This Week’s OTT & Telugu Movie Releases (12th July)
Over the past two weeks, the only new movie released in theaters is 'Kalki 2898 AD'. Directors and producers have been hesitant to release their films alongside a movie featuring Prabhas, avoiding direct competition. This week we have a few biggies and a small-budget film.

Indian 2 Weekend Collections: 'Bharateeyudu 2' takes a significant drop in earnings. How much over the weekend?
The film 'Bharateeyudu 2', starring Kamal Haasan and directed by Shankar, is facing difficulties at the box office. Negative reviews from its first showing have significantly impacted its earnings. As a result, the revenue over Saturday and Sunday was low, causing the weekend collections to plummet. There is now widespread speculation that the film will be a disaster.
How much were the weekend collections?
Trade circles announced that 'Bharateeyudu 2' only managed to garner ₹59 crores over the weekend. It earned ₹25 crores on its first day, and significantly less, ₹18.2 crores on Saturday and ₹15.1 crores on Sunday. Saturday collections for the Tamil version were ₹13.7 crores, Telugu ₹3.2 crores, and Hindi ₹1.3 crores. Expected to increase, Sunday's collections instead dropped further, making ₹15.1 crores in India, with the Tamil version alone bringing in ₹11 crores. Telugu and Hindi versions only made ₹2.8 crores and ₹1.3 crores respectively.
Further decline expected!
With collections failing to meet expectations in the first weekend, the film crew is expressing concern. If this is the situation in the first week, there is apprehension about how much the collections could drop in the coming days. It's reported that some theater owners, especially in the Telugu states, are considering halting the screenings due to low turnout. Therefore, from Monday onwards, 'Bharateeyudu 2' is expected to perform even worse, with the Tamil market remaining the only hope for the film.
Day 1 collections?
Negative reviews impacted 'Bharateeyudu 2' on its first day, earning only ₹25.6 crores (GROSS) as reported by trade circles. The Tamil version collected the highest with ₹16.5 crores. Telugu earned ₹7.9 crores and Hindi just ₹1.2 crores. The film completely failed to attract the Hindi audience, leading to dismal collections in the north. The lack of interest from the Telugu audience was also noted.
A significant drop compared to other films!
Compared to Kamal Haasan's previous film 'Vikram', which earned ₹60 crores on its opening day, 'Bharateeyudu 2' saw a drastic fall in its Day 1 collections. His recent villain role in 'Kalki 2898 AD' garnered over ₹190 crores on its first day. Director Shankar's last film 'Robo 2.0' also created a record by collecting ₹93 crores on its opening day. However, 'Bharateeyudu 2' released on Friday didn't even come close to these films, collecting less than half of their Day 1 earnings, which surprised trade analysts.
Why did the collections drop?
The primary reason for the disappointing Day 1 collections of 'Bharateeyudu 2' is believed to be its failure to meet expectations. An outdated story and a weak screenplay significantly hurt the film. While the social message provided some strength, the lack of father-daughter sentiment, which was a plus in 'Bharateeyudu', turned out to be a negative. The songs also failed to impress, further impacting the film negatively. Overall, the sequel disappointed many, as netizens widely expressed their dissatisfaction. These factors likely contributed to the poor box office performance of 'Bharateeyudu 2'.
