Niharika Konidela's 'Committee Kurrollu': A Vibrant Tapestry of Love, Politics, and Village Festivities
Cast: Sandeep Saroj, Yashwant Pendyala, Eshwar Rachiraju, Trinath Varma, Prasad Behara, Tina Shravya, Radya Suresh, Tejashwi Rao, Saikumar Director: Yadhu Vamsi Music: Anudeep Dev Cinematographer: Raju Eduroulu Editor: Anwar Ali Producer: Niharika Konidela Release Date: 09-08-2024 Niharika Konidela’s latest production, 'Committee Kurrollu,' has been released. The film features lead roles by Sandeep Saroj, Yaswanth Pendyala, Eshwar Rachiraju, Trinath Varma, and Prasad Behara, with Sai Kumar, Goparaju Raman, and others in significant roles. Directed by Yadhu Vamsi, the film hit theaters on August 9. Let's find out how the film has been received, if it has captivated audiences, and if it has brought success to producer Niharika Konidela in this review. Plot In Purushottampalli village of Godavari district, the Bharinkaalammatalli Jatra is celebrated once every 12 years. This festival, known as 'Bali Cheta,' holds great significance. This time, the festival coincides with the local Panchayat elections, prompting Sarpanch Polisetty Bujji (Sai Kumar) to face competition from Shiva (Sandeep Saroj), who decides to enter the fray. A tragedy at the festival 12 years ago, which resulted in the death of one of Shiva’s friends due to a caste conflict, leads to a resolution in the Panchayat to halt all election campaigning until the festival concludes. What happens next? How does the issue of reservations disrupt Shiva's gang? Did the friends who separated 12 years ago reunite? What role does Sarpanch Polisetty Bujji play? Did Shiva win the election as Sarpanch? Performances In this film, 11 young actors play the lead roles. Sandeep Saroj as Shiva, Trinath Varma as Subbu, Eshwar Rachiraju as William, and Yashwant Pendyala as Surya have all made commendable efforts to engage the audience with their distinct performances. The acting experience of Sai Kumar, Goparaju Raman, and Kancherapalem Kishore adds depth to the story. Prasad Behara's performance as the elder is captivating; he brings much humor to the comedic scenes and deep emotion to the dramatic ones. The other cast members have also performed commendably within their roles. Direction Director Yadhu Vamsi navigates the storyline set in the 90s, delicately touching upon the sensitive topic of reservations in society. The screenplay attempts to weave together friendship, love, caste issues, and politics. The dialogues, written in the local dialect of Godavari, and the vividly crafted festival scenes are particularly engaging. The first half progresses swiftly with typical Godavari-style comedy, and the interval builds intrigue. In the second half, the focus shifts more towards emotional scenes, though it feels slower compared to the first half. The scenes leading up to the climax offer a satirical take on today's political leaders. The love stories in the film are left somewhat unresolved, the resolution of the reservations issue is abruptly concluded, and some scenes feel unnecessarily stretched, which could be seen as drawbacks. Technically On the technical front, Anudeep Dev’s music stands out as a highlight of the film, especially the background score during the festival scenes. Cinematographer Raju’s camera work is commendable. The editing is adequate. The production values are high, showing that Niharika Konidela did not compromise on the budget. Plus Points - Story setting - Godavari style comedy - Festival scenes Minus Points - Slow-paced narration - Incomplete love narratives - Abrupt handling of the reservations issue Telugu.yousay.tv Rating: 3/5

Tollywood 2024: Blockbusters and Budget Surprises, From 'Kalki 2898 AD' to 'HanuMan'
Tollywood 2024: Blockbusters and Budget Surprises, From 'Kalki 2898 AD' to 'HanuMan'
The year 2024 has been extremely fruitful for Tollywood. This year's highest-grossing film was Prabhas's 'Kalki 2898 AD.' Released as a festive treat for Sankranti, the movie 'Hanuman' also showcased its strength at the national box office with impressive collections. However, these two films were made with massive budgets. In contrast, lower-budget films like 'Tillu Square,' 'Committee Kurrollu,' and 'Aay' also stood on par in terms of collections with those two films, achieving nearly triple the return on investment. These films have been noted for the significant difference between their budget and collections, ranking among the top 5 Telugu films. Let's examine these details in this special report. Committee Kurrollu Niharika Konidela's debut production, 'Committee Kurrollu,' featured eleven new heroes and was released on August 10, garnering positive reviews. It raked in Rs. 17.60 crores worldwide on a budget of just Rs. 6 crores. The film achieved three times the return relative to its budget, earning accolades from critics. 