Why ‘Gangs of Godavari’ Keeps Getting Postponed?

Vishwak Sen recently enthralled Telugu audiences with his portrayal of Aghora Shankar in the film ‘Gaami‘, known for its distinctive plot. His upcoming movie, ‘Gangs of Godavari‘, is now preparing for release. Until recently, there had been no updates, but the scheduling of a teaser release date has redirected attention to this film. Initially, ‘Gangs of Godavari’ was set to release last year. Despite having a set release date, the film has faced several postponements. Let’s explore the reasons behind these delays.

Vishwak’s Impatience with Postponements!

‘Gangs of Godavari’, directed by Krishna Chaitanya, known for ‘Chal Mohan Ranga‘, will star Neha Shetty as the lead actress. The producers have officially set the release date for May 17, and the teaser is scheduled to be released at 4:01 PM on April 27. Originally, this film was slated for a December 2023 release. However, due to competition from films like ‘Hi Nanna‘ and ‘Extra Ordinary Man‘, the release was postponed. At that time, Vishwak Sen had stated he wouldn’t promote the film if it failed to release as scheduled, leading to controversy.

Producer’s Reaction!

At the ‘Adikeshav‘ promotion event, producer Naga Vamshi addressed Vishwak Sen’s earlier remarks, explaining that Vishwak was pushing for the film to release on December 8. He acknowledged that ‘Operation Valentine’, featuring Varun Tej, was set as a competitor during the same period. However, unexpected entries like ‘Hi Nanna’, ‘Extra Ordinary Man’, and ‘Salaar’ prompted them to rethink their release strategy. Naga Vamshi suggested that Vishwak’s comments were a reaction to this intense competition. With the film still in production, they opted to collaborate on setting a new release date. Despite these discussions, ‘Gangs of Godavari’ experienced further delays due to various factors.

Item Song Delay

While the producers planned to release ‘Gangs of Godavari’ earlier this year, delays in filming arose during the production of the item song. Initially, Eesha Rebba was selected to perform the item song and shooting had started. However, she was later replaced by Ayesha Khan. Additionally, a personal tragedy in the family of composer Ilaiyaraaja, involving his son Yuvan Shankar Raja, also contributed to the delays. After the death of his sister on January 25, Yuvan was unable to participate in the film activities, which further delayed the technical aspects of the production.

Is This Time Delayed Due to Vishwak?

Determined to release on May 17, the film unit declared a new release date during the Maha Shivaratri festival. However, Vishwak had already announced that he would present ‘Gaami’ to the audience at the same festival, prompting yet another postponement by the ‘Gangs of Godavari’ team. The promotion of the film is now in full swing. Recently, the team released the lyrical video of the item song ‘Mohta’ featuring Ayesha Khan, and they have also shared an update on the teaser. Plans are underway to release the trailer soon.
