On August 15, marking Independence Day, blockbuster films hit the screens. ‘Double Ismart’ by the Ram-Puri combo and ‘Mr. Bachchan’ by the Ravi Teja-Harish Shankar team greeted the audiences. Alongside them, Tamil star Vikram’s ‘Thangalan’ and NTR’s brother-in-law Narne Nithiin’s ‘Aay’ also made their presence felt in theaters. While the films starring Ravi Teja and Ram received mixed responses, Vikram’s and Narne Nithiin’s movies garnered positive talk. But which film took the lead in day one collections? Which movie raked in the highest earnings? Let’s find out in this report.
Double Ismart’s Collections!
‘Double Ismart,’ directed by Puri Jagannadh and starring Ram Pothineni, garnered a divided response but still managed to pull in impressive numbers. The film reportedly earned Rs. 12.45 crores (GROSS) worldwide on its opening day, as officially announced by the makers. They even released a special poster to mark the occasion. In the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana alone, the film collected over Rs. 8.35 crores, as reported by trade circles, with an additional Rs. 4 crores coming from the rest of India and overseas. With the long weekend, there’s potential for further increase in its collections.
Mr. Bachchan’s Scenario!
‘Mr. Bachchan,’ the third collaboration between Mass Maharaja Ravi Teja and creative director Harish Shankar, carried high expectations until its release on Thursday, August 15, but received mixed reviews. Nevertheless, it managed to gross Rs. 5.3 crores worldwide on its first day, with Rs. 1.8 crores coming from the premiere shows held on August 14, as stated by trade sources. The film faced significant trolling right from the first show, which reportedly affected its collections. However, given the long weekend, recovery isn’t ruled out. Bhagyashri Borse starred alongside Ravi Teja, marking her debut in the Telugu film industry with this movie.
Thangalaan Tops!
‘Thangalaan,’ starring Tamil star hero Vikram, topped the release day earnings among all the films, collecting a massive Rs. 26.44 crores (GROSS) worldwide, as officially declared by the producers. The film has been especially well-received even without a North Indian release yet, drawing universal acclaim. It is set to release in the North on the 30th of this month. ‘Thangalaan,’ performing well in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam, is expected to achieve significant box office numbers by the end of this weekend, with Vikram’s performance being widely praised.
Aay’s Good Collections!
‘Aay,’ the second film by NTR’s brother-in-law Narne Nithiin following the success of ‘Mad,’ captivated audiences again with its village backdrop love entertainer. The film brought in positive talk on its first day, with trade circles estimating that it grossed Rs. 2 crores. Made on a budget of Rs. 8 crores, the film’s appealing opening day collections have left the film unit in high spirits, anticipating profits by the end of the weekend.
