  • Vijay’s ‘The Goat’ Makes a Strong Impact with First-Day Collections Despite Mixed Reviews

Tamil superstar Vijay stars in the latest action thriller ‘The Goat’ (The Greatest Of All Time), directed by Venkat Prabhu. Meenakshi Chaudhary plays the leading lady, while Sneha, Laila, Prashanth, and Prabhu Deva have significant roles. This film, developed with de-aging technology, has garnered high expectations as it is rumored to be Vijay’s final movie before his political entry. It was released worldwide on Thursday (September 5) and received mixed reactions in the Telugu states, but it was a hit among Vijay’s fans in Tamil Nadu. Let’s see how the movie performed on its first day.

    Day 1 Collections

Matching the high expectations, ‘The Goat’ (The Greatest Of All Time) raked in impressive collections on its first day. In India alone, the film is estimated to have grossed over ₹55 crores, with a net collection of ₹43 crores. Tamil Nadu alone contributed a gross of ₹38.3 crores. The Telugu states accounted for ₹3 crores and Hindi markets brought in ₹1.7 crores in gross collections. The worldwide gross is expected to surpass ₹80 crores on the first day. However, according to trade estimates, ‘The Goat’ could not surpass the record set by Vijay’s previous film ‘Leo’, which collected ₹148.5 crores on its first day.

    What’s ‘The Goat’ Like?

Director Venkat Prabhu’s story does not present much novelty. Movies featuring a hero working in defense sectors and villains raising the hero’s son only to use him against the hero have been seen before. However, the scenes depicting the son’s revenge feel intriguing. The first half mainly introduces the hero and other characters, progressing predictably until the pre-interval. The interval scene raises interest for the second half, which largely unfolds as expected, but the climax is crafted to captivate. The twists in the second half are sure to surprise the audience. The Tamil essence in comedy and dialogues might not appeal much to the Telugu audience, but Vijay’s fans will likely find the film immensely engaging.

    The Plot

Gandhi (Vijay), a special anti-terrorism squad officer, conducts various successful missions with his teammates Sunil (Prashant), Ajay (Ajmal), and Kalyan Sundaram (Prabhu Deva). However, he keeps his job a secret from his wife Anu (Sneha). During one mission abroad, his five-year-old son dies. Believing her husband to be responsible, Anu distances herself from Gandhi. Distraught, Gandhi leaves the force. Years later, on a trip to Moscow, he encounters his son Jeevan (Vijay), whom he thought was dead, alive. Overjoyed, he brings him back to India. From then on, Gandhi’s acquaintances start dying one by one. Who is responsible for these deaths? How did his presumed-dead son come back? How does Gandhi stop the killings? These questions form the crux of the story.
