The number of accidents and deaths on the roads is rapidly increasing as the number of vehicles on the road expands. To combat fatal road accidents, India’s transport ministry recently took drastic measures.
Apart from imposing severe fines for violations of traffic rules as directed by the court, insurance claims have also been modified, and the new rules will be enforced by insurance companies as well as transportation departments beginning April 1, 2022.
The following errors, according to the new guidelines, will prevent you from filing insurance claims or receiving insurance benefits:
Overloading
If the number of passengers travelling by car, two-wheeler, or motorcycle exceeds the permitted limit, no insurance coverage will be available.
Riding without wearing a helmet
Riding a motorcycle without wearing a helmet is illegal. People who ride two-wheelers without wearing helmets will not be covered by insurance.
Driving on the wrong side of the road
People driving on the wrong side of the road will not receive any compensation. Also, no case will be filed after an accident against those driving on the correct side of the road.
Furthermore, if an accident occurs as a result of others driving on the wrong side of the road, an amount of up to Rs 20 lakh would be collected from the violators of traffic regulations to compensate individuals on the correct side of the road. If the money could not be recovered even by selling the violators’ assets, the violators might face up to 14 years in prison.
Drunk and Drive
Drunk drivers will not be covered by insurance or compensated for any of their losses in an accident.
Talking on the phone
Talking on the phone while driving is prohibited. The same punishment will be applicable even if he/she is wearing a helmet, driving on the correct side, and/or driving without consuming alcohol.
Overspeed
All of the penalties will apply to fast-driving vehicles that exceed the speed restrictions, just like they do to people who talk on their phones while driving.
Inaction is punishable.
If a police officer declines to take action against those who break traffic laws, he or she will be suspended from the service for three years.
Not using a seatbelt
A person who drives without wearing a seat belt will not be compensated for any of the insurance claims.
So, readers, please obey the traffic laws, remember the new insurance claim policies, and pass this along to your friends and family. Drive Safe and Be Safe.
