Amaran Movie Review: Experience the Heroic Journey of Major Mukund Varadarajan
Movie: Amaran Cast: Sivakarthikeyan, Sai Pallavi, Bhuvan Arora, Rahul Bose, Lallu, Sreekumar, Shyam Mohan Cinematography: CH Sai Editing: R. Kalaivanan Producers: Kamal Haasan, R. Mahendran, Vivek Krishnani Directed by: Rajkumar Periasamy Release Date: October 31, 2024 Among films that vividly portray the sacrifices and bravery of Indian soldiers, Amaran stands out. This film, based on the life of Major Mukund Varadarajan who died fighting terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir, features Sivakarthikeyan as Mukund and Sai Pallavi as his wife, Indu. Produced in collaboration with Sony Pictures by Kamal Haasan in Tamil, this film was released in multiple languages during the Diwali festival. Let’s see how it fared with the Telugu audience. Plot: From childhood, Mukund Varadarajan (Sivakarthikeyan) dreams of becoming a soldier. While studying at Madras Christian College, he falls in love with his junior, a girl from Kerala named Indu (Sai Pallavi). He is selected as a lieutenant in the Indian Army. After joining the service, their love faces rejection from Indu’s family. Overcoming parental objections, they marry and start a new life, facing subsequent challenges interestingly. What sacrifices did Mukund Varadarajan make for the country? What kind of heroics did he perform for the nation? The rest of the story unfolds these details. What’s the Film Like? Amaran is a film blended with patriotism, love, and sacrifice. It touchingly portrays how a soldier's family endures mental stress and makes sacrifices. Indu's words, "Long-distance relationships were our past... and it remains the same," resonate deeply with the audience in every scene. The love story of Mukund and Indu stands out beautifully as a visual poem. Their romance and his military duties, though worlds apart, are portrayed very naturally on screen. The family scenes in Mukund’s personal life are emotionally gripping for the audience. The film also beautifully depicts the relationships between the people and soldiers in Kashmir, the operations carried out to capture terrorists, their strategies, and how soldiers handle sympathizers of terrorism. The climax operation to eliminate Altaf Wani gives the audience goosebumps. Who Did Well? Sivakarthikeyan delivers an extraordinary performance in a role unlike any he has done before. Known for his comedic roles, he completely transforms into a serious, dignified soldier, captivating the audience. Sai Pallavi, in her role, authentically portrays the dedication of a mother and wife, showcasing her talent. The chemistry between Sivakarthikeyan and Sai Pallavi enhances every scene, making it more remarkable. Technical Aspects: The film excels technically. CH Sai’s visuals reflect the geographic and military dynamics of Kashmir. GV Prakash Kumar’s music highlights the emotional undertones. The editing and action sequences not only fit well with the film but also strongly connect with the audience. Strengths: Strong storyline Emotionally powerful second half Chemistry between Sivakarthikeyan and Sai Pallavi Weaknesses: Some dragging scenes in the first half In Conclusion: As a tribute to Major Mukund Varadarajan, this film captures his courage, the sacrifices of his family, and touches the hearts of the audience. Rating: 4/5

During this period, some netizens have targeted her, calling for a boycott of Sai Pallavi's films on social media. The hashtag #BoycottSaiPallavi is trending nationwide. A video of her past comments, perceived as insulting to the Indian army, has been going viral on social media for the last three days. What Actually Happened? As known, the film 'Amaran' is set against an army backdrop. This has brought Sai Pallavi's controversial past comments about the Indian army back into the spotlight, causing the related video to go viral. During the promotions of the movie 'Virata Parvam,' Sai Pallavi gave an interview to a YouTube channel, discussing terrorism and violence. She remarked, "We view Pakistani soldiers as terrorists, and similarly, Pakistanis see our Indian soldiers as terrorists. They think we are harming them. Violence is no solution to any problem. Wars were fought in the past when there was no law. Now, there is no need for that." These comments have ignited fury among netizens. https://twitter.com/ViralVidox/status/1850064411202932830 Demand for Boycott In the same interview where Sai Pallavi allegedly disrespected the Indian army, she also made remarks that have been construed as offensive to Sanatana Dharma. Nationalist and traditionalist groups are demanding a 100% boycott of Sai Pallavi's films, suggesting that since she favors Pakistan, she might as well make films there. They