Why Trying to Imitate Rajamouli’s Magic Backfires: The Lessons 'Kanguva' and Other Films Learned the Hard Way
Why Trying to Imitate Rajamouli’s Magic Backfires: The Lessons 'Kanguva' and Other Films Learned the Hard Way
Among the nation's esteemed directors, Rajamouli holds a top position. From the beginning of his career to the present, he has maintained a streak of success without a single flop. Rajamouli is a master at grasping the pulse of the audience and crafting films accordingly. To date, each of the 12 films released under Rajamouli's direction has achieved unique acclaim and remains evergreen in the eyes of the audience. However, many directors have attempted to emulate Rajamouli's style and failed. They tried making films with similar themes to Rajamouli's and ended up burning their fingers. Recently, Kanguva also followed Rajamouli's pattern but ended up disappointing the audience. What are the reasons for this? What other films have faced setbacks by following Rajamouli's approach? Let's find out. Did They Err by Comparing It to 'Baahubali'? The film Kanguva, directed by Shiva starring Suriya, was released worldwide on November 14. The pre-release event of this film invited Rajamouli, and the promotions hyped it as what 'Baahubali' is to Tollywood, 'Kanguva' would be to Kollywood, setting high expectations. However, post-release, the situation seems to have turned upside down. Viewers felt that the film lacked the substance found in 'Baahubali' and criticized director Shiva for his flawed storytelling. Rajamouli is known for evoking strong emotions, but Kanguva failed to resonate emotionally with the audience. The characters could not engage the audience on a journey, and viewers commented that it's worth watching the film only for Suriya's performance. Those Films Too Were the Same! Like 'Kanguva,' several past films have tried to replicate Rajamouli's formula and ended up being unsuccessful. The movie 'Sakthi' (2011) featuring Jr. NTR and directed by Meher Ramesh, aimed to captivate like 'Magadheera' but flopped. 'Sakthi' also revolved around a reincarnation theme but failed to capture the Telugu audience. 'Brahmastra,' starring Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, despite its large budget, failed to impress due to its inadequate content and visual spectacle. Even 'Ponniyin Selvan,' despite garnering positive reviews in Kollywood, could not create a sensation and only the first part met expectations while the second part did not live up to the hype. Bollywood’s 'Shamshera,' set against a British backdrop similar to RRR, also faced a terrible defeat. In Tamil, 'Puli' and in Malayalam, 'Marakkar,' although creating significant buzz in the style of a Rajamouli film, failed to succeed. The Secret to Rajamouli’s Success! When people think of a Rajamouli film, they envision a stellar cast, massive budget, spectacular graphics, and an evergreen story. These elements are considered reasons for his films’ sensational success. However, these factors are just key components that aid success, not the core of it. Rajamouli's real formula lies in the emotional drama—something many films miss and only Rajamouli manages to carry through. He places significant emphasis on emotions in his films, which he believes are crucial for success. Rajamouli creates an emotional bond between the viewer and the characters, drawing the audience deeply into his movies. This engagement makes the characters linger with the viewers, even after leaving the cinema, prompting them to revisit the film. This emotional connection is something many directors struggle to emulate. Rajamouli Busy with Upcoming Projects Following RRR, Rajamouli is set to direct a new film featuring Mahesh Babu, known as SSMB 29, which will be a pan-world movie. This upcoming film will showcase Mahesh in a never-before-seen look, set against the backdrop of the Amazon forests, with significant location scouting happening in South Africa. British actress Naomi Scott has been confirmed as the heroine. The initial schedule will be completed in a Varanasi set in Hyderabad, after which the second schedule will move to South Africa.

