"Hide N Seek" Review: A Gripping Crime Thriller with Unexpected Twists and Turns
Cast: Viswant Duddumpudi, Shilpa Manjunath, Rhea Sachdeva, Tejaswini Naidu, Viva Raghav, Sumanth Varela, and others.
Written and Directed by: Basireddy Rana
Music by: Lijo K. Jose
Editor: Amar Reddy Kudumula
Producer: Narendra Buchireddygari
Release Date: September 20, 2024
Viswant Duddumpudi, known from movies like 'Kerintha' and 'Manamantha', is now featured in the film 'Hide N Seek'. Produced under the banner of Sahasra Entertainments by Narendra Buchireddygari and directed by Basireddy Rana, this film has raised expectations with its teasers and trailers. Released in theaters this Friday (September 20), let’s see how much it managed to entertain the audience.
What is the Story About?
The story unfolds in the backdrop of Kurnool. Shiva (Viswant Duddumpudi) is a medical student aspiring to become an army doctor. He is in love with Varsha (Rhea Sachdeva), who studies in the same college. In the meantime, a series of inexplicable murders start shaking up the city. A delivery boy is inexplicably beaten to death with a rod. Similar baseless murders spread fear across the city. To solve these serial murder mysteries, police officer Vaishnavi (Shilpa Manjunath) steps into the scene. However, Shiva discovers clues that even the police can't seem to find, leading them to suspect him as the psycho killer. Who framed Shiva in these murders? Who is behind these serial killings? To uncover these mysteries, one must watch the movie.
How Did They Perform?
Young actor Viswant Duddumpudi delivers an excellent performance in the role of Shiva, showcasing his emotional depth well. Kannada actress Shilpa Manjunath looks convincing as a sincere police officer, carefully matching her Telugu dialogues. Rhea Sachdeva, playing the heroine, is limited to a few scenes. Actor Saksi Shiv adds great value to his negative character with his deep voice and compelling acting, making a significant impact. Other actors performed adequately within their roles.
How is the Direction?
Director Basireddy Rana successfully crafts this film as an investigative crime thriller. From the opening scene to the end, he manages to keep the audience glued to their seats. The screenplay is gripping, especially from the first murder to the climax, presenting unforeseeable twists. The way characters are designed and integrated into the story is impressive, with an intriguing link to ancient stories. However, placing this modern warfare in a small city like Kurnool doesn't seem entirely convincing. The film struggles to establish the extent of youth addiction to gaming, and sometimes the portrayal of human emotions falls flat. Overall, the film will appeal to fans of crime investigation movies.
Technically Speaking
Technically, the cinematography is commendable. Lijo K. Jose’s background music is a significant plus, enhancing the suspense elements effectively. The editing is adequate, and the production values are quite good.
Plus Points
- Viswant Duddumpudi’s acting
- Novelty in the story
- Thrilling elements
Minus Points
- Weak drama
- Some unclear scenes

Simbaa Movie Review: Supernatural Thrills Meet Crime Drama in 'Simbaa'
Cast: Jagapathi Babu, Anasuya Bharadwaj, Vashistha N. Simha, Divi Vadthya, Kabir Duhan Singh, Sreenath Maganti
Director: Murali Manohar
Music: Krishna Saurabh
Producers: Sampath Nandi, D. Rajendra Reddy
Release Date: 09-08-2024
The film 'Simbaa,' directed by Murali Manohar and featuring Jagapathi Babu and Anasuya Bharadwaj in key roles, falls under the supernatural crime thriller genre. This cinema has been co-produced by prominent directors Sampath Nandi and Dasari Rajendra Reddy and was released to audiences on August 9. Let's evaluate the film's impact and its reception among the viewers in this review.
Plot
In Hyderabad, a key figure from the Partha Group is murdered. During the investigation of this case, another individual from the same group is also killed. The police conclude that a school teacher, Akshika (Anasuya), and an investigative journalist, Fazil (Sreenath Maganti), are involved. They are arrested, but amidst their custody, another murder occurs in full view of everyone. A prominent doctor's involvement complicates the case further. What is the motive behind these murders? Why are individuals associated with Partha (Kabir Singh) being targeted? What is the connection of the Forest Man, Purushottam Reddy (Jagapathi Babu), to these murders? What conflicts exist between him and Partha? The film must be watched to uncover these answers.
