The passing away of Lata Mangeshkar, who was no less than the voice of the nation has seen an outpouring of tributes from people hailing from all walks of life, including from the Indian film industry of which she was part. Among those who hailed her immense contributions to not just the movie industry, but to the everyday life of every Indian were major movie stars like Jr. NTR, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Chiranjeevi, Mohan Lal, and a host of other mega-celebrities from the movie world.
Pushpa Star Allu Arjun tweeted, “It’s a sad day. End of an era as the nightingale of India #LataMangeshkar Ji is no more. Jr. NTR in his tweet mentioned that he was, “Deeply saddened by the passing of Lata Ji.” Mohanlal’s tweet read, “Deeply saddened to hear about the passing of the musical phenomenon, Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar” According to Chiranjeevi, the late singing maestro lived “an extraordinary life.” Rajmouli the Bahubali maker too paid his “heartfelt tribute to the nightingale of India Lata Mangeshkar.”
Colleagues from the Mumbai film industry who paid their last respects at her funeral include Shahrukh Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Javed Akhtar, Madhur Bhandarkar, Shraddha Kapoor, Siddarth Roy Kapoor, and the late singer’s legendary sister Asha Bhosle. The fact that the whole of the nation and indeed the far corners of the globe where Indians reside felt immensely saddened by the passing away of a singer whose songs are a part of their everyday life is a testimony of her all-pervading influence on them.
Indeed, performing artists like her who become part of the consciousness of the nation to the extent that they achieve almost divine status come along once in a century. Truly, there won’t be another one like her.