'Committee Kurrollu' is currently streaming on ETV Win, where it continues to receive a favorable response from OTT platforms. Aay The recent film 'Aay,' starring Narne Nithiin and Nayan Sarika, directed by Anji K. Maniputra, was released on August 15 and captured a hit status. It outperformed star-studded films like 'Mr. Bachchan' and 'Double iSmart' in collections, amassing a total of Rs. 14.10 crores. The production costs were reported to be between Rs. 6-8 crores. Including OTT rights, 'Aay' managed to earn nearly three times its expenses. Kalki 2898 AD Directed by Nag Ashwin and starring Rebel Star Prabhas, 'Kalki 2898 AD' has shaken the Indian box office, grossing over Rs. 1200-1300 crores worldwide. Made in a mythological and futuristic genre, the film was produced with an approximate budget of Rs. 600 crores but earned more than double its cost, receiving widespread acclaim. Pan India star Prabhas once again proved his mettle at the box office. The film also featured stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, and Deepika Padukone, with special cameos by Vijay Deverakonda, Dulquer Salmaan, S.S. Rajamouli, and Ram Gopal Varma. Tillu Square Starring Siddhu Jonnalagadda and Anupama Parameswaran, 'Tillu Square' released in March this year and made a splash at the box office, collecting over Rs. 135 crores globally. Produced by prominent producer Nagadevara Suryavanshi with a budget of around Rs. 40 crores, the film achieved more than three times its budget. This movie marked Siddhu Jonnalagadda's first entry into the Rs. 100 crore club. HanuMan Directed by talented filmmaker Prasanth Varma and starring Teja Sajja, 'HanuMan' captured nationwide attention. Released as a Sankranti gift this year, the film unexpectedly grossed over Rs. 350 crores on a modest budget of Rs. 40 crores, nearly nine times its production cost, astonishing everyone. This success elevated Prashant Varma to a star director status. Following 'HanuMan,' Varma announced a new project with Nandamuri Balakrishna's son Mokshagna Teja, which is soon to commence shooting. He is also focusing on the sequel 'Jai Hanuman.'

Bench Life Series Review: A Relatable Tale for IT Professionals with Stellar Performances
Bench Life Series Review: A Relatable Tale for IT Professionals with Stellar Performances
Cast: Vaibhav Reddy, Ritika Singh, Charan, Akanksha Singh, Nayan Sarika, Rajendra Prasad, Tanikella Bharani, Venkatesh Kakumanu, and others. Writer and Director: Manasa Sharma Cinematography: Dhanush Bhaskar Music: P.K. Dandi Producer: Niharika Konidela Production Company: Pink Elephant Pictures OTT Platform: SonyLIV Release Date: September 12, 2024 After the recent release and success of 'Committee Kurrollu,' which featured new actors and a fresh storyline, Niharika Konidela received commendations. This set high expectations for her newly produced web series 'Bench Life,' centered around the struggles of software employees, directed by Manasa Sharma against an IT backdrop. The series stars Vaibhav Reddy, Charan Peri, Ritika Singh, and Akanksha Singh in leading roles and began streaming on SonyLIV from September 12. Let’s delve into this review to see if 'Bench Life' is another hit in Niharika's account. What’s the Story? Balu (Vaibhav Reddy), Ravi (Charan Peri), and Meenakshi (Ritika Singh) are employees at a prominent software company and also good friends. Balu has been in love with Esha (Akanksha Singh), a colleague, for nine years but has never confessed his feelings. Meanwhile, Meenakshi dreams of becoming a director and circulates her scripts among producers. In the meantime, Ravi plans a trip to Goa with his wife (Nayan Sarika) and two friends, prompting the three friends to go on the bench. What happens after they go on the bench? What role does Prasad Vashisht (Rajendra Prasad) play in the company? What causes discord between Ravi and his wife? Did Ravi confess his love to Esha? What happened to Esha’s dream of becoming a director? To find out, one must watch the series. How Did They Perform? Vaibhav, as Balu, delivers a commendable performance, generating plenty of laughs with his comedic timing. Akanksha Singh, as his love interest, played her part well, captivating as a reserved young woman unable to express her inner feelings. The highlight of the series might be said to be the duo Charan Peri and Nayan Sarika, whose performances along with their scenes together are highly entertaining. Ritika fits perfectly into the role of Meenakshi, a young woman struggling to break free from an unsatisfying job to pursue her dreams of directing. Tulasi justly fulfills her role, while Rajendra Prasad once again charms with his comedic timing and emotional delivery. Tanikella Bharani, though in a brief role, makes a significant impact at a crucial moment in the