are criticizing her harshly, saying she is not really the national crush but a different kind of crush. A netizen has also demanded a boycott of her latest film 'Amaran' and even called for her removal from the upcoming Hindi film 'Ramayanam,' in which she is supposed to play Sita. There are demands for stringent action against those who speak ill of Sanatana Dharma. On the other hand, Sai Pallavi's fans are defending her, claiming her words are being twisted and unnecessary controversy is being stirred up. https://twitter.com/Bhav1212B/status/1850791387672801479 https://twitter.com/cinematicfreak0/status/1850791153928745098 https://twitter.com/devx_18k/status/1850791086458831193 https://twitter.com/Chhuparustam91/status/1850790246012653618 https://twitter.com/itz_meprabhat/status/1850787660815855924 https://twitter.com/itz_meprabhat/status/1850787660815855924 https://twitter.com/MissDD114/status/1850829733895737441 Sai Pallavi's Emotional Post Amidst these promotions for 'Amaran,' Sai Pallavi recently visited the National War Memorial. She paid tribute to soldiers who died for the country, posting photos of the visit on her Instagram. She added emotional words to these images, stating, "Before starting the promotions for Amaran, I wanted to visit the National War Memorial. I went there a few days ago. It is a sacred temple that holds details about soldiers who sacrificed their lives for us. I felt very emotional while paying tribute to Major Mukund Varadarajan and Soldier Vikram Singh." https://twitter.com/Sai_Pallavi92/status/1850571262755582363 Are They Deliberately Targeting Her? Recently, during the promotions for 'Amaran,' Sai Pallavi made interesting comments. She mentioned that someone from Bollywood, representing a PR agency, approached her promising to enhance her image. However, she rejected this offer, stating she had no need for such services. Now, accusations are surfacing that this is a targeted campaign to tarnish her image as she is about to make her Bollywood debut with 'Ramayanam.' There are significant comments urging her removal from the role of Sita. Discussions in film circles suggest that the Bollywood PR teams are deliberately targeting Sai Pallavi. https://twitter.com/bollywooddadi/status/1849561000456179910 Amar Jawan Biography The film 'Amaran', directed by Rajkumar Periasamy and starring Sivakarthikeyan with Sai Pallavi (Sai Pallavi) as the heroine, is set to release this month on the 31st, coinciding with Diwali. Sai Pallavi Opens Up About the Emotional Toll of Filming 'Shyam Singha Roy': I Cried Out to My Sister for Help
Sai Pallavi, recognized as one of the leading actresses in Tollywood, made her cinematic debut with the Malayalam film 'Premam'. She won the hearts of Telugu audiences with 'Fidaa'. Her captivating acting skills and mesmerizing dance performances have left an indelible mark on the Telugu film industry. Recently, her Tamil film 'Amaran' achieved pan-Indian release and was a huge hit. In an interview with a channel about Amaran's success, Sai Pallavi made interesting remarks about her challenging experiences physically and mentally during the shooting of 'Shyam Singha Roy' with Nani. Why? Directed by Periyasamy and starring Sivakarthikeyan, 'Amaran' revolves around the life of a martyred army soldier and was a massive box office success, grossing over Rs. 180 crores. In this context, Sai Pallavi discussed her latest film and mentioned the difficulties she faced during the filming of 'Shyam Singha Roy'. She revealed that night shoots were especially challenging for her, stating that the majority of her scenes in 'Shyam Singha Roy' were filmed at night, which meant she had to stay awake until dawn. This continued for about 30 days, making her situation almost unbearable. "I Cried Out to My Sister" While shooting 'Shyam Singha Roy' at night, Sai Pallavi was also attending another movie set during the day, which left her mentally exhausted. One night, her sister Pooja Kannan visited, and Sai Pallavi broke down while talking to her, expressing her inability to stop her tears and her desire for a day off. Moved by her plight, her sister went directly to the producer of 'Shyam Singha Roy', Venkat Boyanapalli, and pleaded for a day off, saying, "My sister is crying, please give her at least one day off." The producer responded immediately, "Take ten days off. Do what you need to, and when you feel everything is fine, come back to the shooting." Sai Pallavi Stuns as a Devadasi In 'Shyam Singha Roy', directed by Rahul Sankrityan and starring Nani, the film was a huge success at the box office. It featured themes of reincarnation, with Nani playing dual roles as Vasu and Shyam Singha Roy, a character from the 1970s. Sai Pallavi excelled in the role of Devadasi Maitreyi, captivating the audience with her emotional performance and unparalleled dance skills, elevating her status as an actress. Her portrayal of the life of Devadasis was lauded as beyond praise. After the release of 'Shyam Singha Roy', the audience equally praised Sai Pallavi's performance alongside Nani. Sai Pallavi's Projects Currently, Sai Pallavi is working with director Chandoo Mondeti on the film 'Thandel', co-starring Naga Chaitanya. Diwali Drama: 'KA' Movie's ₹26.5 Crore Success Story Marred by Theater Politics and Tamil Nadu Rejection
