Rathnam Movie: Vishal Dominates with Electrifying Action Sequences
Cast: Vishal, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Samuthirakani, Ramachandra Raju, Yogi Babu, Murali Sharma, Harish Peradi, Mohan Raman, Vijay Kumar Director: Hari Music: Devi Sri Prasad Cinematography: M. Sukumar Editing: T.S. Jai Producers: Karthikeyan Santhanam, Alankar Pandian Release Date: April 26, 2024 Vishal, the action hero, collaborates once again with mass director Hari for their hat-trick film 'Rathnam'. After the grand successes of their previous films 'Bharani' and 'Pooja', expectations were sky-high for this third installment. Priya Bhavani Shankar joins Vishal, alongside Samuthirakani, Yogi Babu, and Murali Sharma in pivotal roles. Released on April 26, the big question is: How does this film stack up? Has Vishal scored another hit? Did 'Rathnam' live up to the hype? Let’s delve into this review. What's the Story? In the narrative, Rathnam (Vishal) resides at the border between Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. He adores Janani (Priya Bhavani Shankar) with all his heart. However, their life takes a perilous turn as gangsters plot to kill her. What steps does Rathnam take? How does he protect Janani from their wrath? Why are the gangsters after Janani? What finally unfolds? Explore the answers in the story. Performance Analysis As always, Vishal shines in his role, particularly excelling in the action scenes and capturing hearts in emotional moments. Priya Bhavani Shankar impresses, particularly in her intense emotional scenes with Vishal. Yogi Babu brings laughter once again with his trademark comedy. Gautam Menon, Samuthirakani, and Murali Sharma effectively bring their characters to life with strong performances. Direction? Director Hari has crafted this film with a focus on both family and mass audiences, featuring electrifying action sequences and delivering a compelling message. The first half of the film smartly introduces Vishal's character and weaves significant emotional scenes involving Priya Bhavani Shankar. However, the romantic subplot between the leads lacks depth and is more stylistically cinematic. Yogi Babu’s comedy, steeped in Tamil cultural nuances, might not fully resonate with the Telugu audience. The screenplay is somewhat weaker compared to Hari's earlier works. Nonetheless, the film is packed with elements designed to captivate Vishal's fans and mass audiences, adding a positive touch to the movie. Technical Department On the technical front, all departments have performed commendably. Notably, the music and songs by Devi Sri Prasad are standout features, enhancing the film significantly. His background score for both the emotional and action scenes greatly elevates these sequences. M. Sukumar’s cinematographer is engaging, and T.S. Jai’s editing is solid. The production values are high, ensuring a quality cinematic experience. Plus Points: Vishal's compelling actingThrilling action sequencesCaptivating music Minus Points: Lack of substantial content in the storyLackluster screenplay Rating from Telugu.yousay.tv: 2.5/5

Ponniyin Selvan-2 Movie Review: Another Artistic Masterpiece from Mani Ratnam!
Ponniyin Selvan-2 Movie Review: Another Artistic Masterpiece from Mani Ratnam!
Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan, starring Tamil superstars, has received mixed responses at the box office. Some appreciated it, while others found it difficult to understand. However, the director has raised many questions in the film, and Ponniyin Selvan-2 seeks to answer them. With extensive promotions since last month, the film has finally been released. Did the movie succeed? Did Mani Ratnam create magic? Let's review. Director: Mani Ratnam Cast: Vikram, Aishwarya Rai, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha, Sobhita, Aishwarya Lekshmi Music: A.R. Rahman Cinematography: Ravi Varman What's the Story? The first part ends with the conspiracy to assassinate Chola Prince Arunmozhi (Jayam Ravi). Did he really die? Will Vallavarayan (Karthi), who set out to uncover the conspiracies of the rival kings, save him? What did Aditya Karikalan (Vikram) do upon hearing the news of his brother's death? Why does Nandini (Aishwarya Rai) wish to witness the end of the Cholas? Ponniyin Selvan-2 is the answer to all these questions. How is it? The movie starts with a voiceover by a megastar. The story unfolds with Vallavarayan, Nandini, and the wise men trying to save Arunmozhi. The plot moves forward with Aditya Karikalan learning about the conspiracy and taking action. The situations between Aditya Karikalan and Nandini serve as the highlight of the movie. Their encounter in one incident is at another level. Nandini's desire to see the end of the Cholas and the ambitions of Pallavarayar to capture the kingdom are never boring. In conclusion, Ponniyin Selvan-2 is a visual treat that delivers stellar performances and an engaging story, making it another artistic masterpiece from Mani Ratnam. Trisha and Aishwarya Rai both dazzled in a frame that was so stunning, it felt like two eyes weren't enough to take it all in. After the film's opening, the decent screenplay gets somewhat slow at times, making the audience feel a bit restless. Even though it's in Mani Ratnam's style, one can't help but feel that a little more polish