Tollywood Disaster Sequels: The Top 13 Sequel Films That Failed Despite High Expectations!
Throughout the years, Telugu cinema has produced numerous blockbuster hits, including several sequels. However, not all sequels have lived up to the hype of their predecessors. Many second installments, despite being highly anticipated, were unable to capture the audience's imagination or sustain the fervor of the original movies. This led to a significant letdown for fans who had high hopes upon visiting theaters. Let's explore these films and the leading actors who were part of them. Money Money More Money The Money movie series starring JD Chakravarthy brought loads of laughter to the audience. Money (1993) and Money Money (1994) were both successful hits. However, the sequel 'Money Money More Money' released in 2011 failed to impress the audience and faced a disastrous failure at the box office. Money Money More Money Wallpapers Shankar Dada Zindabad One of Megastar Chiranjeevi's super hit movies is Shankar Dada M.B.B.S. The film, released in 2004, brought good fame to Chiru and was a cash cow. In this context, the sequel 'Shankar Dada Zindabad' was made with a different story but failed to entertain the audience as expected. Kick 2 'Kick' is undoubtedly among the top 5 hits in Ravi Teja's career. Directed by Surender Reddy in 2009, the film was a blockbuster hit. However, its sequel 'Kick 2' released in 2015 failed to achieve expected success and ended up as one of Ravi Teja's flop movies. Sardaar Gabbar Singh 'Gabbar Singh' starring Pawan Kalyan was a massive blockbuster. With high expectations, the sequel 'Sardaar Gabbar Singh' unfortunately couldn't entertain the audience to that extent and ended up as one of Pawan's disaster films in 2016. Manmadhudu 2 'Manmadhudu', starring Akkineni Nagarjuna, is one of the evergreen films that many still enjoy watching. The comedy timing of Nagarjuna and scenes with Brahmi are particularly enjoyed. However, its sequel 'Manmadhudu 2' failed miserably in captivating the audience. Gayam 2 The film 'Gayam', released in 1993 with Jagapathi Babu as the lead and directed by Ram Gopal Varma, was a blockbuster and won six Nandi Awards. Its sequel 'Gayam 2', however, flopped at the box office and completely failed to attract the audience. Praveen Sri directed this sequel released in 2010. Arya 2 'Arya', the first film from the combo of Allu Arjun and Sukumar, was a feel-good love entertainer that brought fame to both Bunny and Sukumar. Its sequel 'Arya 2', however, could not mesmerize the audience to the same extent and only managed to receive mixed reviews. Chandramukhi 2 & Nagavalli In the list of top 5 horror movies in Telugu, 'Chandramukhi' starring Rajinikanth definitely secures a place. The movie was terrifyingly good at its time, and Jyothika, in the role of Chandramukhi, was exceptional. However, the sequels to this movie, 'Chandramukhi 2' and 'Nagavalli', ended up being huge disappointments. While Venkatesh played the lead role in 'Nagavalli', Raghava Lawrence took the lead in 'Chandramukhi 2'. Robo 2 The movie 'Robo', directed by Shankar with Rajinikanth as the lead, achieved an extraordinary success upon its release in 2010. Its magnificent graphics and storyline rained gold at the box office. However, the much-anticipated sequel 'Robo 2', released in 2018, turned all expectations upside down. Bollywood star Akshay Kumar appeared as the antagonist in the movie. Sathya 2 The film 'Sathya', which made Ram Gopal Varma a star director in Bollywood, had a sequel named 'Sathya 2' that failed to replicate the success of its predecessor. Sharwanand starred as the hero in this movie, directed by Ram Gopal Varma. Vennela 1 1/2 The movie 'Vennela', directed by Deva Katta with Raja as the hero, released in 2005 and was a decent success. Vennela Kishore was introduced to the Telugu industry through this film. However, the sequel 'Vennela 1 1/2' which came out years later, was a massive flop. Interestingly, Vennela Kishore himself directed this sequel. Avunu 2 'Avunu', with its unique horror theme, was a small film that achieved big success. It brought good fame to director Ravi Babu. However, its sequel 'Avunu 2' failed miserably at the box office. Mantra 2 'Mantra', one of the unforgettable films done by actress Charmi, was a horror and suspense thriller that achieved massive success upon its release in 2007, directed by Osho Tulasi Ram. However, its sequel 'Mantra 2' dashed all hopes and was a disappointment.