Performances
Jagapathi Babu, in the role of Purushottam Reddy, captures the audience with his commanding presence and excels in action sequences. Anasuya delivers a compelling performance as teacher Akshika, embodying her character flawlessly. Divi, Sreenath Maganti, and Vashistha Simha also engage well in their roles, with Vashistha Simha's portrayal as the investigative officer being particularly notable. Senior actors Gautami and Kasturi add charm in secondary roles. Kabir, portraying the antagonist, was adequate. The rest of the cast performed well within their roles.
Direction
Director Murali Manohar has attempted to blend environmental themes into a crime and investigative story. The introduction of Anasuya’s character, the love track between Divi and Sreenath Maganti, and the dual murder events are well-handled in the first half. However, the police investigation scenes feel routine and lack logical progression. In the second half, Jagapathi Babu’s entrance as the Forest Man, emphasizing tree conservation and love for nature, brings thought-provoking scenes. Nonetheless, the lack of impactful dialogue means the director’s message doesn’t resonate strongly with the audience. The concept of 'biological memory' is intriguing in the film. A better presentation of the Forest Man episode could have enhanced the impact. Overall, although the movie's concept is interesting, the director fails to effectively convey it to the audience.
Technically
On the technical front, Krishna Saurabh’s background music is a highlight, elevating several scenes effectively. Krishnaprasad’s cinematography is commendable, and the editing is adequate. The production values are high.
Plus Points
- Performances by Jagapathi Babu and Anasuya
- The environmental message
- The secondary meanings
Minus Points
- Lack of engaging narrative
- Dragged scenes

Why To Watch It?
Director Jis Joy has crafted this film with an interesting storyline involving a police officer wrongfully entangled in a female murder case, and another officer who is reluctant to accept the case. The engaging screenplay keeps the audience intrigued, with the narrative building suspicion on every character and increasing the audience's interest. The method shown by the director in framing CI Jayashankar in the murder case is commendable. Particularly, the twist in the climax stands out, making it a highlight of the film. Although the plot may not be entirely new, Jis Joy has successfully delivered an average crime investigation thriller with 'Thalavan.' It's a great pick for anyone looking for a solid crime thriller this weekend.

Brinda Web Series Review: Trisha Takes in Gripping Crime Thriller on SonyLIV
Cast: Trisha, Indrajith Sukumaran, Jayaprakash, Amani, Ravindra Vijay, Anand Sami, Rakendu Mouli, and others
Written and Directed by: Surya Manoj Vangal
Cinematography: Dinesh K. Babu
Music: Shakti Kanth Karthik
Editor: Anwar Ali
Producer: Kolla Ashish
Release Date: August 2, 2024
Streaming Platform: SonyLIV
Star heroine Trisha, who has excelled in films, has embarked on a new journey in the OTT space with her debut web series, "Brinda." Directed by Surya Manoj Vangal, this crime thriller sees Trisha in the role of a police officer. The series also features Indrajith Sukumaran, Jayaprakash, Amani, Ravindra Vijay, Anand Sami, and Rakendu Mouli in significant roles. "Brinda" began streaming on SonyLIV from August 2. How does this web series fare? Does it capture the OTT audience? Let’s explore in this review.
Plot
Brinda (Trisha) is a newly appointed SI at a police station. Being a woman, she initially receives little respect from her colleagues. One day, a corpse is discovered in a local pond. The post-mortem reveals that the victim was scalped and stabbed 16 times in the chest. Despite her superior’s orders to close the case, Brinda starts her investigation and uncovers a shocking truth. She discovers a pattern of 16 brutal murders. Consequently, senior police officials set up a special investigation team and include Brinda as a member. Who is the serial killer? Why are the murders being committed? How does Brinda’s team apprehend him? What is the connection of these murders to superstitions?
Performances
As police officer Brinda, Trisha captivates with her performance, portraying a dignified woman with conviction. She excels in action sequences. On the other hand, Anand Sami impresses as the villain, blending innocence with cruelty in his performance, becoming a highlight of the series. Indrajith and Ravindra Vijay perform well within their roles. The rest of the cast also manage to deliver decent performances.
