Ponniyin Selvan: I’ (PS-1) is an adaptation of Kalki Krishnamurthy’s 1955 novel, “Ponniyin Selvan,” which briefly tells the story of the most powerful Chola king, Arulmozhi Varma, who later evolved into Raja Raja Chola. Many Kollywood actors and directors tried to make this film. Even MGR made an attempt to take this film to the floors, but it was held down for numerous reasons. Legendary director Mani Ratnam has been working for a long time to make this picture. Finally, in 2019, he collaborated with Lyca Productions to begin work on the film. They have officially announced that this epic period drama will be released in 2 installments but the shooting halted twice due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but finally the first film from this film series is expected to be released on September 30, 2022.
