The movie ‘Family Star‘, starring Vijay Deverakonda and Mrunal Thakur, is released worldwide today (April 5) amidst grand expectations. Coming from the director Parasuram after the hit ‘Geetha Govindam‘ with Vijay, the movie had set high expectations. Produced by Dil Raju under the banner of Sri Venkateswara Creations, the teaser and trailer had already created a good buzz among the audience. So, did the movie meet those expectations? Did it give another hit for Vijay? Let’s dive into this review and find out.
What is the Story About?
Govardhan (Vijay Deverakonda) is a young man from a middle-class family, shouldering the responsibilities of his joint family. What are the challenges faced by Govardhan’s family due to his brother? How did Indu (Mrunal Thakur), an industrialist, enter his life? How did the love track between them begin? What challenges did Vijay face with her arrival? That forms the story.
How Did They Perform?
Vijay Deverakonda, as usual, steals the show in ‘Family Star’. He lived the character of a middle-class boy, impressing in action, comedy, and emotional scenes alike, entertaining the audience thoroughly. Mrunal Thakur too, in a significant role, captivated the audience with her beauty and acting skills, especially her chemistry with Vijay which turned out to be excellent. Their love track connects well with the youth. The supporting cast including Vasuki, Rohini, Abhinay, Ajay Ghosh, Kota Srinivasa Rao, and Jabardasth Ram Prasad have performed well within their roles.
How About the Direction?
Director Parasuram showcased his prowess once again with ‘Family Star’, crafting it as a perfect family entertainer. He filled the first half with commercial elements while the second half takes a more emotional route, connecting well with the audience. He attempts to highlight how a middle-class family thinks and lives, although the choice of a routine story and the lack of punch in dialogues could be seen as drawbacks. Some scenes felt dragged as if watching a serial, and at times, the natural essence of the family’s struggles seemed missing. Overall, the movie will connect with family audiences.
Technically Speaking
On the technical front, Gopi Sundar’s music, which was a significant plus in their previous combo ‘Geetha Govindam’, only lived up to the expectations in this movie except for one or two songs. The background score is passable—the cinematography by K.U. Mohanan is splendid, making the film vibrant. Tighter editing could have made the film crisper. The production values are high, with no compromise from producer Dil Raju.
