The film ‘True Lover’ stars Manikandan, Sri Gowri Priya, and Kanna Ravi in key roles, directed by Prabhu Ram Vyas. Released in Tamil as ‘Lover’ and received a hit talk, today, it’s released in theaters for Telugu audiences under the name ‘True Lover’. So, how is the film? Did it achieve success in Telugu just like in Tamil? Or not? Let’s find out in this review.

    Plot

Arun (Manikandan) and Divya (Sri Gowri Priya) have been lovers since their college days. While Divya works in a software company, Arun tries to open a coffee shop, spending his life in leisure and becoming habituated to drinking. Unexpected incidents lead to disputes between them. Arun cannot tolerate Divya being close to her colleagues. What happened next? Did Arun and Divya reunite? Or did they part ways? Did the hero’s dream of opening a coffee cafe come true? Or not? That’s the rest of the story.

    Performances

Talking about the performances… Manikandan has delivered a good performance. He effectively portrayed emotional scenes and convincingly played the role of an average lover. His comedy timing is also engaging. Sri Gowri Priya played the role of Divya. The chemistry between the two on screen is appealing. Kanna Ravi and the rest of the main cast have also justified their roles.

    Direction

Taking the theme of modern-day love as the storyline, director Prabhu Ram Vyas has crafted this movie. The script touches on how lovers fight over misunderstandings and trivial issues and reconcile just as quickly. The director has presented realistic situations and the emotional turmoil of the youth effectively. However, although the story is good, the narration feels very simple and slow in places, especially in the second half where the screenplay lacks engagement. Some scenes between the lead pair seem regular, and a few over dramatic scenes turned out to be negative for the film. Overall, while Vyas’s direction is good, it failed to captivate fully.

    Technically..

On the technical front… Music director Sean Roldan’s songs are good, with the background score enhancing certain scenes. Editor Bharath Vikraman could have done a better job in trimming the film. Shreyaas Krishna’s cinematography is captivating. The production values appear high, showing no compromise on the budget.

    Plus Points

    – Story backdrop

    – Performances by Manikandan and Sri Gowri Priya

    – Some scenes that appeal to the youth

    Minus Points

    – Dragged scenes

    – Second half screenplay