story. Niharika Konidela, Sangith Shoban, and Venkat make memorable appearances in guest roles. How Was the Direction? Director Manasa Sharma has crafted the series in a way that connects well with the youth, particularly software employees, developing each character with a purposeful arc. The finale provided for the characters of Charan Peri and Nayan Sarika is particularly well-done. However, the endings given to Ritika Singh and Akanksha Singh's characters feel overly cinematic and lack naturalness. The comedy track between Rajendra Prasad and Vaibhav Reddy is a significant plus, as are the sentimental scenes involving Rajendra Prasad and Nayan Sarika. Overall, director Manasa Sharma has earned commendable marks, though the coarse language used by Vaibhav and the series’ appeal primarily to IT professionals could be seen as drawbacks. Technically... On the technical front, the cinematographer has done an excellent job presenting the software office environment effectively. The background music is also praiseworthy. Other departments like art work and production design have shown solid performance, reflecting high production values. Plus Points - Performances of the main cast - Directional skills - Comedy elements Minus Points - Occasionally bold dialogues - Appeal mainly limited to IT professionals Telugu.yousay.tv Rating : 3/5

Niharika Konidela’s Comments Cast Doubt on Akira Nandan's Film Debut, Fans React
Niharika Konidela’s Comments Cast Doubt on Akira Nandan's Film Debut, Fans React
In Tollywood, where Power Star Pawan Kalyan is one of the heroes with a massive fan following, currently serving as the Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, all his focus is on politics at the moment. In this context, there's a common sentiment that it would be great if his son, Akira Nandan, enters the film industry. Any small photo of Akira turns into a massive trend on social media, with fans delighting in seeing traces of Pawan in him. Fans are confident that Akira will eventually make his entry into the industry. However, Mega daughter Niharika Konidela's latest comments have dampened these hopes, casting doubt on Akira Nandan's film debut. Let's look into the details. 'I don’t know about that thought' Mega daughter and Naga Babu's daughter Niharika Konidela recently produced the successful film 'Committee Kurrollu'. In a recent interview about the film, she made interesting comments about Akira Nandan. When a journalist asked her when Akira would enter the films and if he could debut under her banner, Niharika responded, "Akira is still very young. I don’t know if he has any thoughts of coming into films. I have never asked him about it. But if he does, I will definitely make it happen." Her comments have gone viral on the internet. https://twitter.com/i/status/1833762404749996233 Mixed Reactions from Netizens Mega fans have mixed reactions to Niharika's comments about Akira's entry. While fans are eagerly waiting for Pawan's legacy to continue, Niharika's casual dismissal has raised questions. Some find it inappropriate that she has never asked Akira about his interest, suggesting it would have been better if she had provided a clear answer. However, others defend her comments, arguing that she cannot say anything definitive about something she doesn’t know. Nonetheless, Niharika did mention that if Akira decides to come into movies, she will definitely support him, reminding everyone that she said she would actively help if he chooses to pursue acting. 'I want to see him as a hero': Renu Desai Akira’s mother, Renu Desai, had previously made clear comments about his potential film career during a YouTube channel interview. She emphasized that Akira is not particularly interested in acting, clarifying that he doesn’t show much enthusiasm even when the topic of acting comes up. Renu stated that currently, Akira has no interest in joining films and that it’s all up to his choice. If he decides to enter films, she would announce it with great fanfare, akin to the grand celebrations of 'Band Baaja Baaraat'. She shared that seeing Akira as a hero is also a wish of her heart, marking it as one of the most joyful thoughts in her life. Akira.. Multitalented Regarding Akira Nandan's personal interests, he is multitalented. He has skills in sports, music, and even learned martial arts. Known to play basketball well, he is also academically proficient, topping his class, according to family members. With a keen interest in music, he is currently taking music courses. The Mega family set up a special performance for Akira during the Sankranti celebrations, where he played the piano for a song with a sentimental father theme from the movie 'Animal'. The video of this performance went viral on the internet. https://twitter.com/i/status/1747251367033577947

