Karthika Pournami : The Significance of Amla Lamp

Kartika Poornami is the term for the full moon day during the Karthika Masam (Autumn season). According to the Hindu calendar, this season is very auspicious. Karthika Masam is very closely related to Lord Shiva and Keshava.

On this day, worshiping Hari and Haru is thought to bring forth their countless blessings.

Women gratefully celebrate Kartika Poornami. They do Pooja and Vratam in honour of the Holy festival.

People will light the lamps at Saiva and Vaishnava temples on this day.

– Lamps  be lit at the main entrance of the temple, and also in front of the flagpole base (dhvajastambhaṁ). – In your home near Tulsi Plant, and also place amla diya (Usri deepam) in the pooja room of your home

In Lord Vishnu temples,

Lakshmi, the goddess, adores amla. According to devotees, anyone who lights an amla lamp throughout the Kartika Masam would win goddess Lakshmi's mercy.

Why only amla lamps?

Additionally, according to our sacred books, if an amla lamp is lit on the day of Kartika Punnami, people would be freed from the Navagraha doshas.

(Note: As per Ayurveda, the human body is composed of three fundamental categories called Doshas, Dhatus and Malas.)

On Kartika Pornami day, take an amla, hollow it out, and fill it with ghee for the puja. After that, light it by dipping the wicks in the ghee.

Pournami Rules

– Fast must be performed all day and by worshipping god whole night. – Break the fast with Offering of Sacred fruits and food (Prasadam) to the moon god. – As per the Indian Shastras by doing this will help unborn babies in the womb of pregnant women.

There are several references to specific fasts for women on Karthika Pournami in our sacred writings.

Along with fasting, other religious observances have their own importance, such as – Vrishavratam – Saubhagyavratam – Manoratha Purnima Vratham – Mahiphala Vratam – Nana Phala Vratam – Kruthika Vratam.

Through doing poojas like Lakshapradakshina, Laksha Bilvarchana, Lakshavattulu, and Laksharudram, it is believed that women's married life would thrive.
