The Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies (RGUKT-Basara’s IIIT) Admissions Policy has changed. The government has decided to replace the admission policy. As per the new terms, the Polycet rank-based admission pattern will be replaced by the tenth merit-based admission pattern. It is reported that the university is set to release notification of admission within 3–4 days. RGUKT was established in 2008 to provide quality education to poor students in rural areas. From then on, the seats were allotted to the students based on their tenth-grade merit. However, due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, 10th class exams were cancelled by the government in 2020 and 2021. Millions of students are credited with a 10 GPA based on their internal marks.
In 2020, 1,41,383 students secured a GPA of 10.
In 2021, 2,10,647 students secured a GPA of 10.
These flashing results have become a headache for the university board in the allocation of seats. The RGUKT officials have introduced the Polycet entrance test for the admissions into these institutions. The Polycet merit has left a drastic effect on the students from poor communities. Out of a total of 1500 seats in RGUKT, only 200 seats were secured by the government school students. The rest of the seats went to private school students. While in the previous years 95% of the seats were secured by the government school students.
Do you have to pay the fee again for the registration?
The Polycet applications began in May and expired this wednesday. Many students have already registered their applications. But, to their surprise the RGUKT University made a surprise announcement that admissions will be done on the applicants 10th class marks from this year. Many of the aspiring students have already paid the fee and registered for the Polycet, as most of the RGUKT and IIIT come from low income families, now they are worried about the repayment of registration fees. The student unions and parents are expressing their anger about the University’s stern decision.