Shocking! Small Film 'Pottel' Beats Jr NTR's 400-Crore 'Devara' in Fan Reviews
Shocking! Small Film 'Pottel' Beats Jr NTR's 400-Crore 'Devara' in Fan Reviews
Ananya Nagalla and Yuva Chandra starred in the latest film "Pottel," directed by Saahith Mothkuri, who was introduced as a director with the movie "Savaari." Recently, "Pottel" has garnered a level of publicity that small films rarely achieve. Released last Friday (October 25), the film has been receiving positive responses from audiences. Viewers commented that the film reflects very natural and real-life scenarios from the past. In this context, a viewer’s comment comparing "Devara" to "Pottel" has gone viral on the internet. 'Much better than Devara' The film "Devara," directed by Koratala Shiva starring Jr. NTR, was recently released and created a tsunami of collections, grossing over Rs. 400 crores at the box office. Top-notch music director Anirudh worked on this film. A viewer’s comment comparing "Pottel" to "Devara" has been trending online. A YouTuber who went to the theater showing "Pottel" tried to gather audience opinions. In the process, he stopped the audience coming out of the theater and asked how the movie was. The viewer expressed in the video that he liked "Pottel" much better than "Devara." Are smaller films better than big films? The YouTuber asked, to which he reiterated the viewer’s opinion that "Pottel" is better than "Devara." This video is currently going viral. https://twitter.com/i/status/1849871631818293722 Content is king Regardless of whether it’s a big or small film, Telugu audiences appreciate good content, which is exactly what is happening with "Pottel." This low-budget film with a solid story is captivating the audience. Recent films like "Aay," "Committee Kurrollu," and "Mathu Vadalara 2" also achieved success in the same way, despite not having big stars or big budgets. However, the Telugu audience embraced even "Devara." Yet, it is intriguing that the viewer expressed a preference for "Pottel" over "Devara." What is "Pottel" about? Director Saahith Mothkuri has depicted the rural backdrop of the 1980s in "Pottel," transporting the audience back in time right from the beginning. In the first 20 minutes, he immerses the audience in village life, showing how the lower and vulnerable classes were oppressed and subjected to severe hardship. The film’s approach to caste, religion, and egotistical distinctions between big and small has become a major attraction. The introduction of characters, the love story between the hero and heroine, and other scenes beautifully set up the first half. The second part seems a bit faltering where the director over-emphasized the villain harming the main characters to evoke emotions, leading to scenes that stray from logic. However, the director succeeded in connecting the audience with the underlying message of the story. Plot  The story unfolds in Gurramgadda village, located at the borders of Maharashtra and Telangana. The villagers conduct a festival for the village deity Balamma once in every cycle and offer sacrifices. It is believed that during this time, the deity possesses Patel (Ajay), the village head, who then prevents the villagers from progressing, particularly in education. On the other side, Pedda Gangadhari (Yuva Chandra) serves as the keeper of the sacrificial animals and secretly educates his daughter. When Patel finds out, he makes the sacrificial animal disappear. He threatens to sacrifice Gangadhari’s daughter if the animal isn’t found by the festival. What does Gangadhari do to save his daughter? Is he able to bring back the animal? What role does Bujjamma (Ananya Nagalla) play in this story? https://telugu.yousay.tv/en/pottel-movie-review-rangasthalam-level-telugu-film-sandeep-reddy-vangas-bold-comparison-ananyas-de-glam-avatar-shocks-but-second-half-disappoints.html

Ram Charan's 'Game Changer' Sets Records with ₹20 Crore Song and Massive OTT Deal
Ram Charan's 'Game Changer' Sets Records with ₹20 Crore Song and Massive OTT Deal
The upcoming film 'Game Changer', featuring the stellar combination of star director Shankar and mega power star Ram Charan, is set to release as a Sankranthi gift. Bollywood beauty Kiara Advani stars opposite Charan. As part of the movie promotions, two songs have recently been released to a great response. The makers are now gearing up to release a third song, which is currently causing quite a stir due to its extravagant budget. Let’s take a look at the details. Rs. 20 Crores for a Single Song! The first two songs from 'Game Changer', 'Jaragandi Jaragandi' and 'Ra Macha Macha', have received a positive reception. Particularly, 'Ra Macha Macha' has garnered millions of views on YouTube and is trending nationwide. The makers are now preparing to launch the third single by the end of October or the first week