the future captain of India?

Is Hardik Pandya

Hardik Pandya has been named captain of India's three-match T20I series against New Zealand. This is the first T20 series for India after the semi-final defeat against England in the T20 World Cup.

Hardik Pandya has a good record as a player. In both bowling and batting, he is performing as expected. Hardik also got good marks as a captain. However, he has a very different approach when it comes to leading the team.

IPL’s new franchise The Gujarat Titans have named Hardik as their captain, which has displeased cricket analysts and some fans.

The first call as Captain

They immensely doubted Hardik’s captaincy abilities and expected the least from him as skipper, but he overturned everyone’s expectations. The Gujarat Titans won the IPL title in their debut season and made a big statement.

Hardik led his team, the Gujarat Titans, in 15 games and turned out victorious 11 times. His success rate as captain is 73.33%, which is remarkable.

Success

Captaincy causes many players to lose their rhythm. But Pandya played with more responsibility. He scored 487 runs in 15 innings. He bowled in 10 innings, took 8 wickets, and played a vital role in the team's victories.

A clutch player

Hardik Pandya captained the national side for the T20 series against Ireland. India clinched the series 2-0, which boosted Hardik’s confidence.

Interim Captain

In the five-match T20 series against the West Indies prior to the World Cup, he served as interim captain in the absence of captain Rohit, leading India to an 88-run victory.

Hardik Pandya caught the attention of the selectors by playing for Mumbai in the IPL. After many years, it was thought that Team India had acquired a fast bowling all-rounder in the form of Kapil Dev. Likewise, in 2016, Pandya made his debut in T20 and ODI cricket.

Another Kapil Dev?

Pandya's career has not been that great, despite playing heroic innings. He had a mediocre performance until 2018. Due to his back injury and lack of form, he lost his spot in the team.

So.. so.

In January 2019, Hardik was embroiled in controversy. He faced suspension from the BCCI for making inappropriate comments on women on the Koffee with Karan show. Apologized but the board was not sympathetic. BCCI lifted the suspension after an internal discussion.

Suspension

Hardik is struggling to get back into form as a full-time all-rounder. In 2020, he married Serbian dancer Natasha Stankovic, and he was once again in the news. They gave birth to Agastya in the same year.

Married to a Serbian

After becoming a father, Hardik matured greatly. He showed his aggression in his play, but not on the field. Thus, he received the call from the Gujarat Titans.

Mature Approach

Hardik has become known for his superb finishes over the years. His power hitting in the recent South Africa-Australia series before the World Cup speaks for itself. With a polished mindset, Hardik has emerged as extremely vital for India in the lower middle order.

A deadly finisher

Hardik Pandya’s chances of becoming the full-time captain are fair. If he continues with the same approach and form, he has a healthy chance of being India’s captain by 2024.

Future captain?

Hardhik is capable of achieving victories with his tactics while remaining calm on the field. This became clear to me during the series against Ireland. He has a quality game along with skill. – VVS Laxman (interim coach)

Great Leader

My first choice for the next captain of India is Hardik Pandya. I strongly believe he will lead the team at the 2024 World Cup. – K. Srikanth (former cricketer)

He is my captain

What’s more delightful than being the skipper of your national team? If that happens, I will lead the team with joy and redoubled enthusiasm. – Hardik Pandya