Direction
On the narrative front, director Surya Manoj Vangal crafts this series with a conventional crime thriller theme but manages to engage the audience right from the beginning with a well-paced screenplay. The way the story intertwines incidents from the past and present is commendable. The investigation led by Brinda’s team unfolds intriguingly as they uncover each clue. However, the series seems elongated under the guise of detailed investigation, and some scenes of evidence collection stretch beyond logical reasoning. The portrayal of other police officers as unable to spot even minor clues does not quite impress. The subplot involving Trisha’s sister appears irrelevant to the main story. While the series spans eight episodes, some seem overly drawn out. Overall, the director successfully maintains engagement from start to finish.
Technically...
Technically, all departments have performed well. The background score, in particular, adds a significant plus to the film. The cinematography is also commendable. The editor could have tightened the work to benefit the pace. The production values are high.
Plus Points
- Plot and Narration
- Trisha’s Acting
- Investigation Scenes
Minus Points
- Length
- Dragged Scenes

Cast: Fahadh Faasil, Aparna Balamurali, Roshan Mathew, Vineeth, Anu Mohan, Achyuth Kumar, Vijay Menon, and others.
Writer and Director: Pawan Kumar
Music: Poornachandra Tejaswi
Cinematography: Preetha Jayaraman
Editing: Suresh Arumugam
Producers: Vijay Kiragandur, Vijay Subramanian
Actor Fahadh Faasil has made a significant impact in the South Indian film industry with his versatile acting skills. He has received critical acclaim for his outstanding performances, both as a hero and a villain. His Malayalam film "Dhoomam," released last year, received positive reviews in theaters. Recently, the Telugu version of this film was released on OTT platforms. Starting from July 11, the movie began streaming on Aha. Has this film impressed the Telugu audience? Has Fahadh Faasil once again captivated viewers with his performance? What is the concept of 'Dhoomam'? Let's explore this review.
The Plot
Avinash (Fahadh Faasil) works at a cigarette company as the sales head, where his intelligence significantly boosts sales. One day, he has an argument with the company's MD, Siddh (Roshan Mathew), which leads to his resignation. While traveling with his wife Diya (Aparna Balamurali), Avinash is attacked by a masked man who kidnaps his wife and warns him to comply with his demands if he wants her back. Who is this masked man? Why is Avinash implicated in a murder case? Is there a connection between the masked man and the company's MD? How does Avinash escape the trap? That’s the story.
Performance
In "Dhoomam," Fahadh Faasil delivers a one-man show, completely embodying the role of Avinash. He portrays a husband fighting to save his wife and a man trying to rectify his mistakes with exceptional skill. Aparna Balamurali impresses as Diya with her natural performance. Roshan Mathew, in a negative role, and Vineeth as Praveen, do justice to their characters. The rest of the cast also delivers commendable performances within their roles.
Direction
Director Pawan Kumar aims to highlight the societal harm caused by cigarette and tobacco products through this film. He effectively showcases the tactics cigarette companies use to generate profits and depicts the thrilling struggle of a young man trapped in a dangerous situation trying to save his wife. The parallel narrative of the protagonist's present and past, combined with an engaging screenplay, captures the audience's attention. The twist at the intermission heightens interest in the second half. The film concludes with a unique climax, setting it apart from typical movies. However, the lack of commercial elements, limited characters, and a slow-paced second half are drawbacks.
Technical Aspects
Poornachandra Tejaswi's music, especially the background score, effectively elevates several scenes. The cinematography by Preetha Jayaraman is impressive. The editing by Suresh Arumugam is decent but could have been tighter in the second half. The production values are high, matching the film's quality.
Plus Points
- Fahadh Faasil's performance
- The underlying message
- Unique climax
Minus Points
- Slow-paced narrative
- Second half

"\The Mystery of Moksha Island: A Thrilling Web Series with Twists and Suspense
Cast: Nandu, Tejaswi Madivada, Priya Anand, Ashutosh Rana, Pavani Reddy, Keshav Deepak, Sudha, Bhanu Chander, and others.
