Directed by Surya Manoj Vangal, this crime thriller sees Trisha in the role of a police officer. The series also features Indrajith Sukumaran, Jayaprakash, Amani, Ravindra Vijay, Anand Sami, and Rakendu Mouli in significant roles. "Brinda" began streaming on SonyLIV from August 2. How does this web series fare? Does it capture the OTT audience? Let’s explore in this review. Plot Brinda (Trisha) is a newly appointed SI at a police station. Being a woman, she initially receives little respect from her colleagues. One day, a corpse is discovered in a local pond. The post-mortem reveals that the victim was scalped and stabbed 16 times in the chest. Despite her superior’s orders to close the case, Brinda starts her investigation and uncovers a shocking truth. She discovers a pattern of 16 brutal murders. Consequently, senior police officials set up a special investigation team and include Brinda as a member. Who is the serial killer? Why are the murders being committed? How does Brinda’s team apprehend him? What is the connection of these murders to superstitions? Performances As police officer Brinda, Trisha captivates with her performance, portraying a dignified woman with conviction. She excels in action sequences. On the other hand, Anand Sami impresses as the villain, blending innocence with cruelty in his performance, becoming a highlight of the series. Indrajith and Ravindra Vijay perform well within their roles. The rest of the cast also manage to deliver decent performances. Direction On the narrative front, director Surya Manoj Vangal crafts this series with a conventional crime thriller theme but manages to engage the audience right from the beginning with a well-paced screenplay. The way the story intertwines incidents from the past and present is commendable. The investigation led by Brinda’s team unfolds intriguingly as they uncover each clue. However, the series seems elongated under the guise of detailed investigation, and some scenes of evidence collection stretch beyond logical reasoning. The portrayal of other police officers as unable to spot even minor clues does not quite impress. The subplot involving Trisha’s sister appears irrelevant to the main story. While the series spans eight episodes, some seem overly drawn out. Overall, the director successfully maintains engagement from start to finish. Technically... Technically, all departments have performed well. The background score, in particular, adds a significant plus to the film. The cinematography is also commendable. The editor could have tightened the work to benefit the pace. The production values are high. Both seasons surpassed expectations with their bold content and engaging dialogues, capturing the attention of the youth and setting high expectations for a third season. The much-anticipated third season, 'Mirzapur Season 3,' is now available for streaming on Amazon Prime. This season includes 10 episodes and is available in Hindi, Telugu, and several other South Indian languages. Did this season meet the high expectations?  What Happened in the Previous Seasons? In the first season of Mirzapur, Guddu Bhaiya (Ali Fazal) and Bablu Pandit (Vikrant Massey) worked for Kaleen Bhaiya (Pankaj Tripathi). The season ended tragically with Guddu losing his brother and close ones to Munna, Kaleen Bhaiya's son. In the second season, Guddu avenges their deaths by killing Munna and attacking Kaleen, who manages to escape. Season 2 concludes right where Season 3 begins. What’s the Story in Mirzapur Season 3? In Mirzapur Season 3, Guddu Bhaiya emerges as the new don of Mirzapur with the support of Beena Tripathi (Rasika Dugal) and his sister, Golu (Shweta Tripathi). Sharad Shukla and Shatrughan, who had saved Kaleen Bhaiya in the previous season, also aim for the throne of Mirzapur, leading to a conflict between Sharad and Guddu. However, the typical violence associated with the Mirzapur series is noticeably toned down this season. The absence of Munna's character and the reduced scope for Kaleen Bhaiya's role are significant drawbacks. Additionally, with episodes lasting 45-50 minutes, some may feel the series drags at times. Plot Since childhood, Raghav (Priyadarsi) has dreamed of marriage and a honeymoon. Working as an agent in a travel agency, he finally seems poised to realize this dream when he becomes engaged to