The latest film ‘Family Star,’ starring Vijay Deverakonda and Mrunal Thakur and directed by Parasuram under the production of Dil Raju, was released last Friday amidst high expectations. However, due to mixed reviews, the first day collections significantly dropped, marking the lowest Day 1 collections in Vijay’s career, as disclosed by trade circles. What Were the Weekend Collections?

By the end of the weekend, ‘Family Star’ reportedly garnered Rs. 11.95 crores net in India. The film made Rs. 5.75 crores on the first day, Rs. 3.2 crores on the second day, and Rs. 3 crores on the third day. These figures indicate that the trolls and negative publicity surrounding ‘Family Star’ have indeed impacted its collections.

A Shower of Dollars Overseas

However, the film has received a tremendous response overseas, collecting over half a million dollars in the first three days. The NRI audience has shown great interest in watching the movie, and the makers are confident that overseas collections will increase in the coming days.

Pre-release Business Figures?

With high expectations, ‘Family Star’ did significant pre-release business. The film sold its theatrical rights worldwide for Rs. 43 crores. In Andhra Pradesh and Telangana combined, it registered Rs. 34.50 crores. Telangana (Nizam) accounted for Rs. 13 crores, Rayalaseema (Ceded) Rs. 4.5 crores, and AP Rs. 17 crores. Karnataka and the rest of India contributed Rs. 3 crores, and overseas rights were sold for Rs. 5.5 crores, totaling Rs. 43 crores as announced by trade circles. Hence, ‘Family Star’s break-even target reached Rs. 44 crores. Considering the current collections, it appears challenging for the film to become profitable.
