Performances
In this film, 11 young actors play the lead roles. Sandeep Saroj as Shiva, Trinath Varma as Subbu, Eshwar Rachiraju as William, and Yashwant Pendyala as Surya have all made commendable efforts to engage the audience with their distinct performances. The acting experience of Sai Kumar, Goparaju Raman, and Kancherapalem Kishore adds depth to the story. Prasad Behara's performance as the elder is captivating; he brings much humor to the comedic scenes and deep emotion to the dramatic ones. The first half progresses swiftly with typical Godavari-style comedy, and the interval builds intrigue. In the second half, the focus shifts more towards emotional scenes, though it feels slower compared to the first half. The scenes leading up to the climax offer a satirical take on today's political leaders. The love stories in the film are left somewhat unresolved, the resolution of the reservations issue is abruptly concluded, and some scenes feel unnecessarily stretched, which could be seen as drawbacks.
Technically
On the technical front, Anudeep Dev’s music stands out as a highlight of the film, especially the background score during the festival scenes. Cinematographer Raju’s camera work is commendable. The editing is adequate. The production values are high, showing that Niharika Konidela did not compromise on the budget.

What’s the Story?
Raayan (Dhanush) lives with his two brothers Muthuvel (Sundeep Kishan) and Manickam (Kalidas Jayaram), and sister Durga (Dushara Vijayan). While the younger brother goes to college and studies, Muthuvel often finds himself involved in troubles, drifting without purpose. In the same town, Dorai (Sharvanan) and Seetaram (S.J. Surya) are rowdies heading different gangs. A police officer (Prakash Raj) arrives in town with a vendetta to eliminate the local rowdies. In an unexpected turn of events, Dorai dies, making Raayan a target for Seetaram. Who killed Dorai? Why did Seetaram target Raayan? What did the police officer do? What happened to Raayan’s brothers? Performance
Global star Dhanush, as always, delivered an outstanding performance in the movie. He completely immersed himself in the character of Raayan, shining especially in action sequences and emotional scenes. Sundeep Kishan received a noteworthy role in this film, making a memorable impact. S.J. Surya and Prakash Raj fully justified their characters with their exceptional acting skills. Selvaraghavan, Dushara Vijayan, Aparna Balamurali, and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar also captivated with their performances. Other actors too played their parts well within their limits.
Direction
This film marks Dhanush’s 50th as a director. While the story might seem like a typical revenge drama, Dhanush’s unique direction and screenplay were captivating. He effectively managed the story across three dimensions, impressing with the fight scenes and emotional moments, thereby engaging the audience thoroughly. The spectacular interval bang heightened interest for the second half, where action sequences, emotions, and the climax significantly added to the film’s appeal. However, the routine story, predictable plot elements, and some boring scenes occasionally detracted from the overall experience.
Technically
On the technical front, the music provided by A.R. Rahman was a major asset to the film, elevating the action sequences brilliantly. However, the songs were not particularly memorable. The cinematography was good, and the editing was adequate. Trimming some boring scenes could have added more weight to the film. The production values were very high, with no compromise on spending.

Is the Story of Devara Also Copied?
There were extensive promotions before the release of 'Devara' claiming that its story was adapted from a copyrighted novel. Tamil director Shankar recently accused that he saw key scenes from his copyrighted novel being used in a film, stressing that creators should respect rights and avoid copying without permission, warning of legal actions. However, Shankar did not clarify which film he referred to. But, the buzz on social media suggests that the story of 'Devara' closely mirrors the Tamil novel 'Veera Yug Nayagan,' for which Shankar holds the rights.
Similar Accusations in the Past
This is not the first time Koratala Siva has faced plagiarism accusations. He was also heavily criticized during the release of 'Srimanthudu' with Mahesh Babu. Writer Sharath Chandra even took the matter to court, claiming his story was copied. The issue had created a sensation across the Telugu states back then. In 2012, Sharath had published his story 'Chachentha Prema' in Swati Monthly, and while he was planning to adapt it into a film, he accused Koratala Siva of making 'Srimanthudu' based on his story.