Director: Anish Kuruvilla
Cinematography: Naveen Yadav
Music: Shaktikanth Karthik
Editing: Umair Hasan, Fayaz Ray
Producers: Gopichand Achanta, Ram Achanta
OTT: Disney+ Hotstar
Starring Ashutosh Rana, Priya Anand, Nandu, Sonia Agarwal, and Tejaswini Madivada in leading roles, the latest Telugu web series "The Mystery of Moksha Island" has been directed by Anish Kuruvilla. This suspense crime thriller has debuted on the prominent OTT platform Hotstar. How is this series? Has it pleased the OTT audience? Let's find out in this review.
Plot
Nobel laureate Indian scientist Vishwak Sen (Ashutosh Rana) dies unexpectedly in a flight accident, leaving behind an estate worth nearly ₹24,000 crores. Before his death, he writes a will distributing his wealth equally among all his relatives, with one condition: they must spend a week on Moksha Island. Agreeing to this, Vishwak Sen's family members land on the island, but unexpected events unfold, leading to their deaths one by one. What is the mystery of Moksha Island? Why did Vishwak impose the condition to stay on the island for a week? Are the people who went there really Vishwak's family members or not? What is Vishwak's connection to Moksha Island? That is the story.
Performance
The web series "The Mystery of Moksha Island" features several actors. Among them, Priya Anand, Nandu, and Ashutosh Rana stand out. Nandu justifies his role as a young man determined to solve the island mystery, while Ashutosh Rana is compelling as a cunning scientist. Tejaswi Madivada and Akshara Gowda attract more with their glamour than their acting. Roshan Kanakala, son of the famous anchor Suma Kanakala, impresses in a gay role. Bhanuchander, Sonia Agarwal, Ajay Katurvar, and Satyakrishna, along with others, do justice to their roles with their performances.
Direction
Director Anish Kuruvilla has crafted a well-written mystery story set on an island. He designed characters with varied backgrounds for the series, showing an unknown side to each character. Who is killing those who set foot on the island? Episodes where everyone suspects each other build suspense. The director engages the audience with numerous questions about the island over six episodes. The way he unravels the mysteries in the final two episodes is satisfying, although having too many characters on screen can be confusing. Romantic and bold scenes might be uncomfortable for family audiences. The climax might not be as satisfying as expected. However, those who enjoy thriller genres will likely appreciate this series.
Technically
On the technical front, Naveen Yadav's cinematographer is impressive. He beautifully captures the beach episodes. The art department also performs well; the lab setup looks realistic. The background music provided by Shaktikanth Karthik is decent. The editing is okay, and the production values are good.
Plus Points
- Acting of the main cast
- Engaging narration
- Twists
Minus Points
- Bold content
- Too many characters

Mirzapur has achieved significant success as an OTT crime thriller series. The first season premiered in 2018, with a second season following in 2020. Both seasons surpassed expectations with their bold content and engaging dialogues, capturing the attention of the youth and setting high expectations for a third season. The much-anticipated third season, 'Mirzapur Season 3,' is now available for streaming on Amazon Prime. This season includes 10 episodes and is available in Hindi, Telugu, and several other South Indian languages. Did this season meet the high expectations?
What Happened in the Previous Seasons?
In the first season of Mirzapur, Guddu Bhaiya (Ali Fazal) and Bablu Pandit (Vikrant Massey) worked for Kaleen Bhaiya (Pankaj Tripathi). The season ended tragically with Guddu losing his brother and close ones to Munna, Kaleen Bhaiya's son. In the second season, Guddu avenges their deaths by killing Munna and attacking Kaleen, who manages to escape. Season 2 concludes right where Season 3 begins.
What’s the Story in Mirzapur Season 3?
In Mirzapur Season 3, Guddu Bhaiya emerges as the new don of Mirzapur with the support of Beena Tripathi (Rasika Dugal) and his sister, Golu (Shweta Tripathi). Sharad Shukla and Shatrughan, who had saved Kaleen Bhaiya in the previous season, also aim for the throne of Mirzapur, leading to a conflict between Sharad and Guddu. Meanwhile, Munna's widow, CM Madhuri (Isha Talwar), joins forces with Sharad to weaken Guddu. On the other hand, Kaleen Bhaiya makes an unexpected return to the fray for Mirzapur’s throne. How did Guddu handle these dire situations? Did Guddu succeed even after shooting Kaleen? Did CM Madhuri achieve her goal of overthrowing the throne of Mirzapur? Watch Season 3 to find out.
