previews released thus far indicate that director Koratala is poised to enhance NTR’s heroic stature to new heights. Meanwhile, Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan is cast in a formidable villain role, promising a strong on-screen confrontation with NTR.