would have been better. The climax seems to have been wrapped up in a hurry, and the film could have connected more with the audience with a bit more focus. Performances In Ponniyin Selvan 2, Vikram showcases his versatility. Despite limited screen space in the first part, he steals the show in the sequel. Aishwarya Rai is another unforgettable character, shining even in a role with a negative shade. Jayam Ravi and Karthi breathed life into their characters. Many connected with Karthi's character Vallavarayan in the first part of Ponniyin Selvan, and audiences will continue their journey with this character in the sequel. Trisha, Sobhita Dhulipala, and Aishwarya Lakshmi performed admirably within the confines of their roles. Comparing the first part with the second, director Mani Ratnam made some improvements. The film was handled with a sense of balance. Despite the slow narration, the audience will undoubtedly be rooting for the hero. Overall, while the film could have used a bit more polish and focus, the talented ensemble cast and Mani Ratnam's signature touch make it an enjoyable experience for viewers. Technical Aspects One of the highlights of the film is its cinematography. Ravi Varman captivates the audience with his skillful work, bringing the director's vision to life with great finesse. The editing is also commendable. There is no need to mention the production values separately. The music for the film is a plus point. Although A.R. Rahman showcases his talent in this movie, there are moments when it feels like it could have been better. It's not completely disappointing, but it doesn't quite reach the level one would expect from Rahman. Strengths Story and narration Performances of the actors Cinematography Weaknesses Slow pacing Rating: 3.25/5

Review of "Rules Ranjan": A Mix of Highs and Lows
Review of "Rules Ranjan": A Mix of Highs and Lows
Cast and Crew: Starring: Kiran Abbavaram, Neha Shetty, Meher Chahal, and others Direction: Ratinam Krishna Producing Team: Divyana Lavanya & Murali Krishna Vemuri Music Composition: Amrish Cinematography: Dilip Kumar Kiran Abbavaram, although relatively fresh to Tollywood with merely 6 films under his belt, has carved a niche for himself, especially amongst the youth. He’s been labeled a safe bet for producers, assuring them against incurring losses. Kiran, after entertaining his audience with "Vinaro Bhagyamu Vishnu Katha" and "Meter" this year, now graces the silver screen with "Rules Ranjan". Let’s dive into the review and see how he and the sizable cast fared! Storyline: A Dive into Love and Rules Meet Mano Ranjan (played by Kiran Abbavaram), a software engineer bound by stringent rules in life. An unexpected job transfer hauls him to Mumbai, where he rekindles a friendship with Sana (Neha Shetty), an old friend. Gradually, love blossoms and Mano lets his rules slide, one by one, for Sana. But a twist unfolds as Sana discovers that her marriage has been fixed. What ensues? Does Mano secure his love? Or not? The movie unveils these intriguing aspects. Movie Pulse: A Gentle Flow with Unexpected Turns Despite its uncomplicated plot, the movie ensures a consistent comedy track. The initial half meanders at a slow pace until Vennela Kishore steps in, lacing the narrative with bursts of laughter through impeccable comic timing. While the first half juggles between a love track and comedy, the second half could have benefited from additional comedic elements. A few unnecessary cinematic elevations and certain dreary scenes may dampen the audience’s spirit, although Hyper Aadi, Viva Harsha, and Vennela Kishore’s comedic antics in the latter part infuse some entertainment. Performances: A Canvas of Skills and Entertainment Kiran Abbavaram brings something fresh to the table, shedding his previous monotone acting criticisms and immersing himself into Mano Ranjan’s character convincingly. Neha Shetty, not only adds a dash of glamour to the film but also impresses with her performance, especially shining through the song "Sammohanuda". The comedy ensemble, including Hyper Aadi and Vennela Kishore, brought hearty laughter, serving as assets to the film. The rest of the cast, including Viva Harsha, Makarand Deshpande, and Subbaraju, bring justice to their roles and add depth to the storyline. Directorial Lens: A Scope for Enhancement Ratinam Krishna, despite wielding a simple story, somewhat misses striking a lasting impression. An inkling persists that the vast cast could have been better leveraged and that the story would have benefited from added attention. The initial comedy track left audiences wanting its continuity in the latter half and fewer unneeded cinematic elevations. Technical Side From a technical standpoint, "Rules Ranjan" showcases commendable production values. Amrish’s music compositions weave melodious threads through the film, while Dilip Kumar’s cinematography may need further refinement. Strengths and Weaknesses: Pros: Initial Comedy Track Neha Shetty's Glamour Cons: Unnecessary Elevations Second Half Dynamics Wrap Up: A Glimpse of Laughter Amidst Lows In conclusion, "Rules Ranjan" does spark some chuckles here and there but hovers around being a moderate comedy entertainer. Rating: 2.5/5

Arya @ 20 Years: Celebrating Two Decades of the Film ‘Arya’ – Did You Know These Behind-The-Scenes Secrets?