of November. While the first two songs were energetic, the third single is set to be a melody. According to the latest buzz, the budget for this third song is over Rs. 20 crores, though this has yet to be confirmed by the makers. The Budget of Three Hit Films! Recent Telugu releases 'Aay', 'Committee Kurrollu', and 'Mathu Vadalara 2' have been successful and well-received by audiences. These films were made on modest budgets and have achieved good box office returns. The combined budget of these three films is estimated at around Rs. 20 crores. Rumors that a single song from 'Game Changer' cost Rs. 20 crores are sparking debate. Reports suggest that the second single 'Ra Macha Macha' also had a budget of Rs. 6-10 crores, with hundreds of dancers performing in various costumes. The hefty spending on songs alone is drawing criticism. Does Shankar Need to Change His Approach? Tamil star director Shankar is known for the spectacular songs in his films, which have been a hallmark of movies like 'Bharateeyudu', 'Jeans', 'Oke Okkadu', 'Aparichitudu', 'Shivaji', 'Robo', 'Snehithudu', and 'Robo 2.0'. Shankar tries to provide a new experience to the audience by shooting songs in beautiful international locations. However, after a series of flops, there's growing concern among producers about Shankar's recent track record. The film community suggests that if Shankar doesn't adjust his approach, producers may be reluctant to work with him due to the high financial risks. Record Price for OTT Rights! The OTT rights for 'Game Changer' have reportedly been sold for a record price. Amazon Prime has acquired the streaming rights for Rs. 110 crores for the South Indian languages alone. The makers are also in talks to sell the Hindi digital rights to another streaming service. It is estimated that the total earnings from OTT could reach Rs. 150 crores. Even though 'Game Changer' is still two months away from release, selling the OTT rights for such a high amount is unprecedented in the industry. Thandel vs Game Changer 'Game Changer' is officially set to release on January 10 as a Sankranthi gift. On the other hand, Naga Chaitanya’s 'Thandel' is also being prepped for a Sankranthi release. The industry buzz is keen on the clash between the heirs of Chiranjeevi and Nagarjuna, who have faced off several times before. After the global success of 'RRR', Ram Charan is looking to solidify his stature with 'Game Changer'. Meanwhile, Chaitanya is determined to hit a success with 'Thandel' after the mixed responses to his recent projects. The battle between Charan and Chaitanya will be one to watch.

Netizens Lash Out as Tirumala Laddu Controversy Sparks Clash Between Pawan Kalyan and Prakash Raj
Netizens Lash Out as Tirumala Laddu Controversy Sparks Clash Between Pawan Kalyan and Prakash Raj
The issue of the Tirumala Laddu in Andhra Pradesh has become a topic of national discussion. The Chief Minister Chandrababu has even set up a special committee to look into it. Meanwhile, Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan undertook an eleven-day penance. Recently, while on a visit to Vijayawada's Indrakeeladri, he also cleaned the steps there as part of his penance. During this period, Pawan lashed out at Prakash Raj. "Shouldn’t we speak up if there is injustice against Hinduism?" he argued, triggering a series of questions from Prakash Raj who has been targeting him without directly naming him. Prakash Raj stirs the fire! Actor Prakash Raj first shared his opinions on Twitter about the adulteration of Tirumala’s Laddu prasadam. In response to Pawan, who spoke about Sanatana Dharma during his penance in Vijayawada, Prakash warned that he wouldn't remain silent if one spoke as they pleased about the religion. Since then, he has targeted Pawan with a series of indirect criticisms under his posts titled ‘Just Asking’. His recent tweet questioned, "What do we want.. to stir up emotions among the people for political gain, or to delicately resolve issues with necessary, even severe, measures without hurting public sentiments? Just asking." https://twitter.com/HariiTweetz/status/1839538486115729667 Pawan - Karthi Issue Also Draws Comments During the 'Satyam Sundaram' pre-release event on Monday, actor Karthi's response to a question about the Tirumala Laddu controversy led to a dispute. When the anchor brought up laddus, Karthi jokingly said, "We shouldn't talk about laddus now. It's a sensitive topic... we don't need it." This provoked a harsh response from Pawan at the venue of Durga temple. He warned the film industry to speak respectfully or stay silent. Karthi immediately apologized to Pawan, but Prakash Raj poked at Pawan saying, "What joy there is in making someone apologize for no fault! Just asking..." He then tweeted another post: "One avatar before winning... another after