Following the background of the late Chief Minister of united Andhra Pradesh, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s padayatra, the film ‘Yatra’ made its mark. As a sequel, ‘Yatra 2‘ came out, focusing on the current AP CM Jagan. Unlike ‘Yatra’, which was a biopic of YSR, ‘Yatra 2’ specifically targets Jagan. The sequel movie hit the theaters today. Directed by Mahi V. Raghav, did the film manage to impress the audience? What aspects related to Jagan are showcased in the movie? Let’s delve into the review to uncover these details.

    Story

The story is well-known to all (Yatra 2 Movie Review). YSR (Mammootty) fields his son Jagan (Jiiva) as the MP candidate for Kadapa in the 2009 elections. Following YSR’s sudden demise, Jagan embarks on an Odarpu Yatra, defying the ruling party’s orders and reaching out to the people. What challenges does Jagan face from the ruling party during his journey? Under what circumstances does Jagan have to form his party? What events transpire in Jagan’s life post-arrest? How does Jagan overcome adversities to become the CM? This forms the rest of the story.

    Performances

Though Mammootty (Mammootty) appears only in the first 10 minutes as YSR, his performance leaves a mark. Actor Jiiva has completely immersed himself in the role of YSR Jagan. Jiiva perfectly captures Jagan’s mannerisms and attitude, embodying the role without any hesitation. Ashrita Vemuganti, as YSR’s wife Vijayamma, excels in her role. Mahesh Manjrekar as Chandrababu Naidu, Suzanne Bernert as Sonia Gandhi, and Ketaki Narayan as YS Bharathi, along with other cast members, have also made their presence felt.

    Direction

Director Mahi V Raghav, who impressed everyone with ‘Yatra’, has marked his presence in ‘Yatra 2’ as well. Despite being a political biopic, he successfully navigated the story emotionally, achieving success once again. The film uses key political events between 2009-2019 to elevate Jagan’s character. The emotional scenes between father and son in the first half connect well with the audience. However, the second half feels routine due to the regular political stuff, making it seem like just another political movie. Using original visuals related to YSR and Jagan in the film is a plus. Those who have followed the media and Jagan over the past few years might not find the film as exciting. Some scenes appear to be against the TDP.

    Technically

On the technical front, Madhie’s cinematography is impressive. The background music by Santhosh Narayanan adds a lot to the film, especially in emotional scenes and elevations for Jagan’s character. Shravan’s editing is good, and the production values are high.

    Plus Points

    • Jiiva’s performance
    • Emotional scenes
    • Background music

    Minus Points

    • Dragged scenes
