Bapu is a multi-faceted personality in the Telugu literary and artistic sphere. His illustrations, cartoons, and book covers have become an integral part of Telugu culture. Bapu demonstrated exceptional talent in the film industry as well. He debuted as a director with "Sakshi" (1967). He went on to present classic movies like "Seetha Kalyanam" , "Sri Rama Rajyam" , "Rambantu" , "Sundarakanda" , "Radha Gopalam" , "Mister Pellam" , "Pelli Pustakam" and "Sampoorna Ramayanam" to Telugu audiences. Bapu was known for preparing detailed storyboards for his films, ensuring the final scenes matched his artistic vision. His films like "Mister Pellam" , "Mutyala Muggu" , "Pelli Pustakam" and "Sri Rama Rajyam" were awarded Nandi Awards. In 2013, the Government of India honored him with the Padma Shri Award.