Following 'RRR', the highly anticipated film 'Game Changer' starring Ram Charan, directed by renowned director Shankar and produced by Telugu producer Dil Raju, is set to be a political action entertainer scheduled to release as a festive gift on January 10. As the release date approaches, the film's team is focusing on promotions, including locking in the date for the teaser release. It has been announced that the teaser will be released in Uttar Pradesh. Despite having two Telugu states, why is the teaser launch event planned in the North? It seems there is a master plan behind this decision. When is the teaser? In the upcoming film 'Game Changer,' Bollywood beauty Kiara Advani stars as the heroine alongside another heroine, Anjali, who plays a significant role. The film features Naveen Chandra, Sunil, Srikanth, Bollywood actor Harry Josh, Kollywood actors SJ Suryah, Samuthirakani, and Kannada actor Jayaram in key roles. Karthik Subbaraj provides the story, and Sai Madhav Burra delivers the dialogues. Recently, the movie team has fixed the teaser release for November 9th and announced that the launch event will take place in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. Why in Lucknow? Initially, the 'Game Changer' teaser launch event was planned to be held in Hyderabad. However, due to local conditions and permissions, the venue was shifted to Lucknow. Given the film's pan-India release, nationwide promotions are deemed crucial. The movie team believes that starting the official promotions in the North could enhance accessibility and engagement with the audience there. Moreover, starting from the teaser release, the team plans to keep the buzz alive by releasing updates every two weeks. Ram Charan is performing dual roles, and it remains to be seen if the teaser will reveal the looks of these two characters. The First of its Kind! Tamil cinema's leading director, Shankar, has directed numerous blockbuster hits such as 'Gentleman', 'Premikudu', 'Bharateeyudu', 'Jeans', 'Oke Okkadu', 'Boys', 'Aparichitudu', 'Sivaji', and 'Robo', which were all popular in Telugu through dubbing. 'Game Changer' marks Shankar’s first direct Telugu film, and it is also his first collaboration with Ram Charan. Known for making films with strong messages, Shankar has crafted 'Game Changer' in the same vein, and it appears the teaser has been cut to introduce its theme. It will be interesting to see how much the teaser excites the audience. A Highlight for the Film! Recently, the 'Game Changer' team released a special poster hinting at an upcoming teaser. It sparked interest with an image of Charan sitting at a table with numerous gangsters charging towards him, suggesting it's the film’s introduction scene. Rumors suggest this mob fight will give viewers goosebumps similar to 'RRR' and is expected to be a major highlight of the film. After the fight, Charan reportedly boards a helicopter, followed by the song 'Ra Macha Macha.' Record Business? Trade circles predict 'Game Changer' will do substantial business in the Telugu states, with potential theatrical business around ₹150 crores from Andhra Pradesh, Ceded, and Nizam areas. Originally, such high business figures were not anticipated when the film was scheduled for a December release. However, with the release now set for Sankranthi, the business expectations have significantly increased, according to film circles.

He plans to shoot the VFX-related scenes in advance. Accordingly, pre-production work is underway to ensure these scenes are ready to be handed over to the VFX teams early. This strategy allows for simultaneous completion of VFX work and shooting, potentially speeding up the entire filmmaking process and thrilling the fans. Addressing the Criticisms SS Rajamouli, one of the most esteemed directors in the country, has faced recent criticism for the lengthy durations it takes to release his films, often three to four years. To counter this, it's known that Rajamouli has made strategic decisions regarding VFX work. With such planning, it is expected that the film could be released within one or two years. It is anticipated that 'SSMB 29', even if it starts filming next year, could be released by the end of 2026. Following the Paths of 'RRR' and 'Baahubali' Like his period dramas 'Baahubali' and 'RRR', Rajamouli is reportedly preparing a similar epic narrative for Mahesh Babu. There is strong buzz that this movie will be set in the 18th century and is an ambitious attempt to recreate a story from 225 years ago. Rajamouli plans to authentically portray the tribal looks of hundreds of years ago for the cast. Producer KL Narayana is expected to fund this grand venture with a budget of Rs. 1000 crores, and Hollywood technicians are being hired to meet the production's high standards. Inspiration for the Story The Mahesh Babu-Rajamouli film is rumored to be an adventure thriller set against an African backdrop. In a recent interview, Rajamouli's father and renowned writer Vijayendra Prasad mentioned that they both are huge fans of South African novelist Wilbur Smith, which inspired him to base the screenplay on Smith's books. However, he assures that the screenplay will bear Rajamouli's signature style. MM Keeravani is set to compose the music for the film.

