To coincide with Independence Day, several big films hit the screens on August 15. The movies ‘Double Ismart‘ featuring Ram and directed by Puri Jagannadh, and ‘Mr. Bachchan‘ starring Ravi Teja and directed by Harish Shankar were among the releases. Additionally, the Tamil star Vikram’s ‘Thangalaan’ and NTR’s brother-in-law’s film ‘Aay’ also premiered on the same day. Prior to their release, the films of Ravi Teja and Ram generated massive hype. However, post-release, they failed to meet expectations and disappointed in terms of collections. On the other hand, ‘Thangalaan‘ and ‘Aay‘ received positive reviews and are doing well at the box office. Let’s take a look at the 4-day collections of these four films and see which one is leading the pack.
Disastrous Collections for Mr. Bachchan!
Mass Maharaja Ravi Teja, paired with actress Bhaghyashri Borse, starred in the latest film ‘Mr. Bachchan,’ directed by Harish Shankar. This action entertainer, released on August 15, failed to impress the audience as expected, resulting in dismal first-day collections. It grossed only ₹5.3 crores worldwide. The second day brought in ₹1.75 crores, and the third day saw similar figures. By the fourth day, the movie’s collections had dropped from crores to lakhs, grossing only ₹65 lakhs worldwide. As a result, ‘Mr. Bachchan’ managed to collect just ₹7.50 crores in its first four days.
Double Ismart Collections Headed for Disaster!
The second film from the energetic star Ram Pothineni and director Puri Jagannadh combo, ‘Double Ismart,’ is the sequel to their previous blockbuster ‘Ismart Shankar.’ The film, which features Kavya Thapar as the lead actress, opened to decent figures, grossing ₹12.45 crores worldwide on its first day. However, negative talk quickly spread, leading to a drop in collections. The second day saw the film gross just ₹2.25 crores worldwide. Over the next two days, it managed to bring in ₹1.5 crores and ₹1.9 crores respectively. In total, ‘Double Ismart’ collected ₹16 crores in its first four days.
Thangalaan’s 4-Day Collections
South Indian star Vikram’s ‘Thangalaan,’ directed by Pa. Ranjith, also released on August 15. The film, produced by K.E. Gnanavel Raja, received positive word-of-mouth on its first day, grossing ₹26.44 crores worldwide. Over the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, it continued to perform solidly, bringing its total four-day worldwide gross to ₹65 crores. The fact that it achieved this level of success without even releasing in the North has garnered widespread praise. ‘Thangalaan’ is set to release in the North on August 30. With positive talk in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam, the film is expected to continue its strong box office performance this week.
‘Aay’ Moves Into Profits!
NTR’s brother-in-law Narnne Nithiin starred in the latest film ‘Aay,’ which was released on August 15. Despite competing with big films, ‘Aay’ stood its ground and garnered positive talk. The film has been performing well at the box office. On its first day, it grossed ₹2 crores and maintained that momentum on the second day. Trade sources reported that the film earned ₹1.20 crores on the third day and increased to ₹1.46 crores on the fourth day. With total collections of ₹7.20 crores in its first four days, ‘Aay’ became the first Independence Day release to enter profit territory. From here on, all earnings are expected to be pure profit, according to trade experts.