Nandini (Ananya Nagalla), a psychologist chosen by his father (Muralidhar Goud). However, his plans unravel when Nandini leaves him at the altar for another man. Heartbroken and on the brink of despair, Raghav's life takes an unexpected turn when he meets Anandi (Nabha Natesh). The two quickly fall in love and marry, but on their wedding night, Raghav discovers that Anandi has multiple personality disorder, hosting five distinct personalities: Aadi, Maya, Jhansi, Papa, and Srisri. Performance Priyadarsi, once again, charms as Raghav, fitting perfectly into his role with his distinctive comedic timing, delighting the audience. Nabha Natesh excels in a challenging role with various facets, carrying the film on her shoulders with a career-best performance. She brilliantly displays the variations of her split personalities. The funny scenes between Nabha Natesh and Priyadarsi are engaging, though the dubbing for Nabha Natesh's role could have been better. Supporting actors like Ananya Nagalla and Muralidhar Goud play their parts within limits. Guest appearances by Suhas, Brahmanandam, and Niharika Konidela also shine. Direction Director Aswin Ram attempts to present the complex concept of multiple personality disorder in a humorous light. The first half is swiftly paced with sequences of wedding preparations, a halted marriage, a suicide attempt, and the quick marriage to Anandi all unfolding in an entertaining manner. While the first half thrills and amuses the audience, the story seems to dull down in the second half. The backstory of the heroine and the repetitive narrative might bore the audience. The climax is particularly confusing. Despite the innovation, director Aswin Ram struggles to keep the film engaging throughout. Technically On the technical front, the cinematography is a major plus for the film, providing fresh visuals. Vivek Sagar’s music, however, does not make a significant impact. The editing could have been tighter. The production values are high, with no compromises on the budget. Movies Releasing in Theaters Gorre Puranam Tollywood's young actor Suhas has become synonymous with diverse and unique films, captivating Telugu audiences with fresh stories. One such innovative film featuring Suhas, directed by Bobby, is 'Gorre Puranam.' Having completed its filming, this movie is set to hit screens on September 20. It revolves around a goat causing turmoil between two groups in a village, with Suhas getting involved in the conflict. A scientist from Yaskin’s team tries to kill him in response. The dialogues Yaskin delivers while killing the scientist are captivating. Supreme Yaskin: Chaavuku nenu chaala pranalau icchanu. The guard of Shambala, unaware of who Sumathi is, tries to stop them. The scene and dialogues that follow highlight this moment. The people of Shambala believe that the birth of Kalki will occur from her womb as her arrival brings rain. This scene gives the audience goosebumps. Dialogue Sumati (Deepika) questions Ashwatthama why Lord Vishnu chose her to be the mother of Kalki. The dialogues in this context are mesmerizing. Dialogue Upon arriving in Shambala, Sumati is claimed by Chatterjee, the Complex representative, who instructs his men to seize her. He tells his commander that riders have been sent in all directions and they will soon capture her. Meanwhile, Prabhas, who has already battled Ashwatthama, declares they can do nothing more. The dialogue between him and Chatterjee captivates the audience. Bhairava: Aa musalodu unnanthavaraku em cheyaleru. భైరవ : ఆ ముసలోడు ఉన్నంతవరకూ ఏం చేయలేరు. Chatterjee: Musaloda? ఛటర్జీ : ముసలోడా? Idi kuda odiponu. భైరవ : రికార్డ్స్‌ చూసుకో.. ఇంతవరకూ ఒక్క ఫైట్‌ కూడా ఓడిపోలేదు. ఇది కూడా ఓడిపోను.  Dialogue In the climax of the movie, the scene involving Kamal Haasan sends chills down the spine. After gaining power, he declares, “Jagannatha rathachakralu vastunnayi vastunnayi.. Rathachakra pralayaghola bhoomargam pattistanu.. Bhukampam puttistanu.” ('జగన్నాథ రథచక్రాల్‌ వస్తున్నాయ్‌ వస్తున్నాయ్‌.. రథచక్ర ప్రళయఘోళ భూమార్గం పట్టిస్తాను.. భూకంపం పుట్టిస్తాను') revealing the extent of the destruction he is about to unleash in the second part of his dialogue. However, this dialogue originates from Sri Sri’s epic work "Maha Prasthanam." Kamal Haasan previously delivered this dialogue in the movie "Akali Rajyam" 44 years ago.