Diwali Drama: 'KA' Movie's ₹26.5 Crore Success Story Marred by Theater Politics and Tamil Nadu Rejection
Starring Tollywood's young hero Kiran Abbavaram in the lead role, 'Ka', directed by the young duo Sujith and Sandeep, has been a massive success, particularly during the 2024 Diwali season. Co-starring young beauty Nayan Sarika, the film's collections have been steadily increasing, grossing over Rs. 26.52 crores in the first four days, surprising everyone. However, the film could have earned even more if not for certain injustices at the theaters which have significantly affected its collections. If this mistake is not rectified, the future of smaller films could be seriously jeopardized. Injustice in Theater Allocations 'Ka', starring Kiran Abbavaram, was announced long ago as a Diwali release, initially facing no competition for the holiday slot. However, other films such as 'Lucky Baskhar', 'Amaran', and 'Bagheera' entered the Diwali fray later. Except for 'Lucky Baskhar', the other films were foreign language films dubbed in Telugu. Due to the release of 'Amaran' and 'Bagheera', 'Ka' did not receive the expected number of theaters. Moreover, multiplexes showed a preference for showcasing 'Amaran'. With a strong production house like Mythri Movie Makers backing 'Lucky Baskhar', that film did not face any theater issues. However, 'Ka' suffered significant losses. Being a smaller film without a major star, distributors and exhibitors were hesitant to screen 'Ka', which ended up being shown in only 147 theaters across the Telugu states. Had 'Amaran' and 'Bagheera' been blocked from releasing during Diwali, 'Ka' would have easily secured more theaters and possibly joined the Rs. 50 crore club due to its strong performance. Ignored by 'Kollywood'! Tamil films receive extensive support from Telugu audiences, with stars like Suriya, Karthi, Vikram, Rajinikanth, and Kamal Haasan enjoying a separate fan base in the Telugu states, contributing significantly to the high box office collections of Tamil films. However, Telugu films do not receive the same level of appreciation in Tamil Nadu. Telugu films are somewhat looked down upon by Tamil directors, producers, and audiences. The issue with 'Ka' highlighted this bias once again. As part of a pan-India release strategy, the makers of 'Ka' had planned a strong release in Tamil Nadu. However, Tamil directors and producers completely blocked the release of 'Ka', fearing that it would compete with local Diwali releases. Not a single theater was offered in Tamil Nadu, which Kiran Abbavaram himself announced. Had 'Ka' been released there, the potential increase in collections would have been significant. Due to the lack of theaters, 'Ka' is now slated to release there a week late. Ignored by the Media! Even when injustices occur against 'Ka' in both Tamil Nadu and the Telugu states, Tollywood elites and entertainment media remain silent. Telugu film sites, journalists, and social media that repeatedly highlight Kiran Abbavaram's failures are silent on the injustices happening even though the film is achieving great success. They often question the necessity of a large budget for your film and whether it can recover the investment but remain silent when collections are drastically reduced. Isn't the entertainment media responsible for supporting good cinema? If this situation does not change, the future of small films could be in jeopardy, especially during festival seasons, potentially discouraging young heroes and directors from releasing films. Change is Necessary! Regardless of the industry Bollywood, Kollywood, Sandalwood, Mollywood, or Hollywood and regardless of the season, films are provided in theaters. If necessary, they indirectly pressure small films to step aside. This situation needs to change. During festive seasons like Sankranti, Dussehra, Diwali, and summer, checks should be placed on dubbing films from neighboring states, suggesting a delayed release of one week to ensure good collections for Telugu films. There is no injustice to anyone here. When Tamil Nadu prioritizes Tamil films, the same rule should apply in Telugu states. Tollywood elders, producers, and distributors need to think about this.
