'Viswam' Movie Review: Can Gopichand and Srinu Vaitla Break Their Dry Spell?

Vishwa Prasad and Venu Donepudi, with Kavya Thapar as the heroine, is a test to regain success after both have experienced a drought in hits. Released on October 11, did 'Viswam' bring them the success they were hoping for? Let's find out in this complete review. Plot In Hyderabad, a federal minister (Suman) is murdered. Assassins chase a child who witnessed the murder, intending to kill her. However, Gopireddy (Gopichand), who is acquainted with the child’s family, saves her multiple times from danger. There is a reason behind Gopireddy's acquaintance with the family. What is that reason? Why did Gopireddy distance himself from Samaira (Kavya Thapar) whom he met in Italy? Who really is Gopireddy? Why is he trying to save the child? What is Gopireddy's background? To find out, one must go to the theaters. Performance Actor Gopichand captivates with his settled acting and impresses in action sequences, proving his comedy timing once again with 'Viswam'. However, his role does not offer much variety compared to his previous films; it feels quite routine. Heroine Kavya Thapar doesn’t have much scope in acting but scores well on the glamour front. Naresh, Vennela Kishore, Sunil, and Rahul Ramakrishna bring laughter in the film, especially in the train episode. Other characters have performed well within their roles. Direction Having directed blockbusters like 'Anandam', 'Sontham', 'Venky', 'Dhee', 'Ready', and 'Dookudu', Srinu Vaitla had lost his track recently. Recognizing his strengths and weaknesses, he brought 'Viswam', a mix of action and comedy, back to the audience. However, choosing an outdated story for this film could be seen as a drawback. Punches and the comedy track are the strengths of the film, particularly the sequences involving Vennela Kishore and Prithvi that are sure to leave the audience in splits. The Italy track and the villain’s character feel weak. The hero-heroine love track also feels repetitive. However, the interval scene and the climax manage to engage. Technically On the technical front, Chetan Bharadwaj’s music is decent with two or three good songs, and the background score elevates the scenes well. K.V. Guhan’s cinematography is also commendable. Editing by Amar Reddy could have been sharper. The production values are high, giving each scene a rich look. Other significant characters are portrayed by Makarand Deshpande, Raja Raveendra, and Pragathi. The film, however, has been embroiled in scandal, with Raj Tarun's ex-girlfriend Lavanya accusing him of infidelity and being romantically involved with Malvi Malhotra. Released on August 2, amidst these controversies, "Thiragabadara Saami" has generated significant interest. How did the film fare, and was it able to engage the audience? Let's explore in this review. Plot Giri (Raj Tarun) is a very timid person who is afraid of everything and generally unresponsive to his surroundings. In contrast, Shailaja (Malvi Malhotra) is bold and aggressive. She doesn't hesitate to fiercely deal with anyone who teases her. A romance develops between these two with very different personalities. But how does Giri cope with controlling Shailaja? What challenges do their love face? Why did the usually calm Giri have to fight back? What did he do to win his love? You'll have to watch the movie to find out. Performances Hero Raj Tarun has fully immersed himself in the role of Giri. Initially portrayed as an innocent, he later transforms into a lover who fights for his beloved against all odds, showing great variation in two dimensions. Particularly in action sequences, Raj excels, showcasing an intensity never seen before in his career. Malvi Malhotra perfectly embodies Shailaja, making a strong impression in her Telugu film debut. The on-screen chemistry between Raj Tarun and Malvi Malhotra works very well. Second heroine Mannara Chopra also delivers an outstanding performance. John Vijay, Raghubabu, Ankita Thakur, Pragathi, and Raja Raveendra do their roles effectively. Direction Director A.S. Ravi Kumar has crafted this film as a love and action entertainer. The first half smoothly progresses with the introduction of the hero and heroine and their love track, entertaining with comedy arising from Shailaja dominating Giri. Their chemistry ensures that the first half never drags. A twist at the interval heightens interest for the second half, which is filled with hero elevations and action sequences, keeping the audience engaged. However, some scenes might feel boring, and certain fight scenes seem over-the-top for Raj Tarun's persona, lacking logical connection. Emotional scenes also did not resonate as well. Those looking for a solid action entertainer will enjoy "Thiragabadara Saami." Technically... On the technical front, the background music provided by JB is a significant asset, elevating the action sequences to another level. However, the songs are not particularly memorable. The cinematography is also commendable, and the editing is adequate. The production values are high.
