    In Telugu, Ghantasala is considered a legendary playback singer and music director. He possessed a melodious voice that won hearts far and wide. Ghantasala hailed from a large family but came to prominence due to his immense talent in music. He overcame hardships to achieve excellence in the field of music. His first opportunity as a playback singer in Telugu came through the movie "Swargaseema", which marked a turning point in his career. Songs rendered by Ghantasala in movies like "Balaraju" , "Keelu Gurram" , "Mana Desam" , "Ali Baba 40 Dongalu" , "Chandraharam" , "Sabhash Ramudu" , "Marmayogi" , "Lava Kusa" , "Gundamma Katha" , "Pandava Vanavasam" , "Bhuvana Sundari Katha", and others are still cherished by Telugu music enthusiasts. Ghantasala's renditions of shlokas from the Bhagavad Gita have a spiritual charm that continues to captivate listeners. He is recognized as a playback singer par excellence and, not just that, Ghantasala made an indelible mark as a music director as well. He received Padma Shri, one of India's highest civilian awards, in recognition of his exceptional contribution to music. Even today, after three decades, Ghantasala holds the record for being the only playback singer in Andhra Pradesh to have received the title of Best Playback Singer for a staggering 30 years.
