The police investigation revealed that the accused, Aftab Amin Poonawalla, and the victim, Shraddha Walker, met through the online dating app "Bumble." They have been in a relationship since 2018.
As the elders didn’t accept their relationship, Aftab and Shraddha moved to Delhi and started living together.
Shraddha’s friends informed her parents as she had not been answering their calls since May. Then her parents lodged a complaint with the Delhi Police when they found out that Shraddha’s apartment was locked.
Aftab confessed to the police, who started the investigation, that he killed Shraddha as she was pressuring him to get married. He also revealed many shocking things.
Aftab, who strangled Shraddha to death on May 18, cut her body into 35 parts and then dumped two parts a day in different parts of Delhi for 18 days.

Aftab watched human anatomy videos in order to strangle Shraddha and dismember her body. Then he bought a 300-liter capacity fridge and preserved her body. He used many home sprays and perfumes to control the decomposing smell.

The killer also revealed that he watched many crime and serial killer web stories like "Dexter" to learn tricks to get away with the murder.
While Shraddha's body parts were in the fridge, Aftab brought another woman to the apartment through the same online dating app that Shraddha used.

The Delhi Police are also investigating whether the second woman is connected to Shraddha’s murder. Police are also investigating the Bumble app to get more information about the women and Aftab.
To make everyone believe that Shraddha is still alive, Aftab now and then used to post on her social media accounts, but at some point Shraddha’s friends got suspicious as their calls were not answered.
Her friends said that Aftab and Shraddha were on good terms initially when they were in Mumbai, but later Shraddha would tell them that Aftab was assaulting her. They also claimed that they didn’t see each other after she left for Delhi.
Shraddha once texted his friend that Aftab would kill him. His friend reacted instantly and saved Shraddha. A man named Nadar revealed this while talking to the press.
According to Shraddha's friends, Shraddha wanted to break up with Aftab but had become emotionally attached to him, making it difficult for her to do so, and she ended up staying with him.
Shraddha's parents are demanding that Aftab be sentenced to death. The Delhi Women's Commission has also ordered the police to take steps to ensure that the culprits are given strict punishment in this case.
