The Central Government has prohibited the use of single-use plastics. The new law will go into effect on July 1. According to a press release from the Ministry of Environment, Forestry, and Climate Change, control rooms at the national and state levels are required for the effective enforcement of the ban on single-use plastics. The control rooms will also keep an eye on the illegal production and distribution of single-use plastics.
The Ministry of Environment, Forestry, and Climate Change stated about the terrible effects of plastic pollution on our environment “Single-use plastic waste is widely acknowledged to be harmful to both terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, particularly those in marine regions. Eliminating pollution caused by single-use plastics is now a major environmental challenge for all nations around the world.” It also published a list of plastic items that will be prohibited beginning July 1.

- Earbuds with plastic sticks
- Plastic sticks for balloons
- Plastic flags
- Candy sticks
- Ice-cream sticks
- Polystyrene (Thermocol) for decoration
- Plastic plates
- Cups
- Glasses
- Cutlery such as forks, spoons, knives, straw, trays
- Wrapping or packaging films around sweet boxes, invitation cards, cigarette packets
- Plastic or PVC banners less than 100 micron, stirrers
