In Telugu states, the Sankranthi holiday season is the busiest for movies. Many popular heroes have made their biggest hits during this season over the years. Let’s look at Tollywood’s Sankranthi winners over the past seven years.
2015 – ‘Gopala Gopala’
Venkatesh and Pawan Kalyan’s ‘Gopala Gopala’ and Shankar’s ‘I (Manoharudu) have clashed at the box office for 2015 Sankranthi season. ‘Gopala Gopala’ has emerged as a Superhit while ‘I’ was declared as the average grosser.
2016 – ‘Nannaku Prematho,’ ‘Soggade Chinni Nayana,’ ‘Express Raja’
NTR’s ‘Nannaku Prematho,’ Nagarjuna’s ‘Soggade Chinni Nayana,’ Balakrishna’s ‘Dictator,’ and Sharwanand’s ‘Express Raja’ have been released during 2016 Sankranthi. Among the four releases, ‘Nannaku Prematho,’ ‘Soggade Chinni Nayana,’ and ‘Express Raja’ emerged as superhits, while ‘Dictator’ ended up as a disaster.
2015 – ‘Khaidi No- 150,’‘Gautamiputra Satakarni’
Chiranjeevi made his comeback in 2017 with ‘Khaidi No.’ Chiru’s flick clashed with Balakrishna’s ‘Gautamiputra Satakarni’ and ‘Shatamanam Bhavati.’ Both Chiranjeevi and Balakrishna’s movies achieved success. Sharwanand’s ‘Shatamanam Bhavati’ has also performed well.
2018 – ‘Jai Simha’
Pawan Kalyan’s ‘Agnathavasi’ clashed with Balakrishna’s ‘Jai Simha’ for 2018 Sankranthi. ’Jai Simha’ declared as a hit while ‘Agnathavasi’ crashed at the box office.
2019 – ‘F2’
Venkatesh and Varun Tej’s ‘F2’ emerged as the biggest hit of 2019. On the other hand, Balakrishna’s ‘NTR’ and Ram Charan’s ‘Vinaya Vidheya Rama’ ended up as disasters.
2020 – ‘Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo’
Mahesh Babu and Allu Arjun locked horns for 2020 Sankranthi with their films ‘Sarileru Neekevvaru’ and ‘Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo.’ Bunny’s film emerged as a blockbuster while Mahesh Babu’s film was also declared as a super hit.
2019 – ‘Krack’
Ravi Teja’s ‘Krack’ emerged as the first super hit in the post covid era. Ram’s ‘Red’ was also released and earned good box office revenue. Bellamkonda ‘Alludu Adhurus’ ended as box office dud.
2022 – ‘Bangarraju’
Nagarjuna and Nagachaitanya’s ‘Bangarraju’ bagged the 2022 Sankranthi winner title. Other films ‘Rowdy boys’ and ‘Hero’ failed to impress the audience.
2023 – ?
Megastar Chiranjeevi and Balakrishna set to lock horns again for the 2023 Sankranthi season. Chiru’s ‘Waltair Veerayya’ will clash with NBK’s ‘Veera Simha Reddy.’ Akkinei Akhil’s ‘Agent’ is also expected to arrive during the same time. Along with these biggies two big tamil dubbed films Vijay’s ‘Varasudu’ and Ajith’s ‘Thunivu’ also are in the race.
