Balakrishna is the sixth child of the NTR, Basavatarakam couple. Born on June 10, 1960 in Chennai. He spent all his childhood in Chennai. With the relocation of the Telugu film industry to Hyderabad, the NTR family settled here in Hyderabad. Balakrishna established himself as one of the most loved and respected stars of Indian cinema with a glorious film career spanning over 4 decades.

Balakrishna grew up watching his father, NTR’s movies from an early age and developed a passion for acting. Balakrishna’s passion for acting caught the attention of his father, who later enrolled him in an acting school. Balakrishna was trained in Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi.

He first appeared on the silver screen in 1974 at the age of 14 as a child actor in the film Tatamma Kala, which was directed by NTR.

His mother, Basawatarakam, died of cancer. As a responsible son, he started the Cancer Hospital named after her.

In 1982, at the age of 22, he married Vasundhara Devi. They have three children. Brahmini, Mokshajagna, Tejaswini.
