Several young talents from the Telugu states are emerging on the national scene, with many already having earned recognition and success playing for India. Nitish Kumar Reddy Telugu cricketer Nitish Kumar Reddy burst onto the scene during the 2024 IPL season. Playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad, Nitish has showcased exceptional skills in batting, bowling, and fielding. He has established himself as a dependable all-rounder, particularly shining in critical moments of the game. Background Nitish Kumar Reddy was born on May 26, 2003, in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, into a lower middle-class family. His father, Muthyala Reddy, was previously employed at Hindustan Zinc. Nitish began playing cricket at just five years old. Inspired by watching matches at the Hindustan Zinc company grounds and starting with a plastic ball, he was encouraged by his father to pursue cricket professionally. Ritika fits perfectly into the role of Meenakshi, a young woman struggling to break free from an unsatisfying job to pursue her dreams of directing. Tulasi justly fulfills her role, while Rajendra Prasad once again charms with his comedic timing and emotional delivery. Tanikella Bharani, though in a brief role, makes a significant impact at a crucial moment in the story. Niharika Konidela, Sangith Shoban, and Venkat make memorable appearances in guest roles. How Was the Direction? Director Manasa Sharma has crafted the series in a way that connects well with the youth, particularly software employees, developing each character with a purposeful arc. The finale provided for the characters of Charan Peri and Nayan Sarika is particularly well-done. However, the endings given to Ritika Singh and Akanksha Singh's characters feel overly cinematic and lack naturalness. The comedy track between Rajendra Prasad and Vaibhav Reddy is a significant plus, as are the sentimental scenes involving Rajendra Prasad and Nayan Sarika. The Story In the 1980s, in the border area of Kuppam which connects Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka, Thammireddy and his family, including his brother Basava and son Sharath Reddy, ruled the area harshly, creating chaos and injustice. Subrahmanyam (Sudheer Babu) arrives in this tough environment and starts working as a mechanical lab assistant at a local college. However, he quickly runs into trouble with Sharath Reddy, leading to his suspension. With financial pressures mounting, Subrahmanyam uses his mechanical skills to start making guns illegally. Plot The story of 'Swag' revolves around a lineage during the 1550s, a time marked by struggles for dominance between men and women. Bhavabhuti Maharaj (Sree Vishnu) devises a plan to confine his queen (Ritu Varma) and succeeds, subsequently bringing all the women in the kingdom under his control. As time progresses, Bhavabhuti's lineage continues with only daughters until twin boys are born. Bhavabhuti decides to gift one of his sons to his friend (Sunil), who has no sons. The lineage becomes dispersed over time. Cut to the present, the fortune belonging to the Swaganika lineage is securely kept, waiting to be passed to the rightful heir. Several claimants arrive, declaring themselves the descendants. Who are they really? Does the fortune find its rightful owner? To know more, one must watch the movie. Performances Young actor Sree Vishnu dazzles with his performance, portraying five roles including Bhavabhuti Maharaj, Yabhuti, Bhavabhuti, Vibhuti, and Singa. He connects emotionally with the audience as Yabhuti and entertains as Bhavabhuti. Ritu Varma impresses with her performance. Meera Jasmine, making her re-entry into Telugu cinema after 11 years, adequately delivers her role. Daksha Nagarkar marks her presence with her glamour, though her role lacks depth. Despite the presence of seasoned actors like Ravi Babu and Sunil, their roles do not stand out as the film primarily revolves around Sree Vishnu. The rest of the cast performed adequately. Direction Director Hasith Goli chose an interesting point for the film but the execution appears quite chaotic. The first half of the film leaves the audience puzzled for about 40 minutes until the comedy provides some relief. The director interestingly showcases Bhavabhuti's flashback and leads into the story well. The interval block may seem a bit messy but is passable. The first half overall can be described as average. Coming to the second half, the way Yabhuti's flashback is designed impresses the audience. Some double-meaning dialogues manage to evoke laughter. However, the climax again ends in confusion. The director concludes the film with a line indicating that gender discrimination is a blight on society, but the film feels abruptly ended, leaving a sense of incompleteness. The screenplay is quite confusing and demands full attention to grasp the storyline. Technically On the technical front, Vivek Sagar’s music and background score are highlights, adding value to the film. The cinematography is also commendable. Editing is decent, and the production values are high, offering a rich output despite a modest budget. Rajendra Prasad, Murali Sharma, and Vennela Kishore all do justice to their roles, making for an impressive cast. Direction Director Sandeep Reddy Bandla scored full marks for the storyline. He presents a fresh take, distinct from routine films. He paints a vivid picture of the life of a middle-class man, his struggles after marriage, and all the expenses involved. Pottel has garnered unprecedented publicity for a small-scale cinema. Pan-India director Sandeep Reddy Vanga praised this film by comparing it with Ram Charan's 'Rangasthalam.' The screenwriter Trivikram also raised expectations by lauding the film. Released on Friday (October 25), did this film meet expectations? Did it bring success to Ananya? Let's see in this review. Plot The story unfolds in Gurramgadda village, located at the borders of Maharashtra and Telangana. The villagers conduct a festival for the village deity Balamma once in every cycle and offer sacrifices. It is believed that during this time, the deity possesses Patel (Ajay), the village head, who then prevents the villagers from progressing, particularly in education. On the other side, Pedda Gangadhari (Yuva Chandra) serves as the keeper of the sacrificial animals and secretly educates his daughter. When Patel finds out, he makes the sacrificial animal disappear. He threatens to sacrifice Gangadhari's daughter if the animal isn't found by the festival. What does Gangadhari do to save his daughter? Is he able to bring back the animal? What role does Bujjamma (Ananya Nagalla) play in this story? Performances Ajay, as Patel, delivers a powerhouse performance, surpassing even his impactful role in 'Vikramarkudu.' Newcomer Yuva Chandra excels as Gangadhari, a man desperate to educate his child and improve his village. Despite being his debut, he perfectly fits into his role. Telugu actress Ananya Nagalla gets a substantial role and shines as Bujjamma. Even in a deglamorized role, she delivers an exceptional performance. Singer Noel also got a significant role and did justice to it. Srikanth Iyengar and Chatrapathi Shekhar lived up to their roles, along with other supporting cast members who performed competently within their limits. Direction Director Sahith Mothkuri captures the essence of a rural 1980s setting right from the beginning, immersing the audience into that era within the first 20 minutes. He vividly portrays how the oppressed and weak were subdued during the Patel era, focusing on the prejudices rooted in caste and pride. The introduction of characters, the love story between the hero and heroine, and other scenes are well-handled in the first half. However, the second half seems a bit faltering. The director appears to rely too heavily on the villain's oppression to drive emotional engagement, resulting in scenes that sometimes lack logical continuity. Nevertheless, the director succeeds in connecting the audience with the film's underlying message. Technically On the technical front, the music and cinematography departments have performed well. The songs and background score positively impact the film. However, editing flaws are noticeable, particularly in the second half where scenes drag. The art department excels, recreating the atmosphere of the 1980s with their workmanship.