Satyadev: 'Don’t Let Zebra Be Like That,' Satyadev Appeals to Telugu Audiences
Satyadev: 'Don’t Let Zebra Be Like That,' Satyadev Appeals to Telugu Audiences
Actor Satyadev’s latest movie, Zebra, has been making waves in the film industry. Featuring Kannada actor Dhananjay in a key role, the movie, directed by Eashvar Karthik, also stars Priya Bhavani Shankar and Jennifer Piccinato. The film received positive reviews and started gaining traction after its first day, thanks to word-of-mouth publicity. Recently, the team organized a success meet. Amid this, Satyadev penned an open letter to the audience, sharing his thoughts and reflecting on the struggles of his earlier movies. What Did Satyadev Say? Satyadev expressed his happiness over the audience's response to Zebra in a heartfelt note shared on social media. He wrote: "This success is yours. You’ve said the movie is good, and I couldn’t ask for more. I’ve been waiting for five years for such a hit. I’ve longed to make a movie that you love and to hear you say, 'You’ve delivered a hit.' When I succeed, you celebrate, and that fills my heart with joy. You missed watching Bluff Master in theaters but later showered it with love on OTT and YouTube. I hope the same doesn’t happen with Zebra. Please watch this film in theaters—it’s a movie you’ll definitely enjoy." https://twitter.com/ActorSatyaDev/status/1861276550337073501 Struggles With Every Film Satyadev is one of those talented actors who has struggled to gain the recognition he deserves. Despite delivering strong performances, he has often faced challenges in reaching audiences. He hoped that Zebra would turn his fortunes around, especially with the positive reviews. However, the film’s box office numbers have not matched expectations, leaving him concerned. This situation isn’t new for Satyadev. His career began with similar hurdles. His debut film, Uma Maheshwara Ugra Roopasya, was released directly on OTT due to the pandemic. His next, Thimmarusu, faced the impact of the second COVID wave, with theaters operating at 50% capacity. Bluff Master didn’t find success in theaters but was appreciated later on OTT platforms. Even Krishnamma was delayed for two years before its theatrical release earlier this year, only to hit OTT within a week. Despite his role as an antagonist in Godfather alongside Chiranjeevi, Satyadev didn’t gain the expected opportunities. With Zebra, he hopes to break this cycle and has earnestly appealed to audiences to support the film in theaters. Is Zebra Worth Watching? Director Eashvar Karthik weaves a story about financial crimes in the banking sector, intertwined with the world of gangsters. Satyadev shines as Surya, a bank relationship manager, delivering a compelling performance. The story revolves around Surya’s struggles as he becomes entangled in a 5-crore bank fraud, with a gangster villain hunting him down. While the storyline holds intrigue, certain elements, like the villain’s obsession with a relatively small amount (for a crime lord), feel unrealistic. The lack of gripping moments in some parts is a downside. However, the film’s freshness and appeal to fans of thrilling dramas make it a worthwhile watch. What’s the Story? Surya (Satyadev), a middle-class bank relationship manager, works at the Bank of Trust. He secretly admires his coworker Swathi (Priya Bhavani Shankar). One day, Swathi mistakenly transfers ₹4 lakhs to a fraudulent account. When the recipient refuses to return the money, Surya steps in to help her. This incident escalates unexpectedly, pulling Surya into a larger scam involving ₹5 crores. He eventually crosses paths with Adi (Dhananjay), a notorious and dangerous gangster. How does Surya deal with Adi? How did Adi enter Surya’s life? What consequences does the ₹5-crore fraud bring? Does Surya overcome these challenges? These questions drive the gripping narrative of Zebra.

KA Movie Review : Missing Girls Mystery & Double Role - 'KA' Proves to be Kiran's Career-Best!
KA Movie Review : Missing Girls Mystery & Double Role - 'KA' Proves to be Kiran's Career-Best!
