The Oscars hold a prestigious spot among global film enthusiasts and is a coveted goal for actors and filmmakers worldwide. This year, many expected 'Kalki 2898 AD' to be nominated for Best International Feature Film from India due to its international standards. However, in a surprising turn, the Hindi film 'Laapataa Ladies' was chosen as India’s entry for the 2025 Oscars. It appears the 'Kalki' team is planning to follow the strategy used by last year’s 'RRR'.



Was 'Kalki' Unjustly Overlooked?



Directed by Kiran Rao, 'Laapataa Ladies' has officially been selected as India’s entry for the 2025 Oscars. The Film Federation of India's jury, led by Assamese filmmaker Jahnu Barua and comprising 12 members, chose this film over others including 'Kalki 2898 AD', 'Hanuman', and 'Mangalavaaram' from Tollywood. Despite 'Kalki’s' international success, its omission has surprised cinema lovers, with some commenting that it faced the same injustice as 'RRR' the previous year.







'Kalki' in the Path of 'RRR'



Last year, 'RRR' did not secure a spot in the Best International Feature Film category, prompting director S.S. Rajamouli to submit it under general categories. The recent release "Vettaiyan" employed AI to alter Amitabh Bachchan’s voice, and now the complete dubbing for "Kanguva" is being done using AI, indicating a successful experiment, as believed by the producer. With a target of Rs. 1000 crore in collections, "Kanguva" is set for a grand release, as recently stated by producer Gnanavel. Hombale Films has announced that 'Mahavatar: Narsimha' will be released on a pan-India scale. The movie is set to be released in Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Hindi. Ashwin Kumar is directing the film, with music by Sam CS. The movie is being produced on a grand scale by Shilpa Dhawan, Kushal Desai, and Chaitanya Desai. Moreover, it has been hinted that more films under the Mahavatar series are expected, including other avatars in future productions.

Continuing the success of 'Kantara' and 'Salaar,' Hombale Films is bringing more exciting films. 'Kantara: Chapter 1,' featuring Rishab Shetty in a pivotal role, is currently being filmed rapidly as a prequel to the first part, with significant enhancements. Additionally, 'Salaar: Shouryanga Parvam,' starring Prabhas, has recently begun shooting. An agreement has also been reached to produce two more films with Prabhas.

Three Years... Three Films



Hombale Films has announced two more films with Prabhas and made intriguing remarks during the occasion. The production house expressed great joy in working on Prabhas's films and stated that the movies were announced with the goal of creating a cinematic experience. They've coined the phrase "The Hombale is Calling Prabhas." These films are scheduled for release in 2026, 2027, and 2028. Chiru's Cameo



Chiranjeevi starred in the Telugu hit 'Attaku Yamudu Ammayiki Mogudu' produced by Geetha Arts under Allu Aravind and directed by Kodandarami Reddy. Later, this film was remade in Tamil with Rajinikanth as 'Maapillai' by Allu Aravind. In this film, Megastar Chiranjeevi made a striking cameo. He appears at a temple stairs fighting a riotous mob intent on disrupting the hero's wedding. Notably, Srihari also appears in these scenes. Chiru even delivered his lines in Tamil himself. When Rajinikanth introduces his mother-in-law, Chiru whispers in his ear, "Your mother-in-law looks good!" (in Tamil) to which Rajinikanth responds jokingly, "You look like you're causing trouble! Leave now, man!" This cameo was unexpected at the time. Chiru and Rajinikanth had already acted together in several films, but this was the first time Chiru appeared in a guest role. Now, this practice is widely adopted across various industries.