winning. What’s this discrepancy? Why this confusion? Which is true?" implying criticism of changing stances. https://twitter.com/HariiTweetz/status/1839538486115729667 https://twitter.com/HariiTweetz/status/1839538486115729667 Why so much venom? Netizens are intensely criticizing Prakash Raj for targeting Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and actor Pawan Kalyan. They question why he is meddling in matters that don’t concern him. "If Pawan speaks about his adherence to Sanatana Dharma, how does that incite anyone?" they argue. They also question why Prakash did not speak out when Tamil Nadu CM Udhayanidhi Stalin criticized Hindus. They question the venom against Pawan when he fights for his beliefs. They assert that the Tirumala Laddu issue, related to Hindu faith, is none of Prakash Raj’s concern, especially as someone seen as opposing Hindu interests. They are also outraged over Prakash Raj’s tweet comparing the Tirumala Laddu to a bomb. https://twitter.com/HariiTweetz/status/1839538486115729667 https://twitter.com/HariiTweetz/status/1839538486115729667 https://twitter.com/HariiTweetz/status/1839538486115729667 https://twitter.com/HariiTweetz/status/1839538486115729667 https://twitter.com/HariiTweetz/status/1839538486115729667 https://twitter.com/HariiTweetz/status/1839538486115729667 This is Betrayal! Actor Prakash Raj has always had a good relationship with the Mega family. Megastar Chiranjeevi has often spoken of him as a brother. This year, the Mega family even supported his candidacy in the Movie Artists Association elections against Manchu Vishnu, with Chiranjeevi providing substantial encouragement and Nagababu actively campaigning for him. Despite this, netizens comment that Prakash Raj has betrayed the Mega family by targeting Pawan. https://twitter.com/HariiTweetz/status/1839538486115729667 Will he become another Posani? Observing Prakash Raj’s series of tweets, netizens speculate that he might end up like Posani Krishna Murali, who after playing a significant role during the previous YSRCP government, repeatedly targeted the Mega family, especially Pawan Kalyan, with harsh criticisms. There’s talk that Posani lost film opportunities because of his conflicts with a powerful family in the industry. Analysts opine that if Prakash Raj continues in this manner, he might face similar circumstances. The ongoing Pawan vs Prakash Raj issue could lead to significant developments. https://twitter.com/HariiTweetz/status/1839538486115729667

KhadirProduction House: Lyca ProductionsProducer: Subaskaran AllirajahRelease Date: October 10, 2024 Superstar Rajinikanth plays the lead role in 'Vettaiyan - The Hunter,' directed by T.J. Gnanavel, known for 'Jai Bhim'. Produced by Subaskaran of Lyca Productions, the film features Amitabh Bachchan, Rana Daggubati, Manju Warrier, Fahadh Faasil, Dushara Vijayan, and Ritika Singh in pivotal roles. The movie has been released in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam. However, the retention of the Tamil title in the Telugu version drew some criticism. Did the movie overcome these issues to receive positive talk? Did it bring Rajini another solid success after the blockbuster 'Jailer'? Let’s find out in this review. Plot Police officer Adhiyan (Rajinikanth) serves as the SP of Kanyakumari and earns a reputation as an encounter specialist. Based on a complaint from school teacher Saranya (Dushara Vijayan), he takes down a drug mafia leader. Later, Saranya is transferred to Chennai, where she unexpectedly becomes a victim of sexual assault and murder. As teachers' associations and the public protest on a large scale, the case is handed over to Adhiyan. He apprehends a person named Gunaa within 48 hours, claiming him to be the culprit, and executes him in an encounter. A judicial committee is then formed, headed by Judge Sathyadev (Amitabh Bachchan), to investigate the matter. What did the committee find? What was the reason behind Saranya's death? What role does the education mafia play in her murder? And how are characters like Patrick (Fahadh Faasil), Nataraj (Rana Daggubati), ACP Roopa Kiran (Ritika Singh), and Hanu Reddy (Sampath Raj) connected to the case? To find out, you must watch the movie. Performance Analysis As always, Superstar Rajinikanth delivers an exceptional performance. His mass moments, heroism, and elevation scenes make his character a visual treat. Especially, his dialogue delivery and mannerisms are sure to impress the audience. Amitabh Bachchan, in an equally important role, is fantastic, and their scenes together are electrifying. Fahadh Faasil, playing a police informer, is captivated by his witty performance. Rana Daggubati and Dushara Vijayan also got substantial roles and impressed with their performances. The rest of the cast has performed well within their scope. Direction