Performance Reviews
Ali Fazal delivers a compelling performance as Guddu Bhaiya, carrying the season on his shoulders. Shweta Tripathi, as Golu, does not disappoint, enhancing her role from the previous seasons. Rasika Dugal breathes life once again into the character of Beena Tripathi. Isha Talwar impresses as the CM, following closely after Fazal and Vijay Varma in capturing the audience's attention. Pankaj Tripathi, although appearing in fewer scenes, leaves a mark with his signature acting style. The rest of the cast justly fulfills their roles.
Directional Insights
Compared to previous seasons, this installment showcases more political drama. The directors have skillfully crafted the series with intense and thrilling action-packed episodes. The strategic moves in the battle for Mirzapur are intriguingly presented, with engaging twists and suspenseful factors. However, the typical violence associated with the Mirzapur series is noticeably toned down this season. The absence of Munna's character and the reduced scope for Kaleen Bhaiya's role are significant drawbacks. Additionally, with episodes lasting 45-50 minutes, some may feel the series drags at times. The lack of bold dialogues, a draw for the youth in previous seasons, might disappoint some viewers. A lack of curiosity about what comes next also marks a failure on the directors’ part. Without expectations, Mirzapur Season 3 is engaging, but it might seem lackluster compared to previous seasons.
Technically…
Technically, all departments have performed well. The background music, in particular, stands out, adding depth to the scenes. The cinematography is decent, though the editing could have been tighter. The production values are high.
Plus Points
- Strong performances from the main cast
- Political drama filled with twists
- Engaging background music
Minus Points
- Lack of anticipated action scenes
- Dragging scenes
- Absence of bold dialogues that previously attracted the youth

Gorre Puranam Review: A Quirky Tale Where the Goat Steals the Show!
Cast: Suhas, Vishika Kot, Posani Krishna Murali, Raghu Karumanchi, and others
Director: Bobby Varma
Music: Pavan CH
Cinematographer: Suresh Sarangam
Editor: Vamsi Krishna Ravi
Producer: Prashanth Mandava
Release Date: 21-09-2024
Tollywood's young actor Suhas has become synonymous with diverse films. Continuing his trend of intriguing Telugu audiences with unique storylines, Suhas stars in another innovative film, 'Gorre Puranam' directed by Bobby Varma. Notably, director Tharun Bhascker provides the voiceover for the goat. Released on September 21, how does this film fare? Did it captivate the audience or not? Let's find out in this review.
What's the Story?
Ravi (Suhas) ends up in jail for committing a murder. Meanwhile, a Muslim man buys a goat to make biryani for his family, but it escapes. In an attempt to catch the goat, the Muslim man and several others chase after it. The goat takes refuge in a village temple where it accidentally gets drunk and is captured by Hindus who want to sacrifice it. This incident catches the media's eye, escalating religious tensions, leading to the police arresting the goat. It is kept in the same cell as Ravi. Why did Ravi commit murder? What is the connection between Ravi’s crime and the goat? Who tried to kill the goat in jail? To find out, one must watch the movie.
How Did They Perform?
Suhas's role is brief in the film, but he captivates with his natural acting prowess. The goat appears on screen longer than the human actors, with Tharun Bhascker’s voiceover adding a comedic touch. Comedian Getup Sreenu also provides a voice for the goat. Other actors like comedian Raghu and Jenny, though in brief roles, significantly impact the story.
How's the Direction?
Director Bobby Varma’s effort to cast a goat as a principal character is commendable. He cleverly narrates where the goat’s story began, what it desires, and its purpose, while infusing the film with sharp satire targeting people, politicians, and the media. While entertaining, the director also makes the audience think. The development of Suhas’s character is well executed. However, the director falters in connecting why he committed murder and planned further killings. The lack of commercial elements and ineffective emotional scenes are drawbacks of the film.
Technically Speaking
Technically, the cinematography is a significant plus. The background score suits the film well, and the editing is adequate. The production values are high, showing no compromise in spending.
Plus Points
- Suhas’s acting
- Story and narration
- Dialogues
Minus Points
- Lack of commercial elements
- Ineffective emotional scenes