Release Date: October 31, 2024 Cast: Kiran Abbavaram, Nayan Sarika, Tanvi Ram, Achyuth Kumar, Balagam Jayaram, and others Directors: Sandeep, Sujit Producer: Chinta Gopalakrishna Reddy Music: Sam CS Cinematography: Satish Reddy Masam, Daniel Vishwas Kiran Abbavaram is one of Tollywood's talented young heroes. He made a mark with his debut film 'Raja Vaaru Rani Gaaru' and showed his potential. Despite his subsequent seven films, except for 'SR Kalyanamandapam,' not making an impact, many thought his career might have stalled. However, Kiran made a striking comeback with the pan-India project 'KA,' which garnered a lot of hype through its promotions. The trailer raised expectations, and the film has now been released globally as a Diwali gift. Let's see how it fared. Plot Abhinay Vasudev (Kiran Abbavaram) is a young orphan who grows up grieving the loss of his family. From his childhood, he longs for his parents. Escaping from the orphanage and stealing money from his master, Gurunatham, he leaves. He loves reading books and letters, a passion that leads him on a new path. Finally, he arrives in Krishnagiri and joins as a postman in the village. There he falls in love with Satyabhama (Nayan Sarika), who reciprocates his feelings. Meanwhile, girls in the village start disappearing. Who is behind this mystery, and how does Abhinay Vasudev confront this challenge? That forms the rest of the story. What's the Film Like? The film introduces a fresh concept. The narration, thrilling moments, and climax are well-executed. Strong characters and their engaging presentation capture the audience's attention, especially during the interval and climax scenes. The twists add freshness to the narrative. Kiran Abbavaram excels in the dual variations of his role as Abhinay. Nayan Sarika, as the heroine, delivers a commendable performance that captivates the audience. Balagam Jayaram is impressive, and other principal cast members have justified their roles effectively. How's the Direction? Directors Sandeep and Sujit have somewhat succeeded in capturing the essence of the suspense thriller genre. While there is room for improvement in the screenplay, key scenes have been compellingly shot. Although the concept is interesting, some parts of the screenplay feel slow. The main conflict point could have been clearer, and some unnecessary scenes seem to weaken the suspense. These issues somewhat detracted from the film's overall impact. Technical Aspects The film excels technically. The cinematography by Satish Reddy Masam and Daniel Vishwas breathes life into crucial scenes. Sam CS's music adds strength to the film, and the editing is sharp. Chinta Gopalakrishna Reddy's production values are commendable. Final Thoughts Overall, 'KA' engages audiences with its suspense and thriller elements, underpinned by a strong story. The concept and some thrilling elements significantly elevate the film. Fans of suspense thrillers will likely enjoy this movie. Rating: 3.5/5

From Child Artist to National Award Winner: Keerthy Suresh's Inspiring Journey in Cinema
From Child Artist to National Award Winner: Keerthy Suresh's Inspiring Journey in Cinema
Keerthy Suresh is one of those actresses who prioritizes acting over beauty. Belonging to the Tamil industry, she has also gained significant popularity in Telugu films. Her role as Savitri in the movie 'Mahanati' was phenomenal, earning her a National Award. However, her film career has seen many interesting twists and turns. Today (October 17), on the occasion of Keerthy Suresh's birthday, let's look into some special aspects of her life. As a Child Artist The daughter of actors Suresh Kumar and Menaka, Keerthy Suresh sparkled as a child artist in the Malayalam film 'Pilots'. She also appeared as a child artist in the films 'Achaneyanenikkishtam' and 'Kuberan'. Mother as Chiru’s Heroine.. Daughter as Sister In Chiranjeevi's film 'Punnami Naagu', Keerthy's mother Menaka acted as the heroine. Recently, in the movie 'Bhola Shankar', Keerthy played the significant role of Chiranjeevi's sister. Despite the film not doing well, their performances as siblings were well-received. During the shoot in Hyderabad, Chiranjeevi mentioned during movie promotions that he ensured home-cooked meals were sent to Keerthy throughout the filming. Stalled Projects at the Beginning Keerthy Suresh began her career as a heroine with the film 'Geethanjali', starring Malayalam superstar Mohanlal. However, even before this, she had signed three projects as a heroine, which had also started shooting. Unexpectedly, these three projects were halted midway, leading to great disappointment for her, as she mentioned in an interview. Tagged as Iron Leg Early in her career, the halting of three projects, and the failure of films like 'Geethanjali' and 'Ring Master' in Malayalam, and her first Tamil film 'Idhu Enna Maayam' being a disaster, Keerthy was tagged as an 'Iron Leg'. She faced significant trolling but ignored it and went on to succeed in films, establishing herself as a successful heroine. Turning Point with Mahanati Her first Telugu film 'Nenu Sailaja' was a success, which increased her opportunities in Tollywood and Kollywood. Despite being in commercial films, she felt unfulfilled as an actress until 'Mahanati' came along. Her portrayal of Savitri was critically acclaimed, earning her the National Award for Best Actress and becoming an inspiration to other actresses. Her career graph significantly rose after 'Mahanati'. Series of Failures Post-'Mahanati', it was believed that Keerthy's career would have no downturns, and she did receive a series of offers. However, subsequent films like 'Saamy Square', 'Pandem kodi 2', 'Rang De', and 'Annaatthe' failed to meet audience expectations. Her women-oriented films 'Penguin', 'Miss India', and 'Good Luck Sakhi' also failed to make an impact. Director's Intent to Cast Keerthy Following last year's release 'Dasara', which was a massive success, Keerthy made a strong comeback.
