Starring Satyadev, Athira Raj, Archana Iyer, and Raghu Kunche, the film “Krishnamma,” directed by V.V. Gopala Krishna, premiered under the banner of Arunachal Creations by Krishna Kommalapati. It hit theaters on May 10. Promotional materials and trailers had heightened audience expectations prior to its release. Did the film meet these expectations? Did it secure another success for Satyadev? Let’s delve into this review to find out.
Story
Set in Vinchipeta, Vijayawada, the story revolves around Bhadra (Satyadev), Koti (Laxman Meesala), and Shiv (Krishna Teja), three inseparable friends who grew up as orphans, supporting each other. Previously involved in criminal activities, they resolve to turn over a new leaf. Bhadra makes a living driving an auto-rickshaw, but a sudden need for Rs. 3 lakhs compels them to contemplate one last crime to resolve their financial crunch. This decision plunges them into deeper trouble, resulting in their incarceration, and tragically, one of them meets an untimely death. The film unravels who is responsible for the friend’s demise and who orchestrated their imprisonment.
Performance Review
Satyadev, renowned for his distinctive acting style, offers a riveting performance as Bhadra, shining especially in emotional and action scenes. Athira Raj, the female lead, finds herself in a constrained role with limited opportunities for showcasing her talent. Laxman Meesala and Krishna Teja Reddy, portraying the friends, give engaging performances. Nandagopal Parwale, in the role of a police officer, delivers a satisfactory performance, while Raghu Kunche’s contribution is also commendable. The supporting cast performs effectively within their respective roles.
Direction Review
Director V.V. Gopala Krishna shaped this film as a revenge drama. While the plot may not introduce new elements, with many similar stories already in circulation, the screenplay successfully engages the audience. The director’s method of drawing viewers into the narrative is praiseworthy. The first half introduces a harrowing murder and explores the deep emotional bonds among the friends. This, however, results in a slower pace that some might find lagging. The narrative gains momentum in the second half as the hero focuses on avenging their friend’s death, infusing the film with intrigue. A more robust climax would have further elevated the impact of the movie. Despite some shortcomings, V.V. Gopala Krishna secures a commendable success in his directorial endeavors.
Technical Aspects
Technically, the film excels in cinematography, with Sunny Kurrapati’s work creating a visually pleasing ambiance on screen. Kala Bhairava’s music is modest, yet his background score stands out impressively. The editing is proficient, ensuring the film’s narrative flows smoothly. Additionally, the production values are notably high, contributing to the film’s overall quality.
Plus Points:
– Satyadev’s acting
– Engaging screenplay
– Second half dynamics
Minus Points:
– Conventional revenge drama
– Some scenes feel tedious
