Bollywood actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Tamil actor Arya, and Baby Sara play key roles in this movie. Shraddha Srinath stars alongside Venkatesh. The teaser, trailers, and songs have already heightened expectations for the film. Released today (January 13) as a Sankranti gift, let’s see how the film fares. Does it impress the audience? Is it another hit in Venkatesh’s career? Let’s find out.
Story
Saindhav (Venkatesh) lives in a village named Chandraprastha with his daughter (Baby Sara). One day, when his daughter suddenly collapses, she is rushed to the hospital and is diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. At the same time, a terrorist camp is active in Chandraprastha. Saindhav confronts the terrorist activities. What is Saindhav’s connection to the terrorists? What did he do in the past? How does he save his daughter? What is the significance of the roles played by Vikas Malik (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) and Arya? The rest of the story unfolds these mysteries.
Performance
Venkatesh, as Saindhav, delivers a remarkable performance. He impresses in emotional and action scenes, especially showcasing his prowess in action sequences. Shraddha Srinath, as Saindhav’s daughter, captivates the audience. Bollywood actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui excels in his villainous role. Andrea, as his assistant and a female villain, also impresses. Tamil actor Arya delivers a decent performance. Srinu, as Shraddha Srinath’s ex-husband, brings a comedic element to his otherwise serious role.
Progression
The story of Saindhav follows a familiar narrative seen in many films: when a hero, living a peaceful life away from his past, faces a problem, figures from his past reemerge. The first half revolves around the love between Saindhav and his daughter, the revelation of her illness, conflicts regarding containers, and Saindhav’s return. The second half is full of action, focusing on the troubles the villain causes Saindhav and how he overcomes them. The last twenty minutes blend emotional scenes with stylish action sequences.
Direction
Director Sailesh Kolanu picks a rather routine story for ‘Saindhav.’ Throughout the movie, there’s a sense of déjà vu, as if revisiting scenes from Kamal Haasan’s ‘Vikram’ or Rajinikanth’s ‘Jailer.’ The focus seems more on the characters of Venkatesh and Nawazuddin than on the story or narrative. Even with star actors like Arya, Mukesh Rushi, and Ruhani Sharma, their roles feel routine under the director’s vision. The lack of connection between scenes makes it difficult for the audience to engage with the story. However, the director excels in action scenes, showcasing Venkatesh’s prowess impressively. Overall, the movie appeals to action fans. Putting aside logic and story, Saindhav manages to entertain.
Technical Aspects
Speaking of technicalities, Santhosh Narayanan’s background music is commendable. The music especially touches the heart in emotional scenes and the song ‘Bujjikondave.’ Manikandan’s cinematography is stylish, presenting Venkatesh in a suave manner. The village of Chandraprastha, sea locations, and ports are beautifully captured. The production values are high.