Arya @ 20 Years: Celebrating Two Decades of the Film ‘Arya’ – Did You Know These Behind-The-Scenes Secrets?
Directed by Sukumar, with Allu Arjun in the lead role, ‘Arya’ shook the film industry upon its release. Premiering with a unique concept of one-sided love, the movie initially received mixed reviews but soon rallied to create a box office tsunami. Exhibited in many theaters for over 125 days, it garnered critical acclaim. Released on May 7, 2004, today marks exactly 20 years since its debut. On this anniversary, let's delve into some behind-the-scenes secrets of Arya. Sukumar's Chance Post 'Dil' Success Sukumar, who worked as an assistant director for the film 'Dil' starring Nitin, pitched the story of ‘Arya’ to producer Dil Raju during that period. Impressed, Raju promised Sukumar a directing opportunity if 'Dil' succeeded, advising him to ready the complete story in the meantime. Following the blockbuster success of ‘Dil’, Sukumar was given the green light to direct what would become ‘Arya’. Allari Naresh's Missed Opportunity Initially, Allari Naresh was considered for the lead role in 'Arya', and Sukumar had even tailored the script with him in mind. However, due to certain reasons, the script never reached him. Naresh shared in an interview that during the making of ‘100% Love’, Sukumar told him, “Your acting in ‘Allari’ captivated me, and I had written ‘Arya’ for you.” Despite this, the role was destined for another, and Naresh remarked, “No one could have performed better than Allu Arjun as Arya.” https://twitter.com/i/status/1787548147520061468 Finalizing Bunny for the Role! After finalizing the script for ‘Arya’, there was some uncertainty about who should play the lead. During this search, a special screening of 'Dil' was held, which Allu Arjun attended. His sharp wit and comedic timing convinced the producers that he was the perfect fit for the story. Following conversations with Arjun post the screening, and his impressive performances post 'Gangotri', he was chosen as the lead, much to the satisfaction of everyone involved, including Chiranjeevi and Allu Aravind. Star Director’s Role as an Assistant Srikanth Addala, known for directing hit films like 'Kotha Bangaru Lokam', 'Mukunda', and 'Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu', served as an assistant director on ‘Arya’. He even made a cameo appearance in one of the scenes. Initially, there was some confusion about the film's title. The team considered various options before finally deciding to name the film after Bunny’s character. https://twitter.com/i/status/1787674074585714980 Rapid Completion of the Shoot The shooting of ‘Arya’ was completed swiftly over 120 days, starting on November 19, 2003. This was the first collaboration between Sukumar and music director Devi Sri Prasad, whose soundtrack became a massive hit, especially the song ‘Aa Ante Amalapuram,’ which became immensely popular across diverse audiences. Arya's Impact on Stardom The success of ‘Arya’ was a significant milestone in the careers of director Sukumar, actor Allu Arjun, producer Dil Raju, music director Devi Sri Prasad, and cinematographer Rathnavelu, transforming their lives and careers. As the film completes 20 years, Allu Arjun reflected on the impact of ‘Arya’ on his life, expressing eternal gratitude for the role that changed his trajectory.

Telugu Films which remind us of the Ramayana.
Telugu Films which remind us of the Ramayana.
Valmiki's monumental saga, the Ramayana, has inspired countless films to great acclaim. Continuing this legacy, the recent movie 'Adipurush was made to show the greatness of Ramyana to current generation. Additionally, there are Telugu films that, though not directly showcasing Ramayana's characters, subtly weave its narrative through commercial storytelling. These cinematic works aren't overtly linked to the Ramayana at first glance, requiring a deeper analysis to uncover their connections. YouSay highlights these films, exploring the embedded Ramayana influences within them. Dasara In the recent film 'Dasara' starring hero Nani, the Ramayana's influence is apparent, especially in the portrayal of villain characters reminiscent of Ravana. The villain, who sets his sights on the heroine, schemes to make her his own. Ultimately, the hero defeats him and restores peace to his wife and village. RRR In 'RRR', if one observes Jr NTR's character, it's hard not to be reminded of Hanuman. Tarak embarks on a journey to Hastinapur to find a girl taken away by the British, much like Ravana's palace. He infiltrates a British mansion and instills courage in the captive girls, eventually reuniting the girl with her parents, mirroring how Hanuman reunited Sita with Rama. Varsham Directed by Shobhan and starring Prabhas and Trisha, 'Varsham' also echoes the Ramayana. As the hero and heroine deeply fall in love, a villain (Gopichand) enters