Team India is preparing for their five-match T20 series against South Africa. The young players of the national squad are in good shape after a thrilling IPL season. ‘Umran Malik, the IPL’s best emerging player award winner, is likely to make his Team India debut in this T20 series.
Umran’s chances of making the first team have been discussed by Team India head coach Rahul Dravid.
“The team has a large roster, and each player has a distinct skill set. In this list, Umran is a very young player. He’s still getting used to the national team’s environment and locker room. I’m glad our squad has a lot of depth in all departments, but we should also be aware that there are a lot of senior pacers on the team.”
He also mentioned that
“The players are chosen by the selection committee based on the strengths of the opposition squad. Where the priority will be given to experienced players. But that doesn’t rule out the possibility of Umran being given a shot. In this series, we can see him bothering the opposition batters with his spectacular bowling. I can’t guarantee him a starting spot in the first game.”
In Delhi’s Feroz Shah Kotla stadium, the first T20 international will be played tomorrow at 7PM IST. Umran’s fans and Sunrisers Hyderabad supporters will have to wait patiently to see Umran bowl in a blue jersey. The selector has decided to rest the senior players Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Bumrah for this series. KL Rahul is named as the skipper for this series.
