Compared to his previous films, he has shown significant maturity in acting. Overall, it can be said that Rakesh Varre has put in considerable effort for this film. The actor who played the PDSU leader did well. Subbaraju’s performance as an RSS volunteer and Chatrapathi Shekhar’s role as a Naxalite leader are impressive. The rest of the cast performed adequately within their roles.







Direction



So far, Telugu cinema has portrayed Naxalites from a positive angle. However, for the first time, director Virinchi Varma bravely showcases the dark side of Naxalism. He vividly illustrates how Naxalites obstructed governmental progressive works. He also depicts how Naxalites ruthlessly killed volunteers working for the oppressed classes. The hero's reaction to the atrocities committed by the comrades and his ensuing fight against them is intriguingly captured. The director initially focuses on college politics, then touches on mainstream political angles post-interval. He also attempts to define what a true political leader should be through the character of Jithender Reddy. Overall, the director succeeds in clearly and pointedly conveying his message. However, a slow-paced first half, lack of commercial elements, and a predictable storyline can be seen as drawbacks.

Devadarshini, playing the wife of Aravind Swamy, delivers a commendable performance. Having previously only played comedic and supporting roles, she proves her ability to handle a role with depth with ease. Srividya, Rajkiran, and Jayaprakash, although in minor roles, significantly impact the story. The rest of the cast performed well within their roles.

The director, C. Prem Kumar, attempts to convey that for a person to live happily, the presence of a loving individual is as necessary as money and fame. The film starts intriguingly, showing why Satyam left his village. How Did They Perform?



Vikram, as Thangalaan, was outstanding and made the character unforgettable. His portrayal as a tribal person, with the mannerisms and expressions, captivates everyone. This can be marked as another milestone in Vikram's career. Parvathy Thiruvothu, playing Thangalaan’s wife, was adequate in her role. Malavika Mohanan as Aarathi, the tribal leader, delivered the best performance of her career. Her looks and acting scared the audience and stood next to Vikram in terms of impact. Their action scenes together are particularly thrilling. Other actors performed well within their roles.







How's the Direction?



The film 'Thangalaan', primarily revolving around a gold hunt, is subtly portrayed by director Pa. Ranjith was a struggle of an oppressed class during the British era, highlighting racial discrimination. The world and characters created by the director transport the audience to a new realm. The people's attire and societal depiction are immersive. The journey of Thangalaan with the British in search of gold, and the challenges they face en route, build suspense. The scenes before the interval raise expectations for the second half, which, however, feels a bit detached as the story progresses. The pre-climax fight between the British, Thangalaan, and the tribal community leads to confusion, blurring the line between Thangalaan's dreams and reality. Yet, the director delivers a satisfying conclusion in the climax by revealing another dimension of Thangalaan's character.







Technically Speaking



Technically, the film is robust in many aspects. The costumes, makeup, and art departments have outdone themselves for this movie. The music by GV Prakash Kumar also complements the narrative well. The production values are high.

How Did They Perform?



Narne Nithiin in the role of Karthik was captivating. This role, compared to his first film, offered more scope for acting, and his maturity is evident in his expressions and dialogue delivery. He was also impressed with his dance skills. Nayan Sarika, as Pallavi, charmed with her beauty and performance, perfectly portraying a girl from the Godavari region. The comedy delivered by Raj Kumar Kasireddy and Ankith Koya in their roles as friends highlighted the film, particularly Kasireddy’s performance, which is memorable. Mime Gopi and Vinod Kumar performed well within the limits of their roles.







How's the Direction?



Though director Anji chose a familiar story, the way he presented it is appealing. The backdrop of Amalapuram, the innocence and warmth in the people, and the bonds of childhood friends all these elements are well-blended into the narrative. The film picks up pace when the three friends reunite, and from the moment Karthik falls in love, the movie becomes more entertaining. The efforts and troubles his friends undergo to help with his love life bring laughs. The director managed to introduce a twist in the straightforward storyline to make the second half more interesting. He also delivered a good message by involving the elders of both families in the second half. The twist in the climax is surprising. However, the routine story, a love track dominated by comedy, and some illogical scenes are drawbacks of the movie.







Technically Speaking



Technically, the cinematography by Sameer Kalyani is a significant plus for the movie. His camera work showcasing the surroundings of Amalapuram and the rural setting is impressive. Regarding music, the songs breathe life into the film, with Ram Miriyala’s Sufi song being particularly enchanting. The production values are high, with the producers not compromising on the budget.

Performances



Jagapathi Babu, in the role of Purushottam Reddy, captures the audience with his commanding presence and excels in action sequences. Anasuya delivers a compelling performance as teacher Akshika, embodying her character flawlessly. Divi, Sreenath Maganti, and Vashistha Simha also engage well in their roles, with Vashistha Simha's portrayal as the investigative officer being particularly notable. Senior actors Gautami and Kasturi add charm in secondary roles. Kabir, portraying the antagonist, was adequate. The rest of the cast performed well within their roles.







Direction



Director Murali Manohar has attempted to blend environmental themes into a crime and investigative story. The introduction of Anasuya’s character, the love track between Divi and Sreenath Maganti, and the dual murder events are well-handled in the first half. However, the police investigation scenes feel routine and lack logical progression. In the second half, Jagapathi Babu’s entrance as the Forest Man, emphasizing tree conservation and love for nature, brings thought-provoking scenes. Nonetheless, the lack of impactful dialogue means the director’s message doesn’t resonate strongly with the audience. The concept of 'biological memory' is intriguing in the film. A better presentation of the Forest Man episode could have enhanced the impact. Overall, although the movie's concept is interesting, the director fails to effectively convey it to the audience.







Technically



On the technical front, Krishna Saurabh’s background music is a highlight, elevating several scenes effectively. Krishnaprasad’s cinematography is commendable, and the editing is adequate. The production values are high.

Performances



Raj Tarun delivers a commendable performance in dual dimensions as Rachit Ram, convincingly playing both a billionaire and an unidentifiable common man. Hasini Sudheer, as the village girl Ammu, shines beautifully on screen, and the love scenes between Raj Tarun and Ammu are pleasing. Praveen provides comic relief in the friend’s role, while other comedians like Satya and Brahmanandam shine throughout the film.







Direction



We've seen many films where a wealthy young man lives as a common man for various reasons. Director Ram Bhimana has crafted 'Purushothamudu' in a similar vein. The real story begins when the wealthy hero reaches the village of Rayapulanka. The introductions and romantic scenes with the heroine are engaging. The first half is entertaining with village backdrop comedy, and the hero's stance against injustices in the village makes for an appealing interval bang. However, the narrative seems to lose track in the second half, meandering predictably and boringly without any significant twists. The climax, although predictable, is somewhat saved by Prakash Raj's entry and his impactful dialogues. Director Ram Bhimana fails to bring any novelty to the story or narration.







Technically



Musically, Gopi Sundar’s contributions are just passable, with none of the songs being particularly memorable. The background score is decent. PG Vinda’s cinematography is impressive, capturing the essence of village life beautifully. The editing is adequate, and the production values are suitably high for the film.

However, Kamal Haasan's chase sequences and the fight scenes with terrorists are highlights. The social message adds some strength to the film, but the lack of father-daughter sentiment and uninspiring songs from the first film negatively impact this one. Overall, the sequel fails to mesmerize the audience as Senapathi did before.
