Young hero Vishwak Sen has already impressed Telugu audiences this year with Gaami and Gangs of Godavari. Now, he returns with Mechanic Rocky, aiming to charm audiences once again. The film, co-starring Meenakshi Choudhary and Shraddha Srinath, was released grandly on November 22 under the direction of Raviteja Mullapudi. Let’s see how the film turned out and whether Vishwak scored a hat-trick.
The Plot
Rocky (Vishwak Sen) drops out of his B.Tech and joins his father Ramakrishna’s (Naresh) garage as a mechanic. Alongside repairing vehicles, he also teaches driving. Maya (Shraddha Srinath) and Priya (Meenakshi Choudhary) join him to learn driving. During his college days, Rocky falls for Priya, but they part ways after he quits his studies. Years later, Rocky meets Priya again. Does he get closer to her? What shocking truths does Rocky discover about Priya? How does Maya influence their lives? Who is Ranki Reddy (Sunil), and what problems does he bring into Rocky’s life? The answers lie in the film.
The Performances
Vishwak Sen delivers yet another settled performance, impressing audiences with his energetic portrayal. His punchlines bring humor and charm to his character. Meenakshi Choudhary and Shraddha Srinath shine in their significant roles, with their chemistry and expressions stealing the spotlight. Their on-screen competition in certain scenes enhances the narrative. Vishwak and Meenakshi’s chemistry works well, and their romantic track is engaging. Supporting actors like Sunil, Naresh, and Harsha Vardhan also have impactful roles, with Harsha Chemudu’s comedy bringing occasional laughs.
Direction
Director Raviteja Mullapudi combines a love triangle with a crime thriller, aiming to connect with today’s audience. While the story has strong elements, excessive commercial touches and unnecessary comedy dilute the impact. The first half focuses on character introductions, love tracks, and songs, making it feel somewhat routine and stretched. However, the second half gains momentum, with unexpected twists and turns that elevate the film. The narrative effectively portrays how middle-class dreams can be exploited by others. Had the first half been more engaging, the film could have become a blockbuster.
Technical Aspects
From a technical standpoint, the film excels. Jakes Bejoy’s background score significantly enhances the storytelling. The cinematography is top-notch, capturing the essence of the film’s mood. However, the editing in the first half could have been sharper. The production values are impressive and align well with the film’s tone.
Strengths
- Vishwak Sen’s performance
- The second half
- Twists and turns
Weaknesses
- A lackluster first half
- Overdone commercial elements