and Execution Director T.J. Gnanavel, known for the socially conscious 'Jai Bhim,' attempts to deliver another strong message through 'Vettaiyan.' Adding mass moments, heroism, and commercial elements to the story was a major plus. The film boldly addresses how people exploit under the guise of "smart education." The director starts the movie on a commercial note with Rajinikanth's introduction and action against the drug mafia and takes the story into the core plot after Saranya's case. However, the slow pace of the narration and some predictable elements work against the film. But the scenes between Amitabh and Rajini are a highlight, adding intrigue. Rajini’s dialogues and the director’s handling of the star cast like Fahadh Faasil and Rana are impressive. The climax is also satisfactory. Technical Aspects In terms of technical aspects, every department performed well. The cinematography was excellent, giving the film a commercial look. Anirudh's background score, as always, excites the audience, and the fans are sure to enjoy it. The editing could have been a bit sharper. Lyca Productions did not compromise on the production quality. Surprising Choice: ‘Laapataa Ladies’ to Represent India at the 2025 Oscars, ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ Snubbed
The Oscars hold a prestigious spot among global film enthusiasts and is a coveted goal for actors and filmmakers worldwide. This year, many expected 'Kalki 2898 AD' to be nominated for Best International Feature Film from India due to its international standards. However, in a surprising turn, the Hindi film 'Laapataa Ladies' was chosen as India’s entry for the 2025 Oscars. It appears the 'Kalki' team is planning to follow the strategy used by last year’s 'RRR'. Was 'Kalki' Unjustly Overlooked? Directed by Kiran Rao, 'Laapataa Ladies' has officially been selected as India’s entry for the 2025 Oscars. The Film Federation of India's jury, led by Assamese filmmaker Jahnu Barua and comprising 12 members, chose this film over others including 'Kalki 2898 AD', 'Hanuman', and 'Mangalavaaram' from Tollywood. Despite 'Kalki’s' international success, its omission has surprised cinema lovers, with some commenting that it faced the same injustice as 'RRR' the previous year. 'Kalki' in the Path of 'RRR' Last year, 'RRR' did not secure a spot in the Best International Feature Film category, prompting director S.S. Rajamouli to submit it under general categories. It received nominations in 15 categories including Best Picture and Best Director, ultimately winning an Oscar for the song "Naatu Naatu" under Best Original Score. Now, the 'Kalki' team is considering a similar approach, hoping to be recognized in various general categories. If the Oscar committee considers and shortlists 'Kalki’s' nominations, it could officially compete. The 'Hanuman' team is also contemplating a general category submission. Why 'Laapataa Ladies' Was Chosen Jahnu Barua, chairman of the Film Federation of India, explained the decision for 'Laapataa Ladies', highlighting the film’s portrayal of Indian social structures and morality, presenting India in a significant light. After extensive deliberation over eight days, the jury selected 'Laapataa Ladies' from among 29 contenders. Director Kiran Rao expressed joy over the recognition of the hard work put into an impactful story, hoping for global admiration just as it was received in India. Here are the Competing Films from the South! Of the 29 films vying for an Oscar nomination, a notable number were from South India. From Tollywood, three films were in contention; from Kollywood, six managed to make the list, including 'Maharaja' featuring Vijay Sethupathi, 'Thangalaan' with Vikram, 'Kottukkaali' starring Soori, 'Jigarthanda Double X' by Lawrence - S.J. Suryah, 'Valai' directed by Mari Selvaraj, and 'Jam' directed and acted by Pari Elavazhagan. From the Malayalam industry, films like 'Attam', 'Aadujeevitham' (The Goat Life), 'All We Imagine as Light', and 'Ullujukku' made the list, totaling 13 South Indian films in the Oscar race. However, only 'Laapataa Ladies' has officially entered the Oscars from India, with further announcements about other films pending. What Makes 'Laapataa Ladies' Special? 'Laapataa Ladies' reaffirms the saying "the story is the hero of the film." It tells the tale of two brides from a rural area who accidentally switch places during a train journey. The film unfolds their lives post this incident and how they find their way back to their husbands. Structured as a comedy drama, the film engages the audience while raising questions about the recognition of women in society and critiques patriarchal systems. Directed by Kiran, 13 years after her debut with 'Dhobi Ghat', the film received mixed responses at the box office but was well-received on OTT platforms.