the scene, desiring Trisha for himself. Prabhas eventually defeats him and wins his love back, reminiscent of Rama's victory over Ravana, who coveted Sita. Varudu Directed by Gunasekhar and released in 2010, 'Varudu' stars Allu Arjun and Bhanu Sri Mehra, with Tamil actor Arya playing the antagonist. The story unfolds with the hero and heroine's engagement, during which the heroine is kidnapped right from the wedding altar by the villain. The hero locates and defeats the villain to reclaim his bride, reflecting the storyline of the Ramayana. Okkadu Directed by Gunasekhar, the blockbuster 'Okkadu' stars Mahesh Babu and Bhumika. The villain (Prakash Raj), enamored with the heroine, attempts to kill her family and marry her. Bhumika escapes and encounters the hero, leading to love between them. The hero ultimately defeats the villain to secure his love, mirroring the narrative of Ravana coveting Sita and Rama defeating him. Raavanan Directed by Mani Ratnam, 'Ravanan' stars Vikram, Aishwarya Rai, and Prithviraj. The film modernizes the Ramayana, highlighting Ravana's perspective. SP Dev (Prithvi), resembling Rama, searches for his wife Aishwarya Rai, kidnapped by Vikram to the Nallamala forest, with a constable (Karthik) assisting him, akin to Hanuman's role. Sainikudu Starring Mahesh and Trisha, 'Sainikudu' presents a narrative somewhat opposite to the Ramayana. The heroine, believing the villain to be good, agrees to marry him. However, upon discovering his true nature, Trisha falls for Mahesh Babu. The hero defeats the villain, who attempts to forcefully marry Trisha, and claims his love. Robo Directed by Shankar, 'Robo' stars Rajinikanth and Aishwarya Rai. Scientist Vaseegaran creates a robot, Chitti, capable of human emotions, which falls in love with the heroine and abducts her. The hero ultimately deactivates the robot and wins back his love, reflecting the Ramayana's essence. Adipurush Last year's 'Adipurush', starring Prabhas and Kriti Sanon, is based on the Ramayana's war chapter. Despite harsh criticism, director Om Raut defended the film as a modern interpretation of the Ramayana suited for today's youth. Seeta Ramula Kalyanam Lankalo Starring Nitin and Hansika, 'Seeta Ramula Kalyanam Lankalo' directly evokes the Ramayana's narrative. The college-going hero and heroine fall in love, but family feuds involving the villain, reminiscent of Ravana, complicate their relationship. The hero, disguised, infiltrates the villain's stronghold, like Lanka, deceives the villains, and triumphs in love.

On its opening day, this sensation amassed an unbelievable net collection of Rs. 75 crores across all languages in India. If you're keeping track, that's the highest opening-day net collection any movie has seen so far. Before 'Jawan' started breaking records, 'Pathan' held a record with Rs.55 crores, 'KGF 2' with Rs. 54 crores, and 'Bahubali'? A respectable Rs. 41 crores. And here's the cherry on top: globally, 'Jawan' made a jaw-dropping Rs. 125 crores on its debut. Released around Krishnashtami (how timely!), 'Jawan' has already become a blockbuster. And given the buzz around Shahrukh, trade insiders are placing their bets on this one breaking even more records. If we're talking opening-day gross numbers, the grapevine suggests 'Jawan' might have garnered up to Rs. 150 crores globally, but we're all waiting for the official word from the film crew. Now, if you're like me and love rankings, here's a treat for you! With a first-day worldwide collection of Rs. 214.5 crores, it sat comfortably on the throne for a good five years before 'RRR' came into the picture. KGF 2 (2022) Directed by the talented Prashanth Neel and spotlighting Yash as the hero, 'KGF 2' shattered many a record. It bagged a cool Rs.164.5 crores on the very first day, making southern cinema really proud. Saaho (2019) Prabhas's 'Saaho', where he was paired with the lovely Shraddha Kapoor, made a splash by collecting over Rs 100 crores (Rs. 125.6 crores to be precise) on its debut day. Robot 2.0 (2018) Tamil cinema's megastar, Rajinikanth's 'Robo 2.0', sealed its spot with Rs. 105.6 crores on day one. But it couldn't keep the momentum, sadly. Did we mention Akshay Kumar played the antagonist here? Pathan (2023) Earlier this year, Shahrukh Khan's 'Pathan' raked in a commendable Rs 104.8 crore on its first day. It was a breath of fresh air for Shahrukh and his fans, especially with 'Jawan' further cementing his place. The Jailer (2023) Another one from Rajinikanth, 'Jailer' clocked in Rs.91.2 crore globally on its debut. Interestingly, it's the first Tamil film to reach such heights. Overall? A mind-boggling collection of over Rs.650 crores. Plus, it's rocking the OTT space! Kabali (2016) 'Kabali' might have had a rocky performance but started strong, making Rs.90.5 crore on its opening day. Before 'Jailer', 'Kabali' was Rajinikanth's crowning jewel.
