The Government of Telangana’s ambitious project, a grand statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, has been successfully completed. The largest Ambedkar statue in the country, standing proudly at 125 feet, has been erected near the upcoming Assembly Building on the banks of the Hussain Sagar Lake in Hyderabad. The government of Telangana had previously declared its intention to transform this area into a Knowledge Hub. This massive Ambedkar statue is part of that vision, and now it’s time to take a look at the unique features and the efforts behind its construction.
Foundation Ceremony
The government of Telangana resolved to construct the largest Ambedkar statue in the country in 2016. Accordingly, they conducted the foundation ceremony on April 14th of the same year. The plan included the construction of a 125-foot tall statue within an 11.80-acre Ambedkar Memorial complex, with an estimated cost of Rs. 146.50 crores. The construction firm KPC Projects Limited was responsible for building the statue.
Special Features
The Ambedkar statue has been erected within a two-acre area. The height of the pedestal is 50 feet, making the total height of the monument 172 feet. The construction company has revealed that the weight of the statue is approximately 465 tons. To build the statue, 791 tons of metal and 96 metric tons of other materials were used. During the construction of this statue, an average of 425 laborers worked daily.Visitors to the area can’t help but be captivated by the grandeur and significance of this impressive monument, a testament to Dr. Ambedkar’s contributions and legacy in India.
Museum
A museum is being established within the Ambedkar Memorial complex. They plan to showcase significant events from Ambedkar’s life. In addition to this, the Telangana government is working on setting up a gallery within the museum. A dedicated committee has been appointed by the Department of Culture to collect remarkable pictures related to Ambedkar’s life events. This committee is currently immersed in the museum’s establishment work.
Library
A library will also be established within the Ambedkar Memorial complex. The same committee from the Department of Culture is responsible for overseeing this task. Committee members are working diligently to determine which books related to Ambedkar’s life should be made available. The Telangana government has set a goal to complete the museum and library work within three months.
Landscaped Area
Authorities are making efforts to create a pleasant environment around the memorial. A 2.93-acre vacant area has been set aside solely for greenery. This area has been named “Smruti Vanam.” It features a rock garden, landscaping, plantation, water fountain, and sandstone. Almost 450 cars can be parked in Smruti Vanam, and there is also a dedicated bike parking facility.
