  • Akhil Agent Movie Review: Has Akhil Delivered a Hit with “Agent” or Is It Another Disaster?

Akhil Akkineni has returned to the big screen after almost a year. He stars in a mass action entertainer directed by Surender Reddy. The spy thriller has created quite a buzz at the box office. Will Akhil’s long-awaited solid hit come true? How is the movie? Did Sakshi Vaidya impress in her debut as the heroine? Will Mammootty’s role captivate the audience? Let’s find out in this review.

    Director: Surender Reddy

Cast: Akhil, Sakshi Vaidya, Mammootty, Dino Morea

    Music: Hiphop Tamizha

    Cinematography: Rasool Ellore

    Story?

Ricky (Akhil) desperately wants to become a ‘Raw’ agent. However, his attempts always fail. He then encounters Devil (Mammootty), who works for ‘Raw’ and is on a mission to take down the mafia don, The God (Dino Morea), who has started a syndicate in India. What did Akhil do to achieve his goal? That’s the story.

    How is it?

The director introduces the characters in the first half, including Mammootty as a ‘Raw’ agent, Dino Morea as a syndicate boss, and Akhil as an aspiring ‘Raw’ agent. The love track between the hero and heroine doesn’t grab the audience’s attention much. We’ve already seen the hero and heroine getting together and separating in many movies, so it feels familiar.

The movie picks up after the interval when the actual story begins. Akhil’s entry into ‘Raw’ as an agent creates hype, and the interval bang with intense action sequences is fantastic.

However, the love story between the lead pair could have been better, and the film’s pace suffers because of it. Despite these drawbacks, the performances by Akhil, Sakshi Vaidya, and Mammootty are commendable, and the action sequences are sure to entertain the audience.

The second half of the film fell into a routine. The hero’s efforts to take down the syndicate, and their targeting him in return, made the scenes quite dull. Even though the movie culminates in high-voltage action scenes, because of the regular story it doesn’t create the excitement that it should create. The climax doesn’t make much of an impact either. However, the action sequences are next-level.

    Performances

Akhil Akkineni is the film’s biggest asset. He completely transformed himself for his role. This young hero put in a lot of effort to make his character shine. His look as a wild agent is well-settled, and his acting has improved. He successfully executed the director’s vision. However, there might be a feeling Akhil may need to wait for action movies, who is known for playing a lover boy.

Senior actor Mammotty, as always, captivated the audience with his performance. He did justice to his role and portrayed a secret agent with finesse. The heroine, Sakshi Vaidya, didn’t have much screen time, but she appeared glamorous. She played the typical character found in commercial films. Bollywood actor Dino Morea made his Tollywood entry, but his character wasn’t memorable. Still, he managed to impress within his limits.

    Technical Aspects:

Director Surender Reddy, who delivered hits like Dhruva and Sye Raa, failed to meet expectations with this film. However, this movie contains some of his best action sequences. The film is visually rich, but the story and narrative could have been better. The main drawback is the story by Vakkantham Vamsi, which is very routine.

Another minus point for Agent is the music. Hip-hop Tamizha couldn’t deliver a chartbuster. None of the songs managed to impress the audience. The background score was just average. The cinematography, on the other hand, is excellent. The director brilliantly captured every point he had in mind. The way fight scenes and situations were portrayed is commendable.

The editing could have been better. A tighter edit would have enhanced the film. The movie’s highlight is its production values. Overall, Agent is a visually stunning film with impressive action sequences but is let down by its weak story and commercial elements.
