Director Shiva crafted 'Kanguva' by connecting a centuries-old folk tale to the present era. Despite choosing a strong storyline, he completely failed to present it meaningfully. The initial 20 minutes tested the patience of the audience, and even after (Kanguva Review) the character Kanguva appeared on screen, it failed to engage. The introduction of five clans—Pranavakona, Kapala Kona, Sagar Kona, Aranyakona, and Hima Kona—created a confusing atmosphere, and no clan connected with the audience. The loud dialogues of every character only added to the viewer’s irritation. However, Suriya’s performance in the roles of Francis and Kanguva, and Bobby Deol's villainy as Rudhira brought some life to the film.







Matka’s openings were even worse



'Matka', directed by Karuna Kumar with Mega Prince Varun Tej and Meenakshi Chaudhary, also opened on Thursday to negative reviews. As a result, the first-day collections were shockingly low. Trade circles announced that the film only managed to gross Rs. 1.2 crores worldwide, with barely (Matka Review) Rs. 80 lakhs to Rs. 1 crore from the two Telugu states. After bagging Rs. 191.5 crores on the first day, the film managed to gather Rs. 298.5 crores (GROSS) worldwide over two days, as stated by the makers who also posted a special poster on social media to mark the occasion. According to the producers, "Kalki" continued its strong performance by adding another Rs. 107 crores (GROSS) on the second day. However, compared to the first day's collections, there was a significant drop of 80% in the revenues. This downturn has led to disappointment among Prabhas’s fans as the film failed to reach the anticipated Rs. 350 crores mark within the first two days, barely crossing Rs. 300 crores instead.







First Day All-Time Record



The film "Kalki" has created a sensation in North America, winning over audiences with the performances of Prabhas and other leading actors. In this region, "Kalki" set an all-time record by earning $3.8 million from the premieres on its opening day, marking the highest first-day collection ever achieved by an Indian film in North America. This milestone placed "Kalki" at the top, followed by "RRR" (which made $3.46 million), "Salaar" ($2.6 million), and "Baahubali 2" ($2.45 million) in the subsequent positions.







RRR's Record Remains Safe!



According to trade experts, "Kalki 2898 AD" could not surpass the record set by "RRR," which remains the top-grossing Indian film on day one with Rs. 223 crores (GROSS). "Kalki" ended its first day with Rs. 180 crores, failing to break the record held by "Baahubali 2," which is in second place with Rs. 217 crores. However, "Kalki" did surpass other major films like "KGF 2" (Rs. 164.5 crores), "Salaar" (Rs. 158 crores), "Adipurush" (Rs. 136.8 crores), and "Saaho" (Rs. 125.6 crores), securing its place in the top three.







Impact of Match on Collections!



The promotional efforts for "Kalki 2898 AD" fell short compared to films like "Baahubali 2" and "RRR." Greater promotional activities could have potentially led to new box office records. Additionally, the T-20 World Cup match between India and England on Thursday evening (June 27) diverted the audience’s attention, negatively impacting the film's collections on its opening day. The fact that it was a working day also affected the revenue. With the World Cup final scheduled for today (June 29), there's a possibility of further impacts on the movie's third-day collections.
