The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) management is trying to assemble the squad with powerful young players after a poor 2022 IPL season.
During the player retention period, SRH management made some unexpected choices with regard to this goal. Every key member of SRH, including their captain Kane Williamson, has been released.
Along with Kane Williamson SRH have released 12 players before heading for the IPL mini auction 2023. Here is the list.
SRH now needs a strong-willed captain and a clutch batsmen. David Warner and Kane Williamson, the franchise's rock-solid leaders, were instrumental in SRH's long-term success.
Willamson’s Replacement
The Hyderabad-based franchise has released Warner in 2021 and Kane this year. It may be a big challenge for SRH to get a bonafide captain as the options are very limited.
Additionally, they have the choice to repurchase Kane Williamson at a lower cost. But it's unclear whether Kane will actually return to SRH.
Washington Sundar and Abhishek Sharma, both all-arounders, have been retained by the SRH franchise.
Must target a world class all-rounder
Sam Curran or Cameron Green must be the targets for SRH because they both have a proven record of winning games. The team will also be keeping an eye on Sikandar Raza of Zimbabwe.
Nicholas Pooran who served as the wicket keeping batsman until last season for SRH was released by the management this year.
Alternative Wicket Keeping Batsmen
Kiwi's young sensation Glenn Philips has been retained as wicket keeper batsman but there must be an alternative for Philips.
Home grown talent KS Bharat who has IPL and international experience and is able to play crucial innings is available in the auction. SRH most probably will target Bharat, Going for Karthik is a plus because he will be an added asset into the Indian players group.
When compared to other teams, Sunrisers Hyderabad has a subpar batting lineup. Over the years, the squad placed a great deal of reliance on its bowling unit and match-winning batsmen like Warner and Williamson.
In need of a reliable Batsmen
Despite the limited options, SRH must keep an eye on some of the noteworthy players in this mini-auction.
Mayank Agarwal is a seasoned opener, while in recent years, Sai Sudharshan, Shaik Rasheed, and Narayan Jagadeesan have all excelled in domestic cricket. These players are capable of building innings.
SRH has to keep an eye out for international batsmen like Travis Head, Rilee Rossouw, Harry Brook, and Chris Lynn in the auction.
On Indian wickets, spinners are essential, and SRH hasn't acquired a quality spinner since Rashid Khan's departure in the mega-auction.
Spinners options
Some of the best spinners available in this mini-auction were Mayank Markande, Adil Rashid, and Adam Zampa.
