Star directors like Rajamouli, Trivikram, Sukumar, and Koratala Siva prefer working with top-tier heroes, which, fans argue, does injustice to stars like Vijay Deverakonda and Nani. The exclusion by star directors reportedly prevents these actors from achieving pan-Indian success. Even though they release films with new directors at a pan-India level, they don't achieve the expected results. Hero Nani faced this with his project 'Saripodhaa Sanivaaram,' planned for a pan-India release but still not released in Hindi. Fans suggest that despite having talent, the lack of star power beyond Tollywood is a disadvantage for Nani.

The Performances



Satyadev shines once again in his role as Surya, proving his mettle as an actor. He seamlessly portrays a character that combines comedy, action, romance, and emotion. His performance elevates the film, but Dhananjaya also leaves a strong impression. As Aadi , Dhananjaya embodies power and menace, dominating the screen in several sequences. In some scenes, he even overshadows Satyadev. Priya Bhavani Shankar plays a significant role and performs convincingly, while Jennifer adds glamour to the narrative. Director Eashvar Karthic skillfully handles the banking-related content, delivering a gripping narrative with a strong screenplay. His past experience as a bank employee adds authenticity to the storytelling. The film effectively exposes the fraudulent practices within the banking system, though certain aspects lack conviction. For instance, the protagonist earning ₹5 crores within four days feels implausible, and resolving a ₹100 crore problem with just an email stretches logic. However, for audiences willing to overlook such inconsistencies, Zebra offers an engaging experience. The intense battle between Satyadev and Dhananjaya, along with Satya’s comedy and impactful dialogues, serve as major highlights.



Technical Aspects



From a technical standpoint, Zebra impresses. Ravi Basrur’s background score is a significant asset, especially elevating the action sequences. However, the songs fail to leave a lasting impression. Sathya Ponmar’s cinematography captures the narrative’s essence beautifully, while the editing is adequate. The art department excels in recreating the bank setting, and the production values are top-notch.

Performances



Raj Tarun delivers a commendable performance in dual dimensions as Rachit Ram, convincingly playing both a billionaire and an unidentifiable common man. Hasini Sudheer, as the village girl Ammu, shines beautifully on screen, and the love scenes between Raj Tarun and Ammu are pleasing. Praveen provides comic relief in the friend’s role, while other comedians like Satya and Brahmanandam shine throughout the film.







Direction



We've seen many films where a wealthy young man lives as a common man for various reasons. Director Ram Bhimana has crafted 'Purushothamudu' in a similar vein. The real story begins when the wealthy hero reaches the village of Rayapulanka. The introductions and romantic scenes with the heroine are engaging. The first half is entertaining with village backdrop comedy, and the hero's stance against injustices in the village makes for an appealing interval bang. However, the narrative seems to lose track in the second half, meandering predictably and boringly without any significant twists. The climax, although predictable, is somewhat saved by Prakash Raj's entry and his impactful dialogues. Director Ram Bhimana fails to bring any novelty to the story or narration.







Technically



Musically, Gopi Sundar’s contributions are just passable, with none of the songs being particularly memorable. The background score is decent. PG Vinda’s cinematography is impressive, capturing the essence of village life beautifully. The editing is adequate, and the production values are suitably high for the film.

Performances



In his role as Bunny, Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan delivers a solid performance, excelling in action sequences. However, it is Samantha who truly shines in the series. Her acting, alongside her prowess in fight scenes, stands out. She skillfully portrays a secret agent, a lover, and a mother, offering a feast for the eyes in her romantic scenes with Varun Dhawan. Just like in the 'Family Man' series, she also sizzles in hot scenes. The series largely revolves around the screen presence of Varun and Samantha. Samantha captivates with her glamour, while young Kashvi Majmundar profoundly influences the storyline with her emotional performance. Kay Kay Menon, Simran, and the rest of Bunny's team do their roles.







Direction



While 'Citadel: Honey Bunny' doesn't offer much novelty in terms of storyline, the way it is presented and the screenplay are commendable. The directors Raj &amp; DK have cleverly divided each episode into two parts, spanning the years 1992 and 2000, which adds intrigue. They've managed to clearly present the connections between the characters across the timelines without confusion. While the first two episodes are mostly introductory, the story picks up from the third episode. The struggle between Honey-Bunny and the villain gang to seize a world-dominating armored object is captivating. However, the lack of thrilling elements on par with 'Family Man,' the absence of twists, and episodes lasting over 50 minutes each are drawbacks.







Technically..



On the technical front, all departments have performed well. Aman Pant's background score is notable. Johan Herlein's cinematography is a special attraction, capturing fight and chase scenes that will enthrall action lovers. However, more care could have been taken with the editing. The production values adhered to by Russo and Raj DK are commendable.

How Did They Perform?



Vikram, as Thangalaan, was outstanding and made the character unforgettable. His portrayal as a tribal person, with the mannerisms and expressions, captivates everyone. This can be marked as another milestone in Vikram's career. Parvathy Thiruvothu, playing Thangalaan’s wife, was adequate in her role. Malavika Mohanan as Aarathi, the tribal leader, delivered the best performance of her career. Her looks and acting scared the audience and stood next to Vikram in terms of impact. Their action scenes together are particularly thrilling. Other actors performed well within their roles.







How's the Direction?



The film 'Thangalaan', primarily revolving around a gold hunt, is subtly portrayed by director Pa. Ranjith was a struggle of an oppressed class during the British era, highlighting racial discrimination. The world and characters created by the director transport the audience to a new realm. The people's attire and societal depiction are immersive. The journey of Thangalaan with the British in search of gold, and the challenges they face en route, build suspense. The scenes before the interval raise expectations for the second half, which, however, feels a bit detached as the story progresses. The pre-climax fight between the British, Thangalaan, and the tribal community leads to confusion, blurring the line between Thangalaan's dreams and reality. Yet, the director delivers a satisfying conclusion in the climax by revealing another dimension of Thangalaan's character.







Technically Speaking



Technically, the film is robust in many aspects. The costumes, makeup, and art departments have outdone themselves for this movie. The music by GV Prakash Kumar also complements the narrative well. The production values are high.
