ARM Movie Review: A Gripping Performance but a Predictable Plot.

Performances Tovino Thomas impressively portrays three different roles. His portrayal as the heroic Kunjikelu, with significant battle scenes, is captivating. His performance as grandfather Maniyan is also commendable, showing great versatility across his roles, from heroic to serene in Ajay’s character. Each character variation highlights his depth in acting. Krithi Shetty delivers a fine performance as Lakshmi, embodying a 90s girl perfectly. Surabhi Lakshmi’s role is engaging, appearing in a dual capacity that adds to the narrative. Rohini and Harish Uthaman’s characters are pivotal to the storyline. Direction Despite being his debut, director Jithin Lal’s execution of a story intertwined across three generations is clear and engaging. The entry of the legendary Kunjikelu accelerates the pace of the film with his heroics and the boon he asks from the king after saving the kingdom, followed by revelations that add intrigue. The portrayal of Maniyan’s character by the director stands out, particularly how he discovers where the lamp is and plans its theft. The confrontational scenes when Maniyan and Ajayan’s paths cross are emotionally powerful. However, other characters lack impact, a weak love track, predictable plot points, and a feeble climax detract from the film. Technically Technically, the film is high-quality. Thibu’s background score and songs add a fresh flair to the film. Jomon T. John’s cinematography is captivating. The editing is adequate, and the production values are high. Posani Krishna Murali and Sayaji Shinde impressed with their seasoned acting. The rest of the cast was satisfactory. Direction Directed by Peta Trikoti, the film reminds one of Telugu hits like 'Temper' and 'Pataas.' However, the plot lacks novelty, and the narration isn't engaging. The director failed to extract compelling performances corresponding to the story's demands. Archana Ravichandran, though in a brief appearance, managed to entertain. Muthukumar, Sarjano Khalid, and others performed well, particularly those portraying Buddhist monks who were captivating. Direction R. Ajay Gnanamuthu has crafted part 2 as a continuation of the original 'Demonte Colony' story. The film keeps the audience engaged with twists every half-hour from the start. The director skillfully intertwined two stories by introducing a family not present in the first part. The film not only deals with horror but also includes disputes among brothers and step-sisters, adding a bit of entertainment. Debbie’s efforts to save the twin brothers and the ensuing horror elements are thrilling. The screenplay is quite engaging. The climax along with the scenes linking to a potential third part are surprising. However, weak graphics, some dragging scenes, and the pre-climax could be seen as negatives. Technically On the technical front, the cinematographer did an excellent job by not just sticking to the typical dark mode of regular horror films but presenting it in a colorful manner. The graphics department could have done better. The background music was good, enhancing the suspense in the scenes. Editing was decent. The production values are high.
